Witcher 3 Wins GOTY @ The Game Awards 2015!

It's amazing how a third entry in the series didn't need the pull from it's previous entries to become such a massive success. That's a testament to how skilled and talented CDPR is as a developer, and they deserve nothing but the best. Congrats guys, you put out a masterpiece!!

Very surprised MGSV won for best score of all things. Were they counting the 80s hits? As there was very little scoring overall, let alone during actual gameplay.

I was suprised it was even nominated for the category let alone actually win it. The Witcher 3's soundtrack was far superior. I'd be fine with Ori winning as well and Bloodborne should've been nominated over MGS/Halo.

A waste of time, really.

lmfao this post wins

They're all translated basically in every other language except english. If people wanted they could buy the other versions and then read the fan translations for english.

All the books save the last two (The Swallow's Tower and Lady of The Lake) are officially released in English. The last two should be released on English in the next two years. If you can't wait that long, fan translations will help

And btw, if anyone have been waiting for the US edition of The Sword of Destiny (The second book of the series), wait no more, it has been released just recently :)

Well deserved. This one is in my top 25 games of all time for sure.

Some key points I think stand out about W3:

-Plot pacing is handled perfectly, it uses open world design extremely well and CDPR knows when to implement more linear, cinematic missions without them feeling intrusive to the experience (act 2 climax, damn!).
-Geralt is clearly an established character with his own personality, yet they give the player a set of choices that all somehow feel natural within his character.
-The bestiary and character info.

-There are many unique details, even in minor sidequests. Sometimes even minor gameplay mechanics that are unique or rarely used. The manage to evade the copy paste feeling so many open world games suffer from by adding the right amount of unique details in each quest/location/character. For example, I like how random merchants all seem to have some minor unique banter, rather than just have the same hello/bye every time.
-Gwent is fun and adds some strategy depth to the game for those willing to dive into it.

-They nailed DLC so far. First the free add-ons and then Hearts of Stone, which has a good price and a great amount of content. And the physical gwent deck is neat.
-They keep their word and keep working on the performance of their game. I am impressed that they managed to get low-20's fps area's to mostly consistent 30, for example. Here's hoping they get access to that unlocked CPU in the PS4, maybe they can make it even more stable or address some other issues (pop in, for example).

The last DLC, Blood and Wine, is something I look forward to more than any other game in 2016. And I am a massive Naughty Dog fan. Twice the scope of Hearts of Stone in terms of content and a completely new area? To me that sounds on par (at least) with what I get out of most full priced games.

So I own the game digitally (fuck me), so it looks like I'm stuck with it. What's the point that's supposed to wow me

My friend tells me it was Red Baron and witches of the forest (?)

I did both and nothing, actually can't believe someone compared Red Baron quest to dark brotherhood quest but whatever, is there any other point that I should be wowed?

Probably not.

You don't have to like every game and if it hasn't grabbed you yet, then it won't even if you continue playing.

Last paragraph is something straight out of bizzaro world though, lol.

Well deserved for Wicther 3, but no f*cking trophy for Bloodborne ? Even in art direction ? I strongly disagree, this is a joke.

Well deserved.... great game and even with it's length one of the few games that I've played through without switching to another game then switching back to finish... (my gaming ADHD is so bad)

It's not for you. Give up.

I think most of us saw this from a mile away. Wished I didn't stop play because Batman came out and wished I didn't keep playing Batman until I got the lame KnightFall ending. Still haven't play enough Witcher 3. Have to finish Fallout 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X first. Witcher 3... You'll get your turn.

Honestly, that game was not for me, but you couldn't have gone wrong with a single game on that list.

Well done, CDPROJEKT. A game that will hopefully push WRPGs even further forward.

Having different tastes is OK. Comparing the Baron quest to dark brotherhood shows a huge bias.

The first game on a new engine usually is pretty thin. Not all games are as thin as the Order, but I could see them giving RAD a shot.

I dunno man..just, 5 years, on 6 hour long cover shooter...and they even fucked up the story..it is utterly bizzare to me. It feels like they spent 4 years only working on the engine and then doing everything else that last year.

Bias towards what? Lots of people were comparing it to dark brotherhood

You are literally the first person I have seen do that across GAF, Reddit and about 10 other sites I frequent.

I do find it a ridiculous comparison, and I actually liked Dark Brotherhood (assuming you mean Oblivion one).

Personally, I think the two are comparable if you're talking about the very, very high level of writing compared to most RPG quests.

That said, even though Bethesda RPGs are pretty much my favorite games ever, the Witcher 3 deserves it this year even against Fallout 4. Loads of content, insanely high quality writing, very nicely developed world..

Witcher 3 is a very easy pick for GOTY. Bloodborne and Fallout 4 were also terrific games, but I agree with whoever said it was the best RPG since Baldur's Gate 2. The entire thing is an A-Z master class in game design. While I prefer the sandboxy nature of Bethesda games, I can't deny that Witcher 3 has loads more craft put into it.

And I'm somebody who didn't play more than an hour of Witcher 2 due to the supremely shitty combat. Finished the first Witcher game, though.

Also - why is anyone talking about The Order, one of the worst piles of first party shit to come across any console in the last 5 years, in any kind of GOTY thread? Good christ, people. :D

I ain't even mad. Best game released this year. Although, I should've played it on PC instead of PS4 but I'm not complaining.

Salty as fuck for Bloodborne, that game's going to get robbed so hard on this award season.

Still, TW3 absolutely deserves it.

That's what you tell yourself, but the list will keep growing. The beast known as backlog will never be beaten.
