Why is it so hard for people to believe the finished game will not look like this? Are all the salty posters AAA game developers themselves or just talking out their ass?
There are plenty of people who've said they doubt it'll look this good or at least look this good at 60fps(amirox comes immediately to mind), who haven't been chastised. The main contingent of those who have, have made simple claims without any substance, or have tried using false equivalences which come across as desperate and don't hold up to any sort of scrutiny. Why is it so hard for people to believe that some could have a differing and more skeptical position, without having anything to do with "being salty"? Is the Console War trash so ingrained in the mind of some of you? It's really annoying to argue something with this background framework.
I'll remain skeptical, solely based on the Last of Us reveal trailer which also had the "directly captured from a PS3" line.
But if anyone could pull this off it would probably be Naughty Dog

Show me the reveal trailer of TLOU that says 'directly captured from PS3'.

Memory ... how does it work?
Well it would be interesting to know what they said when pressed on the issue after the last of us reveal.Well, that was why there was scepticism in the first place. We've since had multiple sources indicate that what we saw, was real time and in game; which would tell us that the cutscenes are not prerendered, ala their PS3 output.
I stand corrected. I've never seen that version before. Where was that shown?
Why do people think this is not possible running on PS4 in RT? The scene is fixed and not dynamic (i.e. actual gameplay footage). Also, you can clearly tell the rendering quality is not equal to an offline renderer like that AC Unity trailer.

Hmmm.... I actually forgot about this reveal trailer, the part where it said directly captured from PS3.

That said, this trailer showed the visuals that did end up in the final game. I don't remember any downgrade, the character model actually looked even better in the final game. The very last shot of the city also has visible aliasing. Not to mention this trailer was also from an in-game level.

Also stuff like Halo 3's reveal trailer also ran in real time but received a significant downgrade afterwards so I'm simply cautious about teasers like that where levels, AI and overall gameplay are probably not set in stone yet.
VGAs 2011
As the title of the video suggests.
Actually it did. The lighting and shadows might have taken a setback but the character models were pretty much the same. Animation in the trailer is always going to be better. The gameplay didn't look like that.
There's also this tweet by Evan Wells. Understandably, ND's previous use of the "directly captured" phrase is why many were initially so hesitant to believe Yu's tweets meant real-time.
The IQ,lighting, shadows, foliage and textures took a significant hit in the final release.Actually it did. The lighting and shadows might have taken a setback but the character models were pretty much the same. Animation in the trailer is always going to be better.
Define 'significant' here. The IQ,lighting, shadows, foliage and textures took a significant hit in the final release.
I meant pressed on the issue during the time the last of us trailer came out. What their responses would have been back then.Read the OP?

But also seems like they're very open about it here and anything but vague, so I believe them that it's running in real time (perhaps the last of us reveal did as well). I'm just cautious about what ends up in the game because lots of stuff can change after the initial teaser (they themselves are still talking about targeting 60fps, right? So that's for example something that isn't set in stone)
They are still rendered on a PS3 and as explained in OP, Naughty Dog have ditched these pre-rendered scenes from now on, so I doubt if we will see them again. That VGA 2011 trailer looks like the pre-rendered cutscenes from the game which look much better than the gameplay.

for me the more exciting thing isn't the graphical quality, but that they now have the lead animator from ACIII working at naughty dog. hopefully he can bring that 'grounded' look from AC to ND's games.

Yea but is the game play the same? Puzzles and platforming got old. Change that shit up.
Change it up!

x2Really? I want them to include more puzzles and more platforming. It was the gun play that was getting old for me.

Haha what?
I'm not sure if my reality is skewed or your reality is screwed.
What??
Something's wrong here.

ND said that Drake has more than twice the amount of polygons than Joel (30k polygons) from TLOU, but Nate UC4 looks extremely detailed without any of that polygon "blockyness", even up close everything is nicely rounded.
What I'm saying is it looks more than 60-70k
Pre-pre-order canceled?
I don't want AC in my Uncharted.
Edit* Ah...I see what you mean above.
As long as I'm not running towards a platform and my character suddenly decides to randomly climb a rock next to it.
