Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

I will never buy a WiiU if I can't transfer my VC purchases.
I might borrow one to play select games, but that is it.

That kind of practice (along with terrible localization practices) really make me lose confidence in investing in the platform.

Have not bought VC games or wiiware games in ages, yet I impuse buy games on Steam like crazy.
There is the chance to transfer games from DSi to 3DS?

If the answer is "NO", I'll not be too optimistic

Not sure why there's such scepticism re: VC transfers from Wii to Wii U when our most recent example of a Nintendo generational shift that *did* involve DD titles showed that they will allow users to transfer games and apps.

So will everyone here be getting their Wii U on Day 1 / Week 1?
Yup.

That AA, certainly.

To see Wii games were jaggy would be like describing the ocean as moist.
Haha!

I just realized: with MotionPlus, the sensor bar is almost entirely unnecessary for aiming/pointing purposes (as Skyward Sword has demonstrated). This means that one could conceivably play a shooter with pointer controls on the Wii U screen alone, provided the controller were propped up somehow. (A built-in kickstand might not be a bad idea.)
Dude, you know the screen is 6.2" right? :P

I am guessing it will be "Download this channel, launch it, it will put all your VC games on this SD card, put it in your Wii U, launch a similar channel there, the license for all these games have transferred from that Wii to this Wii U."
Unless they move Wii to Nintendo Network too. HA!

exactly. also, what would the purpose of a network service be if u couldn't transfer data? come on people...

There should honestly be a single Nintendo account. VC, 3DSware, Wiiware, Wiiuware should all be tied to it. whatever restrictions they implement (one hardware installation per software owned only, etc. ) I dont care. Consumers are expecting these kinds of services nowadays. Transferring contacts from email clients and cell phones, itunes, sharing apps between devices, etc.

I would not be surprised if there is a move to this, similar to iTunes. They could release a Wii System Update that ties your purchases to a Nintendo Network account and simply re-downloads them. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they plan to do when the whole of NiN is switched on.

Oh I agree it makes sense for them to do it.
That is why I am skeptical haha.

So, thread IV has started, wow.
But what do I see on frontpage? 1GB RAM?

Posted? from the GO site:
Namco Bandai preparing Taiko Drum Master for Wii U

We just learned of a new Taiko Drum Master game for the 3DS, but now we see that Namco Bandai may be preparing a Wii U version as well. While it's not active at the moment, Namco Bandai has registered http://taikowiiu.namco-ch.net. They could be saving themselves from a domain squatter in the future, or they might be at work on something now!

Y'know, we're in our own little bubble here, but I wanted to bring something in from.... OUTSIDE THE THREAD. *ominous music*

We always talk about hardware companies going out of business, but what if this upcoming gen is the one where a major software publisher just.... DIES?

I was thinking about this when I was writing this post in the thread blaming Cacpcom's current state on Inafune's departure:

Can we tackle one publisher at a time, guys?

We have enough to worry about with:

* Sega totally hitting the shitter under the reign of Nagoshi, who can't pump out Yakuza games fast enough and may consolidate ALL of their internal teams for that one sole purpose except the 3 whimpering idea-devoid slaves who are still part of Sonic Team

* Konami's dick moves and talent bleed with the consumption of Hudson, their worship of Kojima and their complete and utter abuse of Silent Hill

* Bandai Namco trotting out their Soul Calibur zombie-horse so it can be given another stern beating for no good reason because they have NOTHING ELSE to offer, unless poorly-marketed sales bombs like the Tales series count (though Xillia is supposedly amazing, I'll believe it when I see it... and NBGI aren't letting me see it yet)

* Square Enix, who can't release FFVersusXIII even 5 YEARS after it's announcement, but are now pumping out their 4th Kingdom Hearts game this generation, as they seem content being a mobile game publisher instead and letting their industry clout hit the shitter with terrible Final Fantasy games, KH milking so hard the utters are hemorrhaging and NOTHING else on the horizon

Seriously... we're worried about the one Japanese publisher who embarrasses themselves with PR fumbles while still being the most successful of all of them this generation?!

PRIORITIES, folks, we need to have them straightened out.

It seriously concerns me. We might have IP Auctioning Wars to deal with in the upcoming 5 years.

It almost makes you wonder if that's why Nintendo's been sitting on their cash. :(

Sorry if old: new details about the rumour saying Nintendo is working on a Simulation Racer for Wii U >
‘Players will begin their careers working for R&D Division, one of many fictional automobile manufacturers and concept design providers in the game. The title features a deep car customization element which allows you to build cars from scratch based on concepts provided by car manufacturers such as R&D Division. Using Wii U’s tablet, players can customize everything from the vehicles individual spark plugs to curing plastics on the exterior finish. Once a player finishes their first vehicle, they’ll be put through R&D Tests, which has been directly compared to Gran Turismo’s licensing system.’

Dual Pixels also provided in depth details of the Online Mode in the game:

‘CGP ‘s online multiplayer will add longevity to the title by providing monthly challenges many of which will require you to design cars to pass downloadable R&D Tests. Online races will accommodate 12-players simultaneously; you will earn points by creating cars and racing them for your company.’

I'd say Konami is the one with serious problems. In the gaming market (they are profitable in other sectors right?) their only sure sellers are PES and MGS. Everything else is... well, shit. Especially the Silent Hill franchise. I did like Climax's take on the series with Shattered Memories. Wish they got a new chance at making a new one. With some proper marketing ofcourse.

Edit: if the title bothers a lot of posters, then a mod could change it to "A New Hype" :P

It couldn't hurt to end the complaining.

And as pointed out in that thread, games aren't even Konami's primary income source anymore, it's real estate and fitness centers, of all things. So truthfully, if anyone is going to put gaming on the outs, it's probably them by selling all their investments in it, auctioning their existing IPs and putting KojiPro out to pasture as an independent developer (which would seriously fuck Kojima up, something I greatly approve of).

The writing was on the wall when they asked Hudson to be a mobile games developer and a huge chunk of the talent fled to Nintendo, not to mention the Team Silent folks scattered to the winds.

Had Koei and Tecmo not consolidated, one of them would have been on the outs, too. But we've reached a point now where further consolidation is a dangerous proposition as most companies are large enough with their consolidations that one likely can't afford to consume the other.

Real estate and fitness centers? Ha, I had no idea.

In ten, fifteen years I'm expecting a Japanese development front with only a few mega publishers.

Real estate and fitness centers? Ha, I had no idea.

In the last ten, fifteen years Ive seen the Japanese development front shrink to only a handful of mega publishers.
Fixed. :P

Also as far as im aware this really only applies to what we see in the west as im under the impression japan has quite a strong and sustainable mid to low tier devolpment community.

But MotionPlus is so clunky as a pointer compared to the IR sensor. Seriously, it was painful just choosing your file in Skyward Sword, like you had to move it 3x what you normally would to get the cursor to move down the the OK button. The IR pointer is great, I'm not sure why they had to try to shoehorn MotionPlus into EVERY freaking piece of that game. The menu? Come on.

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking. If they port SS to Wii U in HD with the pointer, I'll be all over that shit.

Just 9,990 more posts until I accomplish my goal for this thread! :o

(good mornin', peeps!)
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Nintendo has its own priorities lost as far as this issue is concerned.

I have mentioned several times thatit's Nintendo's priority to just survive this transiton, and that "to the survivors go the spoils." This is the kind of thing I was thinking of.
