World of Final Fantasy |OT| Lightning Inside

So this was always a day one purchase for me, but it was pushed back due to some unforeseen expenses. That demo, which should not exist in its current form, also turned me off a bit. Still, I'd check this thread multiple times per day, and trusted GAF's positive impressions.

Finally picked it up yesterday, and I'm so glad I did. Everything about this game is great, including its art style, voice acting, gameplay and soundtrack. I've already put seven hours into the game, and I actually plan on finishing this one. Looking forward to checking out the online arena as well.

My girlfriend has also taken some interest in it, mostly due to its art style, and I may teach her to play her first JRPG. I think it's a great starting point for those looking to get into the genre.

I don't know if a game that's all about referencing the other Final Fantasy games would be a great starting point

Played it a bit, the game is fine, but it could use less tutorial stuff. They basically explained what the door does 3 times.

Also I really don't like how dialogs appear in the game, I would have preferred FFVII-IX dialog boxes.

Loving this game. So damn charming. Between this and Bravely, SE is back for me. XV would just be icing on the cake.

Any tips for improving your chances of imprisming something, or do you just have to keep trying again and again until you get lucky?
I'm trying to get
Shiva and Ifrit
but it seems like no matter how much I weaken them, they just don't wanna imprism.

Am I missing something, I've been running around The Nether Nebula for like an hour trying to find a way to balance out this puzzle piece. I can't find anything but mandragora, copper gnomes, floating eyes and mini golems. Surely I've just missed something obvious!

The chances of catching them go up the more you use their imprism condition against them, you can tell by the white circle beneath them since it changes.

Just got it today and so far I'm really enjoying it. The game makes a very strong first impression. It's very pretty to look at and the english voice acting is solid so far.

I do find the stacking system and all the different mirages a bit overwhelming. With systems like these I always have the feeling I am missing something or leveling the wrong mirages (or stacking them the wrong way).

But I guess I will know soon enough if I do it wrong by getting destroyed by a boss or something.

I was thinking about picking this up to play with my girlfriend. I know reviews seems to be fairly positive, but my main concern is about the game getting repetitive and too grindy after 15-20 hours. Could anyone already advanced in the game tell his experience?

The ones in the arena? You just
use a fire spell on Ifrit and an ice spell on shiva. You can put it into a more likely chance of capturing if you use a 2nd spell on them which you'll notice should change the aura around them for imprisming.

No kidding? I knew how to get a prismtunity for them both but didn't know you had to use the spells again to boost your odds! I thought it was just dependant on how much life they had left, like weakening a Pokemon.

Much appreciated!

Tama said something about being able to cast Libra on Mirkrift cubes to see what was inside before entering, but I can't for the life of me figure out how.

Edit: Oooh. Just caught a cactrot on my first try. I get the feeling I'm lucky it didn't run.

It took me 23 hours for the story, 41% of mirages, probably around 120 chests, dabbling in a few interventions and coliseum fights and fast forwarding battles in the second half. The relatively short length compared to many 'full price' RPGs isn't so much a problem for me as that it at times seemed too long, with several dungeons in particular dragging on with copy-pasted maps. And yet, at the end, it made me want to try to get all the mirages. However, I will do so with a guide since I want to know what abilities to bring along.

I'm 20 in and feel like I still have a ways to go (phantom sands)

Got the physical Vita version. Aside from some lower framerate in some areas it never becomes a problem and battles play great. Glad I made the right choice, since I can bring it with me I'll probably be able to finish it before XV launches.

Is it a big deal if I killed the black chocobochick to get the momento and if I died at
Valefor
and got that momento too?

I'm mostly just worried that I'm locking myself out of a platinum.

Not a big deal, you can catch both those things (or Transfigurations of them) later or by repeating the dungeon (leave completely and return to respawn rares) or by doing a Coliseum battle.

To Transfigure a monster, you need to unlock a new Mirage Board or Transfiguration for them on their current Mirage Board (requires certain levels and/or Momento items), once those are unlocked then you may switch their form at any time when you're using the Prism Case by pushing Options while the Mirage is highlighted.

Since they keep any stat boosts or abilities without the fancy swirls around them, it is better to have a single Mirage explore every possible path than it is to nab a single Mirage of each type. (Though of course you should do that if you like having a "Living Pokédex".)

Momentos mean you can transfig them, so no, you aren't missing out on them.

Also field rares respawn.

Cool, thanks!

Can anyone explain what just happened to me?

I have a Black Nakk that I was leveling the one square I unlocked said I unlocked the White Nakk Mirage board but.... I don't see it?

Check the transfig menu. You should now be able to switch to White Nakk, which is its own mirage board and evolution line. It's unnecessarily confusing.

Sunken Temple question

How do you defend against
Tonberry King's everyone's grudge attack? He keeps wiping my party out right before I beat him.

Edit: never mind, I managed!

Ahhhh I really love this game. Everything is so charming. The only disappointment I've had so far is the voice acting for
Quistis
. It's really not what I expected at all.

I also need to decide if I should transfigure my White Nakk or hold off until I complete the whole board. With my Behemoth baby not being able to hit large until 25 there's not really a point in making Reynn or Lann lilikin to accomadate the large mirage.

I don't really understand capturing mirages. Apparently the window to capture them is limited once they enter a capture-able state? And it only lasts a few turns or something. This is particularly frustrating because there doesn't seem to be a way to get them back into capture state once they lose it.

Just redo the requirement. If they need to be healed, throw another heal on them.

soooo can someone explain the difference between unlocking a transfiguration and unlocking a mirage board?

Literally a few posts up.

TRANSFIG: direct evolution line, shared stats/skills/levels
MIRAGE BOARD: you can transfig to them but separate evolution line and mirage boards don't cross over. like cousins.

So I quite liked the combat in the demo, (stacking is interesting and I loved the Tidus summon) and decided to pick this up as I thought it would be a charming little RPG.

I started it up last night and after 3 hours I think I'm done with it. I still like the combat well enough. Capturing mirages, levelling them using and taking down stacks is good fun. Also much better after I realised you can set the classic menu as the standard menu.

The problem is characters, story and dialogue are really important to me and honestly they are absolutely insufferable here. Lann is especially dire with his "what the honk!" And saying "Dude" all the time. I understand this is most likely aimed at a younger audience but it seems insulting to their intelligence to be honest. I also find it hard to deal with the exaggerated animations the main characters make.

I just don't think I can go back to it :(

This is so interesting to me because I think the combat is the least interesting thing about this game.

This isn't the greatest rpg or anything (battles are too slow even fast forwarded, the towns are too non-interactive, it's too linear in the main story, dungeons are just ok, you can get stuck in unwinnable battles that don't let you escape) but at least it's super cute and charming. I'm even used to the the thing. I like the characters, the graphics and music are nice, the story is basic but inoffensive......it's just a good, solid, fun fanservice game. I'm 17 hours in and deep into chapter 18. It's interesting to me how polarizing the characters and dialogue are, because if they were serious and dry, I would have dropped this game long ago. The parts with the cactuar conductor are the best.

Oh really? It's not the best I've ever seen by any stretch but it's fun enough just a little slow. You prefer the dialogue and story over the combat? Genuinely curious.

Dude.

Late game combat is kind of a snooze. They never really do much with stacking. All the bosses have 100% status immunity and only 3-4 attacks they use. Battles become exploit elemental weakness, heal, move on. Maybe the final coliseum rounds are different, but I'm at 60 and at the worst battles are just attrition.
Bahamut
was the worst.

Catching, mirage boards and transfig are much more fun.
