They'll gladly pay sony whatever they want. Some guy on here legit said, 7th gen comp made Sony remove the PS2 backwards compat, Linux, and other feautres to make the PS3 cheaper. So therefore, no comp would have been better. Too far gone. Gamers get the industry they deserve.

Does it matter? A decade ago you couldn't play Forza Motorsport 6 on PC either. Or Halo 5. A rare miss here and there didn't change the "everything is on PC" talk. It was all about the writing on the wall. A PC port, late or not, was expected around 2015, and the concern and trolling were constant because of that.
And today the same goes for Sony's games.

Even if all parts would be available, with RAM and GPU prices going rampant I don't think people will build their own Xbox Magnus to satisfaction without paying a lot more. I've seen DF try to build PCs for console budget and they're always a bit fat compromise.
There are games with presets for the Deck but that's an area where I'm hoping Valve will step in to improve things on Steam Machine.
I had a docked Steam Deck as my first living room PC. It was essentially a console. Superb user experience,
But it was too weak for modern games. And modding through Linux was a speedbump too much for me personally.
Seems like the same people start a lot of anti-Xbox threads

Both titles were 2015 xbox one games. That is when the strategy changed. Anything post 2015 they released on PC. Yeah, it matters because that's what I'm referring to. we're talking about the people perpetuating this talk now. The exact specific people only. The people who were giddy and endorsing the even more redundant Series X with power king memes and saying how awesome it is just a few years ago. who have changed their tune and are now berating the "redundancy" of a console which is still getting games that aren't releasing on PC.

Not totally wrong OP. This Black Friday I looked for series S deals for under $300. They do not exist and this console doesn't deserve more than $270 this late in the console gen plus the current state of Xbox overall. I just wanted a NG1&2 machine…

is right. What happened was that Sony was selling PS3 hardware at a massive loss. They aimed to recoup this loss by selling a certain amount of games to users. This didn't pan out because xbox 360 took away a lot of third party sales from the system and it became increasingly difficult to recoup costs. They were forced to cut costs on the hardware to "compete" and suffered losses throughout the gen which would have been worse had they not cut back. Their own fuck up for expecting no competition but what

Scrap the itty bitty details and the general consensus is the same:
* 10 years ago Xbox fans in general didn't like that PC ports of Xbox games were coming. PS fans in general applauded the change.
* Today PS fans in general don't like that PC ports of PS games are coming out. Xbox fans in general are applauding the change.
* MS started with games exclusive or timed to their own launcher. Steam versions arrived later.
* Sony started out with Steam. Their own launcher with exclusives or timed could arrive later.
* MS started out with paid online. It's rumored to be free next.
* Sony started out with free online. It's paid now.
You don't see it? Even if it's wobbly when you look close the circle is full. There are differences but it's mostly comical at this point.
And we haven't seen a new title in the Gran Turismo IP since GT7 to verify the strategies. But we can see that, Spider-Man, Last of Us, Horizon, Uncharted etc are on PC. Pretty sure we can add GT to the list soon, if that is through GT8 or GTSports 2 then so be it, same thing.
They did? Which ones? can you give examples? I can find numerous that were stanning for xbox post 2016 up until xbox practically gave up on consoles recently which quickly changed their tune. Xbox fans were not generally upset. I'm not sure where you're getting that from. Especially when they were still endorsing xbox with ALL of their games coming to PC day one. Now they find it difficult to endorse PS when it's getting all the games + the PS exclusives (timed or otherwise)
There were certainly people who had an xbox to play xbox games before that might have simply moved on but those aren't the specific fans I'm referring to.
Not sure I agree with that some PS fans dislike it but xbox fans are not applauding it. They're trying really hard to use it as console war ammo. Ammo they weren't using against xbox for a literal decade.

I'm saying the xbox fans shouting out "redundant console" for a console that is getting exclusives even today is stupid when they were hyping up the most redundant console of all not long ago, that console being the xbox series. Xbox has been more redundant for a decade already but they hyped that up until the wheels fell off only recently, then they could no longer pretend so they made "consoles redundant". The initial reaction among regular fans was the same though, it was a general concern for the purpose of the console and sometimes a sense of having wasted money on hardware no longer needed. Even though exclusives still existed, as pointed out, and the same goes for PS5 now, but "everything is on PC"…
Go back and search the early port threads in 2015 and compare with the first ones from Sony if you want. Small differences aren't important as I see it. The threads were there with roughly the same talk. Same, but different.
Next up. Launcher war! We already see it through Xbox App and Play Anywhere and SteamOS and eventually with Sony IF their own launcher appears with some bonus features.
I was around that time and I remember only a handful of people saying that there was little reason to own xbox, among them people like demigod who I wouldn't categorise as an xbox fan even if he owned one before. It's difficult to catagorise an xbox user from an "xbox fan" except the very obvious ones, and I'm not sure I can say in general those obvious people were concerned much. I was once an xbox user too and left with Quantum Break release.
The actual "xbox fans" I'm referring to were the type of people suggesting that it was an awesome move and one that only MS could make because "they own windows" and how "they're winning either way even if you go to windows store!".

the normal people post 2016 who simply said either "well I don't care either way I'm sticking with console" or "I'm going PC and didn't buy a Series X/S" are not who I have an issue with in this thread.
It's those who very recently hyped xbox, went out and bought series x, (knowing every single xbox game is on PC day one since 2016) and now, all of a sudden, are pretending that another console (which still has exclusives, timed and permanent) is pointless because their platform died. only when xbox collapsed not when they bought that pointless SX/S. From my perspective nothing of the constant concern/trolling over consoles makes sense. It'll be even worse going forward since it's clear that everything is moving over to PC in one way or another, unless Sony simply pull out. And PC gaming, and Steam in particular, is moving very focused into the living room now. At some point people will question what makes consoles so special that skipping everything else makes sense.
I honestly think with ram prices high I think things will get pushed back. We probably won't see the Magnus for another two years so hopefully by that time prices have cooled off a bit. Yea and modding through Linux seems like a pain in the ass compared to windows a big reason why I'm not on the Linux wave and still on Windows 10.

What Magnus will have over Steam Machine is essentially more convenient multi launcher capabilities. Power is said to be better too but if DF is needed to show that Magnus is better then they could just pack it up right now, it needs to be far far ahead.
Best case scenario would've been to have the console out by the time GTA6 arrives… Running a highly boosted Series X version.
But that's not happening.
Second best scenario would be to have it launching with Gears of War E-Day, Forza Horizon 6 and Fable, with Halo Campaign Evolved out during the launch window and The Elder Scrolls 6 unveiled during launch PR and out within the first year. Everything needs to be best of the best on performance and visuals for the living room, nothing should surpass it unless you have a beastly PC.
Could that happen? Sure. But is it likely? Nah.
I personally dont think consoles by PlayStation and Nintendo require any kind of concern/trolling now or in the future. I'm not sure what skipping everything else means because there isn't many things skipping the console either. You have to realise that PS is getting previously exclusive PC games now too. Flight sim, gears, halo, etc. It's begun to get some of those day one now even, while retaining some exclusive releases too (some permanent some timed). When I think of games that didn't come to my PS5 or Switch within the past year or so it's usually popular early access stuff like R.E.P.O that I can think of, then when I think of games that didn't come to my PC but come to my switch or PS it's games like
Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Mario Party,
Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Astrobot, etc. I'm sure there are plenty more titles I don't pay attention to for PC only but I think the things console only users are "skipping" in comparison is being overblown. All while PS is getting the benefit of previous big PC titles like Forza Horizon and Flight Sim it didn't have before. The console is seeing more of a benefit imo but that may not be the case for people who value games like R.E.P.O etc.

As long as Sony provides hardware that's cheaper than a pc they will be fine. You act like steam moving in the living like it's some game changer no the fuck it isn't. Ain't nobody going to give flying fuck about that pc disguised as a console it ain't the steam deck where its a portable and on the go. Besides console style pcs are nothing new matter of fact I had one of the first ones the Alienware x51 and it didn't do shit in the pc landscape when it came out. Like some of you don't realize how niche these things will be. Sony and Nintendo dominate the tv when it comes to gaming besides when it comes to pc and tv you always have the option putting a laptop, portable or desks top to the tv anyway If it's really that important. Sony will always have its place as long as they don't go too crazy with the price and continue to bring game changing first party games to the platform.

Why do people choose a console over a PC today? Only because they're cheaper? I don't think so. I think it's about having something fairly small and silent in the living room that you just power on and game on without worrying about anything else. And that's exactly how they'll market Steam Machine.
It may stumble on power but I think it'll open people's eyes on PC gaming in the living room.
We can't predict how that'll affect things. The old arguments against PC - "don't want to sit by a computer at home when I've done it all day at work", "I don't want to use mouse and keyboard", "I just want to sit in the living room", "too much problems with drivers", "I don't want an ugly bulky noisy PC in the living room", etc - that's all going away. SM is highly focused on what it's supposed to do compared to just plugging a Windows PC to the TV.
Xbox Magnus vs Steam Machine will start it's own war so neither will pop up unnoticed on the market, people will definitely know that this product segment exists. How big that segment becomes is impossible to say though.

In a year or lifetime? If lifetime then Xbox + "Steam machines attempt 2" would hit that easy. That's only 7.5M between them. I'm sceptical that Steam machine will hit anything close to that despite getting the most hype being spread by PC/Steam loyalists (remember steamdeck is likely lower than 9M right now) but xbox still has a lot of diehard fans that will buy the next iteration. They would have had to lose more than a 2/3 of their base to do less than 10M lifetime. I'm not sure that they have despite what has been happening.

Which I disagree with this at the end of the day it's a PC. There's no special triple A exclusives on it that can't be played on a PS5. Besides a few big games like Battlefield, Fortnite and GTA online you can't even play because of anti-cheat. All these arguments you say that discourage people from going on PC these people are already comfortable on console and have already developed an ecosystem on it. The PS5 is cheaper and can play more triple A games on it with less hassle. Plus like I said before the people who really care about PCs already have desktops and gaming laptops there's so many variables to pc that I don't see steam machine eating anything in the console space. Steam deck came out and all the rest of these pc portables and switch 2 has already passed there lifetime sales so far. Same thing will happen with this.

Good thing MS is having third party OEMs build Xbox PCs and Consoles as well, in addition to first party consoles. But if some1 still has an issue with the Xbox logo, they have other issues.

You see the PS5 reveal with Spiderman Mike's Morales, Sackboy, Demons Souls, Returnal, FFXVI, Ratchet and Clank, Death loop and Jena all exclusive and compare it to the Xbox one, wich I don't even remember but probably was something with Craig, multigen Forza and Spencer with a big belly saying this is the year or Gen of Xbox and it was clear who was gonna wipe the floor with who.
They have had big problems with the price but like everybody else, it's just a industry a worldwide, issue.
And in terms of FP output, they are on par with the PS4 Gen. They are badmouthed because some were intergen and the ports to PC, but it's not like they haven't released onpar with the 5 first year of the PS4 Gen.
They have provided great accesories, developed PSN+ even further etc. The console itself is super slick, silent, cold and reliable.
All in all a good generation for them, but they are now the target for most of the haters (specially those whose platform is tanking or dreaming to take over) speech because on the exclusivity of games.
Now haters have to make up their goddam mind. They say exclusives are the worst yet at the same time say Sony is done for because temporal exclusives and no games, and when, they release games they say that doesn't matter because multi with PC in some years, at the same time everything just bought by MS is Xbox output and not being exclusive at all even fir one second is great and everything is fine and Xbox deserves better. Who can understand that?

I'm not ignorant to the idea that alot of things coming out now I'm out of touch with( and that applies to MS and Nintendo too, so that's a me thing) and that its my own subjective viewpoint based on how I've interacted with their platform over 30 years. I'm not so arrogant as to think these companies will always cater to my specific tastes, I'm no longer the target demographic. So if PS5 has been a great gen for someone else, genuinely great for them. Its not something I need to contest.

I didn't mean to be harsh, but it's a bit tiring this narrative of worst Gen ever etc, carried mostly by Xbox fans who want to wrap it up BTW, and something by PC fans who think they can say worst Gen ever but PC having same games it's doing great.
Of course some things were different back in the PS2 or even PS4 gens. Games were impossible to run on older hardware, cheaper to make, you had 3 Uncharted in 5 years, exclusive third party was more feasible to achieve, hardware was cheaper... But world and industry is like it is right now, it's no use to claim for things to be like in PS1 or PS2 days. In current industry Sony is doing as good as feasible, good machine, deals often with discount, good accesories, good games that are some of them cross eGen ported because game economics rtc
Besides many people have very bad memory. Most of Sony PS1 titles were published by but external developer (Alumdra, Tombi, Ark the Lad, Wild Arms, Crash Bandicoot), same with PS2 except Naughty had been bought, the great third party exclusives that created the massive success of the PS2 as MGS2 and 3, GTA 3 and San Andreas, FFX and XI were temporal exclusives, PS2 didn't have many PC ports, PS2 version of games as RE4 or Outrun 2006 was weaker than Cube/Xbox, lots of piracy etc. I only can think what those people who badmouth PS5 and speak about the PS2 Gen as the true Golden Age would say if PS5 had those weaknesses back then

Ok. Well in addition to saying that I recognize that alot of my sentiments on modern gaming is the industry moving past me( and I'm good with it), I also didn't say it was the worst gen ever. Didn't even hint at it. I understand your sentiments but your frustration is being aimed at my post because you're taking 'I don't think this has been a great first party gen for Sony' and lumping it in with whatever frustrations you have with other posters saying the things you're actually annoyed with. Hell at the end of my post I said Xbox's issues are mostly a function of their own choices than industry issues because Sony and Nintendo to this point have largely been able to work around them.
In all honesty I'm more into PC now so I don't even think of things with the same stringent 'generations' mindset I did when I was more into the consoles. I play both Playstation and Xbox shit on there, Nintendo too( wink wink).
I mean I have a PS5 and it tends to all blur between my PS4 content and native PS5 so I dont especially care about laundry lists of games from the past 5 years and what different people think of the quality of this gen vs past ones. Its all gaming to me nowadays and I find joy wherever I can, in both past and current content across the industry.

It's a sum of all things scenario. I think it will attract small groups of people from all sides. It'll have games from Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, emulators, likely Switch through emulation, modding capabilities, free online, a silent fairly small and welldesigned PC, controller focused UI, console-like system and drivers updates, mouse pointer it needed, access to VR.

People already have desktops and laptops that can already do all what you listed. Emulators, Modding etc are things casuals don't care about. Like I get maybe people who are already pc players wanting something more simple for the tv but I'm talking casuals. I'm not saying no one would buy this but let's not get carried away and act like this is a threat to PlayStation cuz that it is not. Regardless of free online or not free online on pc has been around for forever and PlayStation is still killing it. This thing will be closer to a 1000 dollars more than it will be closer to 500.
Now if this is priced lower than a PS5 then yes it could possibly be a threat.
