Xbox has announced a multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer new silicon chips for the next-generation of Xbox consoles

nope they won't have shit, unlike 360 they are not in a position to headstart any gen.

all their studios will have ps5 as their lead platform all the way into 2030, let alone keep supporting series-potato.
It's a desperate move, and I doubt it'll make much of a difference — but we'll see.

I'm not an Xbox gamer, always been a Playstation guy. I'm glad however to hear this, I hope Xbox can bring something new and innovative to the console hardware space, we've already seem how complacent Sony has been this generation with their first party output, and 100 dollar disc drives.

Bring something competitive back into the console market will be healthy, and work out better for us gamers.

No need for it to compete with the PS6 — it's aiming for something totally different.
I wonder: will it work? I think it will be niche.

Vindication x100 for you lol.

They're not making a console in the traditional sense anymore.
They are developing a lineup of different gaming devices, all Windows gaming PCs in different form factors with different specs targeted at different markets, that can run PC games under Windows that you can buy potentially from multiple stores.
Third party partners like Asus will be allowed to manufacture such devices based on a reference design.

Love them or hate them, we also need xbox in gaming industry. As Sony said, competition is important for them. But is it kind of late with there partnership with AMD? Sony already made a deal with AMD, much earlier, a few years back which will make them ready for next gen console and on schedule for 2028. Sony's Cerny and AMD Amethyst AI project for ps6, is in development for a while now, and in progress already. Psr4 and PSSR will even integrate for ps5 pro next year.

It takes many years for development and research, if its just recently there deal with AMD , that puts them to launch there next gen around 2030. Or maybe it really is like an Alienware, hybrid console and pc which makes it easier in development.

There's no reason for me to buy one if I can get the games on PlayStation. I bought a Series X, my first Xbox since the OG, and I won't be making that mistake again.

I have 800+ games on my Xbox that I bought, so I plan to keep those going forward by buying the next gen Xbox. Going PS means I would have to buy them all over again, and a lot of them are not on PS.

Given that people were shocked at the price of the PS5 Pro i can't wait to see what people's reactions will be when the price of the Next Xbox will be at a similar or even higher price. This machine will not be retailing at 400-500 that much is certain.

They also need to allow us to bring our own fucking storage expansion. The expansion cards on current gen Xboxes are overpriced ass. Let me just install an m.2 like the PlayStation does.

Now I believe the next home Xbox will launch earlier than PS6.
Its been their target for a bit now since they didn't release a pro console

I said this almost 2 years ago

So on vacation and traveling around a lot in the mountains so no cell service so wont be able to reply for a few days but it seems likely Playstation will have the pro market to themselves for a couple of years at least but sounds like Xbox will drop the next gen Xbox 2 well before PS drops the PS6

I wonder if their plan is to launch early, and then release a Pro version in conjunction with the PS6 to keep up in terms of hardware performance.

because otherwise they run the risk of being noticeably outclassed within 1 or 2 years

I know that. I'm referring to the fact that many doubted they'd ever launch anything to begin with.

The wording of their statement is very open to interpretation imo, but I'll wait and see before making an opinion. All will be revealed in due time.

I'm wondering if closer to the time of reveal/release of the next Xbox they update series x consoles with the new os as a test bed for the new platform.

Not sure how it might be able to default any stem/pc games to a default series x hardware setting but it would be interesting to see and to give people an idea of what to expect for the new console.

I'm down for this direction and stayed several times previously that I thought they would take this direction. I hope they open up to allow mod support and such on it.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 eo you think that might be a possibility?

I get that. I'm mostly physical, so I'm not really attached to any one console. Also, my Xbox library is quite small. I bought a few backwards compatible stuff on the Series X to go with my OG Xbox disc. This announcement is good news for people like yourself, but for those like me, I have no reason to support their hardware if I can get it elsewhere.

Being totally honest I hear way less about any kind of software (Games/OS) types of things than I get tidbits on hardware

I agree. It will have a premium price, or at least that's my feeling.

That was stupid, leaving the hardware business completely has no sense, these products will still contribute to a "ecosystem" perception and they will push windows PC gaming overall. That's their purpose.
But none is a traditional console and none of them is expected to sell tens of millions units.
Their wording is their way of telling you everything is now Windows gaming but in the form factor/device you prefer.

I agree. It will have a premium price, or at least that's my feeling.

PS5 Pro has set the precedent for $700, anything new from either vendor (unless it is specifically targeted as a low-spec 'cheaper' hardware) will be more expensive than that.

Folks expecting a prospective PS6 or Nextbox in '26 to '28 to be $499 are going to be severely disappointed.

Looking forward to playing GTA 6 next year with the new the brand new shiny Xbox. Superior graphics and 60 FPS. Wo-hoo!

Lmao you'll play the series X version on it and then rockstar will sell you a Series Z version for $90 a year after the console comes out.

So is this going to be the next traditional system from xbox? Maybe trying to get a jump out of the gate on the ps6? We thinking 2027?

If they're starting the convo now, I think it's probably gonna be eoy 2026 for X5 (with eoy 2027 for PS6).

Main hook I think is an enthusiast machine with a year of exclusivity on the next-gen version of GTAVI & a next-gen version of a massively overhauled COD in Modern Warfare IV, not only dropping PS4/X1, but then taking that ground-up current gen PS5/XS version and scaling it up with RT, AI, etc. up the wazoo.

Nothing new here really. Console was already confirmed. Multiyear deal with AMD isn't exactly a shocker.

Tbh seeing them come out and say it again is pretty nice though. I'll definitely keep an eye on it, though they'll have a tougher time selling me on it than previous ones. Will be sad to see if it doesn't have a disc drive, as that would immediately make all the Xbox discs on my shelf completely useless with it.

How close can these mad bastards get this out for GTA VI launch.

I bet they are scrambling like rats to get something out the door.
