Just want to thank Piccoro for some good matches today. I hope to play you again soon.

Wow thank YOU, Paul. I was very lucky to have run into you, it was the first time I played with a fellow GAFfer!
Your Ryu is awesome! One of the best uses of Assists I've ever seen. They kept Ryu very dangerous all the time.
As you saw, I'm still way too green trying to make Hulk/Morrigan/Haggar team work, but I learned a lot from you. Thanks for the matches.

I use to struggle a lot against hulk and I still do time to time. I just play real safe and smart against him. Just set Hulk players to my pace. As for Ryu, I'm a specialist and have taken a lot of time to work on him and really explore his Denjin mode. Right now I'm working on TAC stuff with Ryu. I hope to have some new tech by late May.
You seem to have a firm grasp of this game and I am curious to if you have a main team? I'm sure you beat scrubs up. I look forward to playing you again.

Anywho, today I am here for any info I can on playing Spider-Man. I'm very new with him and would love to get any and all info I can on him. His neutral is a huge weak point right now with me. Thank you in advance.

What assists are you trying to use and what position are you playing him?

In case you weren't foowing in the NCR thread over the weekend, I nearly beat Kbrad 3-1 in my loser's bracket pool. I goofed on the Frank Servbot hyper though, which ended up costing me the set. I wanted to do the shopping cart hyper to kill his final character after the Servbot hyper, did the motion too early and somehow did a DHC into Raccoon (Vergil was laying on the ground and Frank was standing up, I'm still confused how that happened) and Vergil popped out of it and KO'd both my characters.

I kept looking for you on the stream. Sad that you didn't get to show off. Were you using VJ/Frank/Ryu?

They told me that me and Kbrad would be on stream, but then they switched it at the last minute (they wanted to show Loser's Finals instead of semis). And no I didn't use Ryu. All the practicing I did on Thursday showed me that people still can't properly deal with Log Trap, so I decided to gut it out with Raccoon.

Ah, too bad. I like your Ryu anchor.

That sucks but at least you know you're good enough to hang with the top players.

I actually run him as mid, I use Ryu point then DHC into Spidey. Once I have Spidey point I have Tatsu to use after Spidey OTG's and then I have Shuma's Ray.
That could work out quite nicely for Spidey, though I don't like him at the middle position. Mystic Ray is fantastic for Spidey. In the neutral I'm usually normal jumping and shooting Web balls and zipping in behind them while calling Shuma assist. It should work out nicely with tatsu as well. Tatsu might also get you easy web throws.

It's kinda hard to explain Spidey. You just have to get in there and experiment. Just the most important thing to remember in my opinion is that you can web zip out of just about anything except launcher.

I don't know what system you're on but I have it for both, so if you ever wanna play I'm usually down.
lol you probably wouldn't learn anything new from my anchor Ryu.
You could teach him the Beef Special. J.S > overhead. I have no idea why that shit is so effective.

So messing more with Dante in casuals and finally started using the snapback stuff. It's pretty fun doing it and teleporting, and always throws people off. I need to learn more Dante resets...anybody with some resources?
But yeah, finally getting a hang of using Zero May Cry in offline matches without choking during combos.

Thanks. Yea, I'm in that phase that I can beat scrubs, but get destroyed by pros... :p I'll continue practicing for sure.

Other gaffers can help you with Spidey much better than I can. The only thing I know is that is assist moves are no good, so I see a lot of people using him on point. But I'm just a noob, lol :p

The Marvel thread finally reached a new page *faints*?

I decided to make a point Sentinel team, which would hopefully help me to play a Sentinel which isn't just an assist. Sentinel/Nova/Doom. Centurion Rush lets Sentinel extend combos, and Plasma Beam is good for zoning. The team also works just as well in any order. It's a pretty fun team.

Missiles or beam on Doom? Missiles with Sentinel point is pretty annoying but I'm sure Plasma beam is pretty good too, and has obvious great synergy with Nova. :p

Nova would not be my choice on that team. I would definitely rock Dante with Jam Session. It's probably Sentinel's best assist, up there with Double Lariat, Plasma Beam, and Akuma's Tatsu.

I prefer beam over missiles for Sentinel. I feel like missiles never quite hit when you need them do for him, and Plasma Beam is great at covering an approach. Sentinel kind of needs the help ASAP, whereas Morrigan doesn't. Also, Plasma Beam deals some great chip when combined with Sentinel's s.H.

When I play Doom/Sentinel/Dormammu, I use Hidden Missiles for Dormammu, and it's a constant pain when I am just down to Sentinel/Doom.

sentinel cr.M + nova assist on incoming is a ridiculously effective unblockable setup.

I have been picking beam. DiosX has shown some really effective zoning with Sentinel/Missiles but you probably have to be an ace pilot to keep Doom from being punished.

As for Nova, I wanted a decent character that would let Sentinel easily extend combos and he was the first one I thought of. Can you extend a combo with Jam Session -> Rocket Punch? The unblockable with Nova's assist is nice as well. Sentinel hits you for a long time with those legs.

I don't know if you can relaunch with Jam Session. You can with Dark Hole, and they have similar hitstun. You can break 800k for 1 bar without assists regardless.

You can't relaunch after an air combo with jam session, no. You CAN do it after a throw in the corner, though.

Jam session's best assist extension is,

blah blah air combo -> TK L RP -> Hard Drive, cM -> sS + Call Jam -> sjM, delay, sjS, land, L RP xx Dome.

Otherwise you're best off calling it right before RP xx Dome, or not calling it at all(because you want it for the incoming).

Alternatively, if you have your dante assist available, and haven't used your groundbounce via jS, you can do

TAC Up to Dante -> jMH xx Airplay, jM double jump jMHS, land, Volcano xx Beehive, Stinger+Call Drones xx BC Revolver, jump, skydance, beehive, Stinger xx BC Volcano xx Beehive xx Million Dollars xx Dome

to build a lot of meter and do very good two bar damage, but that's only if your sentinel is dry on meter, etc.

Truthfully, Jam is so good for Sentinel in the neutral, though, that more often than not you won't have it available as an extension because it'll have been used in the neutral leading up to the confirm.

Plasma Beam vs Missiles is a tough call for Sentinel, IMO. Missiles greatly aids his lame game, and Plasma Beam aids his aggressive game. Dios tends to use Missiles, IIRC, because he plays a very lame style sentinel. RayRay plays a very aggressive style Sentinel, and would definitely prefer Beam(or Disuptor, in similar usage from Magneto).

Can someone give me some tips on how to setup grapple resets better? I can't seem to get it after Stinger consistently.

My advice on how to learn grapple resets:

Do a wiff sH, then cancel it into BC Hysteric. This motion is difficult, because you have to combine the BC with the QCF in a small window(prejump frames for BC are 3 frames, IIRC?). You want to see Atk+S, and 236+H, in the input display, and you want to see Dante do sH xx Hysteric.

Once you can do THAT, you can do grapple resets. Just do the stinger wallbounce, wait a tiny bit, and do that same motion(minus the initial sH, of course), and you'll get your BC Hysteric. Press H again for Grapple.

Trying to combine the whole thing into one clump, instead of just trying to learn raw BC Hysteric, makes it more difficult IMO. Then you have to avoid crossups, accidental Jam Sessions, etc.

You can always do the extremely lazy man's grapple reset:
1. million carats
2. devil trigger
3. grapple
4. ???
5.
kappa?

They should just call this game: Doom + friends. Everyone online has taken to using Doom now.

Who needs to be good at the game when all you need is hidden missiles.

You need way more than Hidden Missiles. A bad Doom player will be pretty easily beaten by a good player of anyone else.

I don't use Doom, and Doom teams are severely crippled against me once their point character is dead.

All you need to be good in the game is Doom support and Vergil anchor.

Point character gets Plasma Beam or Missiles. If point character dies, sacrificed Doom for Vergil and go ham.

Other than against Morrigan and sometimes Magneto, I have no trouble sniping the shit out of Doom. I'm actually glad when I see missiles nowadays. That damn plasma beam and rocks cause me more trouble now.

Yeah missiles still break combos but at least I can cause Doom enough grief to not see him called recklessly if the player is smart. If he's dumb then that's a dead Doom.

I was playing some locals last night, and it was the first I've played the game since January, so I did worse than usual.

Aside from that, I was wondering what tools you guys think Frank has to deal with Doom, specifically?

I found myself in a lvl1 Frank vs Doom frequently, and it was infuriating because I felt like I couldn't really do anything, especially since I didn't have that meaty chainsaw M to be throw out to punish the tri-dashes.

The person usually plays Magneto/Doom/Vergil.

Kinda off-topic, I did play Third Strike for the first time last night. Fought an Alex for a good number of hours, tried out a bunch of characters, but I really stuck with Ibuki as her links were simple and 'dat qcf m punch dash attack. Parrying was so awesome, as well.

How I felt everytime I won:

You could always try raw launcher when Doom tridashes.

I found myself doing a lot of jump ms to swat them out of the way when they jumped up to do it, that seemed to work on getting them away, but then they'd call in Rapid Slash and start firing projectiles and I'd get zoned badly.

Launcher wouldn't leave me open too badly?

I don't play Frank really but I imagine it would be quite difficult as lvl 1 Frank since Doom can just zone you out and there's not a lot you can do about it. Might even be as bad as the Chris matchup against Doom. At least you can knee drop I suppose.

And fuck 3rd Strike.

Outside of Morrigan, Zero and Magneto (and Dorm, once he's established, I guess)- most point characters have a very hard time getting very many missiles calls (if you're looking to punish). I play Trish/Task/Doom as one of my teams, and until I get some momentum/pressure on my side, it's impossible to call missiles- 90% of my assist calls are Task because Trish has nothing fast enough to stop people from sniping Doom.

I don't use Doom, and Doom teams are severely crippled against me once their point character is dead.

What if their point character IS Dr. Doom :p

If Doom stays on the ground- you can throw zombies/orange juice bottles (will stuff plasma beam start-up a lot of the time since they're pretty quick) and wave dash in behind the zombies. If you have a decent projectile assist, Frank can win the ground projectile war generally. The Doom player will usually take to the air and fire photon shots to lame you out, but he has to come down eventually. If you can get kind of near him air-to-air, you can do plungers or try taking pictures.

Once you get level 2, you can stay on the ground and roll underneath him to fuck up his inputs. Doom should have a hard time doing any kind of legit tri-dash offense against you because crouching Frank is so god damn tiny- you low profile a lot of stuff, and it's almost impossible to dash cancel footdives against crouching Frank since you almost always make contact below the minimum airdash height threshold. You can anti-air with launcher, or try to preemtively jump back knee drop to stop Doom from going in on you. If they're playing Magneto/Doom/Vergil like you mentioned, it's honestly a pretty bad team for point Doom (no real lockdown assist to do any kind of scary rushdown). It's more of a Magneto team and a Vergil team, with Doom as pure support.

Point Doom doesn't really scare me. I feel like he has an uphill battle against Firebrand. The only things that really scare me in this game are Wolverine and Zero.

Just picked this game up on the cheap. First time playing an MvC game.

There's seriously no way to get the DLC? I can't borrow somebody's 360 account that has downloaded it and get it out of their history?

You can, but you need to have that account active on that xbox 360 to use it(So if you log on a different xbox, you can not used the DLC online, You can use the DLC offline if you use an account then disconnect(Meaning disable the wifi on it, so it doesn't auto connect) before you use it again, also take it with a grain of salt because not 100% sure if this works

lols ensued from that picture and the feels it produced

That said, I can give you some quality L1 Frank v Doom advice.

For starters, it's a bad matchup, obviously. With good assists, Doom still keeps you out so to speak, because plasma beam bops assists and all his assist needs to be able to do is stop you from jumping forward over and over.

If you CAN get in, though.. for instance, like if Doom is alone(where jumping forward > plasma beam and Zonbie Swing > photon, so you can generally close distance), there are things you can do against his super jump photon flowchart.

You want to be able to do sjM xx L Air Tools, Kneedrop, as a general confirm. This works at level 1, and gets you free damage, oki, and Level 2, at the least(which is actually important against doom), or a kill if you blow XF.. All you need to do is have good ground movement, and wave/plink dash in under his photon shots to get behind him. He'll either get a plasma beam, try to footdive, or play it safe and clam up, in my experience. sjM as an air to air beats the first two(because footdive moves him away from you in that situation), and is safe to the third.

The biggest problem is when his back is to the corner, and you can't get behind him. That makes it much harder to stop him from doing it, and you generally have to get right under him, block the photon shots, block his mixup on the way down, and then hope you can pressure him or catch him slipping etc. If you have L2, you can roll into the corner to push him out, where you may be able to mess up his controls or make him go on the defensive again, etc.

Question for Dante users.

Sometimes when I bold cancel teleport I end up on the same side while my opponent is getting wall bounced on the other side. Any idea why this happens? If it's a timing thing then I don't get it.

I'm probably not qualified to answer this but I used to have the same problem. I think it's a spacing issue and possibly some slight timing. Try just doing the bold move without the teleport after the stinger and see which way he jumps. If he jumps backward then you were too close. You can still do it when you're close you just have to be faster.

This is just what I taught myself, so it could be complete bullshit.
Anyone wanna play some matches today? I'm craving marvel.
I might be able to depending on what time. Hopefully it won't be as laggy as last time. Where are you located anyway?

Good idea, I'll need to try that. It makes me sad when I feel like I'm styling with him only to teleport on the wrong side of the screen and look like a fool.
