Have to say early on I'm enjoying the game. It's tickling both my Final Fantasy fandom and my compulsion to catch all the Pokemons. As a result, it took me like 12 hours just to get to chapter 8 because I had to catch them ALL. Fritt and Zapt were assholes and took like 2 hours to spawn 1 of each, but at least during that time I grinded out a bunch of things to be rampaging death gods.
And nothing's more awesome than having Shiva and Ifrit carrying their baby cousins in their stacks. Except for the stack stability ;_;
intro was g-l-o-r-i-o-u-s. Nice to have a spin-off recognizing her glory! Yas queen, etc. I've been so pleasantly surprised all round by the complete lack of flanderization of all the FF characters I've met so far. I never thought I'd find WoL likeable, but here we are! Princess Sarah is fun and charming. Sherlotta is hilarious.
Rikku
was an especially pleasant surprise. Even though she's a character that I've liked over the years, she did have grating personality elements even from her original game that got a lot worse in the sequel+KH. In WoFF, she's not silly at all, and is just genuinely likeable. I'm looking forward to see Cloud and Lightning, as Cloud in particular has probably been hit with the flanderization stick more than any other FF character.
It's great they've made an effort to get the Japanese and English voice actors back, too, it's been nostalgic to hear them all again. I also can't get over how deep Tonberry sounds in English, especially considering what a deep voice Jouji Nakata has in the Japanese version.
I'm still enjoying the gameplay, too. I hadn't realised the flexibility of the mirages at the beginning of the game, and thought it would be necessary to do so much more imprisming that you actually need to. (ie. being able to transfig a white nakk into a black nakk, etc.) I'd been a bit half-assed about unlocking mirajewels, so I think I might have to do a little catch-up.
The problem is characters, story and dialogue are really important to me and honestly they are absolutely insufferable here. Lann is especially dire with his "what the honk!" And saying "Dude" all the time. I understand this is most likely aimed at a younger audience but it seems insulting to their intelligence to be honest. I also find it hard to deal with the exaggerated animations the main characters make.
Fair enough if it's not clicking for you - the story does seem to be the usual Square spin-off Kingdom Hearts/Dissidia fare. If it helps at all, as the game goes on, it does balance humour for a younger and much older audience surprisingly well. I've also been really pleasantly surprised by how well done all the FF characters are, some of them are better written the original game they came from. I enjoyed the game for the first few hours, but really started to have a lot more fun with it as more of the world opened up with a lot more characters to interact with. The interventions (mini-quests from the POV of Final Fantasy characters) and the mirage flavour text are consistently amazing. The interventions are better than the main story, honestly. I really do get your complaint, though - I'm not a fan of over-exaggerated characters, either. Thankfully Lann and Tama are probably the most over-exaggerated characters in the game, everyone else is fairly sedate. The contrast made Lann's interactions with
I do enjoy the combat, but, yeah, it's the music and the localization that have made WoFF a surprisingly memorable experience for me. I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I have.
The story reminds me of Bravely Default, where they take the classic Final Fantasy story beats at first, but instead of being self aware, meta and subverting it as they go on, it just falls into absolute Kingdom Hearts style nonsense.
TRANSFIG: direct evolution line, shared stats/skills/levels
MIRAGE BOARD: you can transfig to them but separate evolution line and mirage boards don't cross over. like cousins.

Yeah,
Quistis
and
The Girl Who Forgot Her Name
are the only two characters that sound like they're reading off a script. Everyone else I've heard thus far has been great.
Faris
was so good.

quite cute.

I think I could make it past it if it was the side characters but the main two characters are the ones I hate most lol. I did like Princess Sarah, she was rather charming but her interactions with Lann just made me want to punch his teeth in XD
I am debating trying to push through as I want to see a lot of the FF characters but as you say I just don't think it's for me, it seems to be pretty popular with a lot of you guys and gals here though
World of FF is the most true to FF game in awhile imo, since XIV ARR anyway. The soundtrack (the first over world area really hit me) to the characters and story in general. It's actually pretty easy to follow so far, and the environments feel like 16 / 32 bit era in style.
Also Seraphie reminds me of a Parappa / Umjammer Lammy character.
Battle system is enjoyably challenging on 5+active (almost died twice to normal enemies, but that might've been because I was trying to catch em).
So on good news I got my favourite Final Fantasy monster as a pet (Malboro!) But on bad news I now learn that they are evolutions for the Mandragons and I could have had one so much sooner if I dedicated leveling my existing Mandragon.
I really like most aspects of WoFF but dam do I hate the topple crap. Once I get toppled that's it I might as well reset the game, which is very frustrating. What's the point of Phoenix downs? Once a stack is toppled it is near impossible to revive everyone let alone get them revived, stacked and healed. I guess what I need to do is spend the entire battles stopping topple. Just a bit frustrated.
is there a reason i'd want more than 1 of a specific mirage? I see each board has an unlock for another prism but I don't see why i'd want that, unless you get an xp bonus or something?

That saved my butt, because I accidentally unlocked the Bihydra Mirage Board on my Dualizard, which means the game didn't toss me a free Prism when I encountered the Bihydra. So I Transfig'd over and spent my points to get a new Prism.
It is mostly for those who want a "Living Mirage Manual" or whatever it is called. Some people that play Pokémon play that way too, basically you store 1 of every Pokémon, including their various Evolutions in your bank.
It can be useful for stacking if a Mirage has a S and M form, I guess.
Wohoo! Beat the big bad optional boss that every final fantasy seems to have. Think that about wraps it up unless I want to try and find all the treasure chests ><
Did anyone else double dip and get both versions? I have a feeling I'll be playing this game for a LONG time, on the go and at home. Trying to level up & transfigure all those mirages.

It can be tricky, but I've not found topple to be much of an issue so far. Just be sure to unstack and restack before you go over. That, or be mindful of the stability stat when building stacks.
I've had Lann in a weak stability stack for most of the game so far and it's not really caused me many issues. I'm only 14 hours or so into it though, so maybe it's a problem I'll encounter further down the line?
I gotta admit, Tama's voice actor really sticks with it, it's pretty impressive. Especially when she was speaking toad and was still putting the-'s in there

I tried unstacking but I end up in the same situation I'm in after reviving. Everyone gets killed off before I get them restscked. Maybe I'm missing something.
Finally got the game in the mail from Gamerang yesterday. Played two hours. At first I thought this game was going to be very cheesy and some parts of it are but the localization is really good and sharp. There are lots of little things that are winning me over and make me want to keep playing. Definitely pleasantly surprised!

You could always cast Balance/Balancega or use a Wobblestopper before the Stack topples.
There are also passive abilities on multiple Mirages that help reduce taking topple damage under various conditions (Full Health, Low Health, while status ailments are applied, etcetera). Or use a Mirage that gains buffs when they are unstacked to restack them quickly. Black Chocochick has "Unstacked Haste" for example, I've also seen "Unstacked Evasion", though I forget which Mirage has it.
I don't really have problems with my own stacks getting toppled if they start as Good, it seems Average and Weak stacks are way more prone to going down.
For some reason my Sephiroth champion medal has disappeared upon loading my save game today. Nothing has been changed on the system, it is online etc.
Anyone else have this or any ideas how to fix it? If the DLC only registers at the start of a game then it appears I am now shit out of luck regardless of why it has happened. It was the best one I had as well.
So I finally got my copy yesterday. The intro/tutorial was pretty unbearably boring/long, but I started getting into it in the area you get introduced to
Warrior of Light
. After I beat that boss, I explored a bit and accidentally killed
the black chocobo
. Is it possible to respawn him to try to Imprism him? I did get a
- The game is... Linear like FFXIII linear. But then again you can always go back to the older areas at any time and there are more things to do. Plus the characters are fun.

Leave and return to that dungeon, the "rare" Mirage will be in the same spot regardless of if you won or lost. This goes for all similar Mirages as far as I know.
To access Transfiguration, make sure the appropriate Transfig or Mirage Board is checked off on the (other member of the same family) Mirage's Mirage Board, then use the Options button on your controller while having the Mirage highlighted while using the Prism Case.
Aside from the obvious graphical downgrade and sometimes choppy frame rate, it's pretty good. Honestly this type of game is perfect for the Vita, where I can just go through all the random encounters and catch mirages while doing something else.

Cool, thanks for the tips! I think my issue is that the Mirage Board wasn't there yet. When I opened the Transfig menu, there were just 4-5 blacked out boxes, and I think the issue was that I didn't unlock their Transfig nodes. Makes sense at least.
Some effects are clearly missing like depth of field and framerate suffers a bit in some areas. The battles themselves are fine. You better watch some videos on youtube and take your own conclusions.

Had no idea about board mastery. Got all the nodes on my Glow Moogle and was given a bunch of options to choose from, Earthquake, Lightning resistance++, magic defence+++ (+50, wow) and a couple of forgettable ones like Double bash. I chose the 50 magic defense lol.
I then transfigured my glow moogle over to a normal moogle since I had no more skills to get on him, and nothing carried over, or at least it didn't seem too. That's really lame
I want to smack whoever the fuck came up with the grid "minigame" in Chapter 21. Especially with there being something tied behind doing it in under 20 turns which I can't seem to be able to do; I can't beat it without taking a single hit, but after a couple of attempts I must have been just barely not making it in under 20 turns (I wasn't counting). 100% dead stopped me in my tracks from playing anymore right now.

Sounds like a good party to me. The Sharks in this game are bad ass, though I've only gotten the first two Transfigs of that Mirage so far. The last one is XL, right?
Unfortunately I've had to take a hiatus due to a chronic health problem flaring up. I want to play more, darn it.
