You know, the film could be a guilty pleasure for all those fighter jets and dog-fight suckers. On the other hand, as a sequel to a Tony Scott film of the '80s, arriving decades later, idk, people should proceed with caution - they shouldn't allow themselves to grow high expectations.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the "testosterone laden ode to toxic Masculinity" counter punch because I don't see how you make a Top Gun film in the style of the first one and no one makes that comment today.

Conversely, you couldn't make a movie with all the modern sensibilities and not have some one call it a SJW woke fest either.

Though of anyone can walk that tightrope suspended over the flaming pits of hell, it's the Cruise missile :p

Just enjoy a movie for what it is. Who cares what people think of it.

Remember all those early glowing reviews of the new matrix movie and look what garbage that was.

Im sure this will be better sequel than that nonsense but then i don't expect it to live up to the first movie either.

I just want a good old fashioned testosterone fueled action movie where the men are alphas and the women are eye candy. Cinema is meant to be escapism!

Pretty sure in the original movie the intention was the men were eye candy and the lead woman was alpha.

For me I just hope they operate somewhat within the restraints the original movie had when it came to action and don't go overboard with the freedom CGI will have given them.

Rain Man, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, Days of Thunder, Interview with a Vampire...

Legend, Edge of Tomorrow, A few good Men, Top Gun. He's been in more good movies than 99 percent of actors.

Additionally ...

Tropic Thunder, Mission Impossible, The Last Samurai, Born on the Fourth of July, Collateral, Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Jerry Maguire ...

His total filmography is bonkers

And Vanilla Sky.

I love that movie and feel it's very underrated.

But considering that they can't even do Jack Ryan/John Clark justice, I wouldn't bet on it.

o/t: but considering that we mentioned the "Clancyverse"....

from IGN
While Jack Ryan is on its way out, Amazon is said to be eyeing a potential spinoff series headlined by Michael Peña who will reportedly star as Domingo "Ding" Chavez, a major character from the Tom Clancy literacy universe, having appeared in 22 novels. His character will be introduced in Jack Ryan Season 3 before he takes a more significant role in Season 4.

It sounds like the next two seasons of the flagship series will help to set the stage for Peña's character to potentially get his own independent series, though the spinoff is only believed to be in the very early stages of development right now, with very few details firmed up at this stage as the focus remains on wrapping up Jack Ryan with Season 3 and Season 4.

Michael Pena as Ding? Uhhh, not sure I see it. I guess they can't really introduce Clarke since they sorta kinda have an alternate Clarke but Ding without Clarke seems....like butter without the peanuts.

I was kinda hoping we would see Patriot Games and Hunt for Red October adapted to the Jack Ryan show, personally.

But maybe we will get Rainbow Six with Ding if they aren't gonna do it with Michael B. Jordans Clarke, and keep the ecoterrorism plot!

My bet is that they will make a "cameo" for Jordan in the series just as a bridge and the R6 movie probably will come after Jack S4. Maybe they will abandon the entire Ding/Clarke daughter thing (and even the Pres. Ryan) because that implies in a way older Clarke and Jack in relation to Ding.

And all of that considering that they are all in the same universe...

Yeah for real. This finally feels like the long nightmare of capeshit that prevented me from stepping foot into a movie theater for over 10 years has finally come to an end and we are returning to actual good action movies again.
I can't agree there haven't been any good movies in 10 years. But I can definitely say I am more excited for this than I have been for any movie in a really long time.

The Running Man. Escapism for the viewer...and the contestants!

I've been wanting a more faithful adaptation of this book for years (minus maybe the plane crash ending perhaps). The recent Most Dangerous Game film is probably more Running Man than MDG and while it wasn't a particularly good film, it does show the potential in an urban "escape and evade" scenario.

Have they done a reality show type version of this yet? There have been so many, it seems like a natural thing for some hack network to do and get the viewers in on reporting the "runners" if they see them.

I think the closest we've seen was the U.K., and follow-up American adaptation, of Gladiators. Although Gladiators/American Gladiators was more Nerf-like fun rather than "Run for yer life!"

Considering what people have done regarding Vines/TikTok challenges (for clicks/likes/ad revenue) are we that far away from some network/municipality (likelyh an American one) formally introduce a Running Man show?

If there was a subscription fee, I'd buy that for a dollar.

TOPIC EDIT:
I gave Ghostbusters Afterlife a chance and walked out just, slightly dissatisfied. I figure Maverick has been put together with less cribbing from the original for nostalgia sake. Looking forward to a viewing next week.

Just saw it.

INCREDIBLE!

I cannot even remember the last time I walked out of the cinema so deeply satisfied.

From the first second to the last, the movie is ace.

Watch the first one before you see this!

Legend, the 1985 fantasy movie and I think it was Tom Cruise's first movie actually as well.

That was such a great movie from my childhood.

Edit: Endless Love was actually his first movie.

I have tickets for me and the family to see on Sunday night. This, along with the MI:7 trailer have me excited for action movies that I have not felt in a while!

In comparison, the Thor trailer that dropped earlier this week looks utterly weightless and goofy. I know the movie will be great, but fatigue is setting in on the cape shit for me as well.

Just managed to see a sneak peak of this film from my buddy who works at the local Vue.
Anyway yeah the film is freaking awesome. The areal flying shots are honestly like nothing you will of ever seen before, and are edge of your seat shit.
The actual plot is also IMO more interesting than the first film. I do like though how they managed to keep the '80's feel' the first film had while also the film not feeling dated, if that makes sense. It has that 80's style the first film had in droves, but also feels upto date and current.
The only thing i didnt like was the romantic angle between Tom and whats her face, it didnt have the same impact, or screen time, of Tom and Kelly. Everything else though is a step up from the first film, plot wise.
Another 'problem' i had was the lack of classic Top Gun music in the final battle. i mean the film has Top Gun classic playing through the film, but stuff like 'Danger Zone' playing in the final battle would of been ejaculating level. I suppose those battle shots are already so amazing that it didnt need it lol.

I havent been following box office expectations or anything for this film but i wouldnt be surprised at all if this made $100mil opening weekend in the US, its honestly that good. And i know outside of superhero movies, most films have been underperforming in this post Covid world, but i think this film is going to break that streak. It deserves to anyway.

Up there with the best ever cinema experiences i have ever had.
Unbelievable.

9/10
