Xbox will no longer have permanent console exclusives going forward according to Jez Corden

Stupid...just stupid.... I have all consoles,if my PS5 can play all Xbox games then why the fuck do I need an xbox again?

All xbox games come to PC and eventually PS5. All PS5 games eventually come to PC.

This is a large reason I just main PC now. Then work stuff, hobbies, mods, steam, etc.

Bloodborne being emulated on PC finally is that last hurdle.

PS only gamer here. I hate Starfield--not because it's not on PS5, but because it's not the type of game that appeals to me even remotely. I wouldn't have bought it if it were a PS5 exclusive with no PC or Xbox release. So if Xbox brings it over to PS5, that's great for the PS only gamers longing to play it, but the game doesn't suddenly become appealing to me. I'm not a fan of games like this, never got the hype for No Man's Sky

I also don't have any love for the venerable The Elder Scrolls series. I won't be buying any of the upcoming games, so whether or not they come to PS5 makes zero difference to me. And I'm very lukewarm on the next DooM. 2016 was phenomenal and a grand experience but I absolutely despise DooM: Eternal with a passion. The gameplay loop just feels so weak to me in comparison to 2016 and the platforming is god awful. So I'm in no rush to jump back into the series. I'd rather see iD resurrect the Quake series.

There are other Xbox only games I would happily play. I've never touched Halo or Gears Of War. I'd be into those. I also like arcadey racers, so Forza Horizon might hold some serious appeal for me. Those are games I would buy and play on my PS5 if Xbox brings them over. I'm sure there are some lesser titles from the past I've forgotten about as well.

Obviously I don't speak for all PS only gamers--probably not even most of them. I just know what I'd go for from the Xbox catalog.
Yeah I understand fully, lots of people don’t understand that it’s a matter of taste just like music or food. No Man’s Sky is one of my all time favorites and to little surprise Starfield was the Game of the Year for me when everybody loved Baldur’s Gate 3 which put me to sleep.

That said, going by noise online I don’t see a demand for Starfield among PS fans. I assume that need to change before they start using dev resources to deal with a port and patches etc.

For DOOM and Oblivion and Gears I guess and possibly even Avowed and Fable things aren’t as frosty. Then PS ports should be expected from now on, late in some cases but we know DOOM is day 1 and Oblivion should be as well.

They’ve vaguely said that The Elder Scrolls VI is Xbox/PC/Gamepass exclusive. I think that will change. And I think it’s a good thing for the game, less negativity coming from salt, but it’s probably the definite nail in the coffin for Xbox consoles since it’s the biggest IP Microsoft have now.
What else could act like a serious system seller at a next gen launch? Maybe Gears but I’m not sure it’s big enough to pull new people in, just adds to the ”It’s just Halo, Gears, Forza” complaints.

It’s not stupid if the numbers aren’t working in your favor. This is Xbox admitting that their gaming hardware is not their priority going forward. They would probably go for a pricing tier that’s far more differentiated for the next generation just to see if the market cares. If they still make inadequate traction, they will turn Xbox into a reference design for prebuilt PCs, like surface laptops, and focus entirely on software and games. Probably how they should have done this all along as most of their hardware initiatives go nowhere and eventually get shelved.

On topic, I’d like flight simulator, elder scrolls and the next perfect dark on ps5 please? With Indy already on the way, there really isn’t any other IP that has my interest at the moment.

No, Bloodborne Kart is the last hurdle.

Totally. Just because stuff is PS exclusive doesn't mean I as a PC gamer feel obligated to play it. For instance, I enjoy racers, but I despise the Gran Turismo series because it feels too much like, well, a driving simulator. I drive very regularly IRL. Sure, I'm not driving race cars down tracks, but it's just tedious and too realistic to me. I like my racers fun and arcadey and nothing like actually driving a racecar would be, so GT offers nothing for me to hang my hat on. Other games like Stellar Blade seem dull as dirt to me. Astro Bot looks fun but I can't justify paying $70 for it. And as a Switch owner--yeah I forgot I own a Switch Lite since I so rarely use the thing--I can't justify $60 or $70 for a Mario or Zelda title either. It's just too much money for what it is IMO. I know many other gamers lap those games up on day 1, and that's fine. I've bought plenty of stuff Day 1 many others wouldn't touch--at least not at full price--like Alone In The Dark (2024).

Each to this own, as the saying goes. We're lucky to have a hobby so diverse that it can feed so many different tastes.

Still wondering when Starfield will inevitably show up.

It's much maligned in a lot of ways, but it surely is a game folks seem to at least want on PS or view it as a key game to solidify this new strategy.

Seems the rumored Oblivion remake is PS5/Switch 2 also, so I'm not sure why they are so hesitant on Starfield.
They really fucked up when they didn't fully cash in on the Starfield hype with a PS5 version.

Now the hype is completely dead (not even diminished, dead), and there's an actual calculus that needs to happen on whether it's even worth it to port, because there's a possibility this doesn't sell on PS5 now.

I don't think we will see a Starfield 2 any time soon.

All very true. Once Starfield was released, it was revealed to be a very meh game. Not a bad title, but it didn't make most PS gamers feel like the were really missing out on something special. The envy just was not there. Over a year later, we PS gamers have pretty much forgotten about it. I personally didn't have interest in it to start, but I don't see it come up in discussions among PS gamers. There's no thirst. I never see someone say "I can't wait for Starfield to come to PS5.

If it does come, it will likely have a tepid response. At this juncture, it might do better to dump it into the PS+ Extra/Premium catalog and get money from Sony that way. It may drop as a standard title first and then migrate to that in six months or so, assuming of course it does get ported. But there are other titles Xbox has that are likely to perform better.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle will be the biggest bellweather. That game will likely be around six months old when it gets to PS5. It's in a genre that does well among many PS gamers. It'll be a day one purchase for me. If it does well in sales, that will encourage Xbox to bring most of its new titles over to PS faster. Expensive to develop titles will likely hit day one.

MS has the most bipolar strategy of all time. We will put some of these games on PS but not these. We want to be a third party super power but not really. We are all in on gamepass but we basically are killing our hardware which is where the vast majority of the subs come from.

I have no idea what the hell they are doing over there..

It doesn’t really need to be studied as they simply can’t evaluate games

Have said this a bunch here but when Ybarra and Spencer were given the screening of the very first Halo Infinite trailer (the one that gave us Craig) Ybarra honestly thought they were being punked after all the money and time that was spent and he was ready for the real trailer.

Phil said it looked good and to send it and Ybarra said to him they couldn’t show that and Mike was over ruled and the rest is history
Did Ybarra tell you this before or after Infinite was roundly mocked? Success has many fathers but failure is an orphan.

Starfield has a bad aura and i don't think they can solve it. Worried about TESVI.

Personally, only interested in Flight Simulator

Spencer needs to be fired
That infinite trailer ruined all the hype Xbox got

Great post. Yeah we all have our specific taste in games and gameplay loops and mechanics and art and stories. Subjectivity is driving all the gaming talks. And it’s fine. 👍

No point porting anything unless there is a clear demand. Going by online talk PS fans has made it clear from day 1 that they hate Starfield. Could be warrior noise but how would Bethesda know that? Maybe they send out an online survey some day, make sure to say you’re interested it if that happens. A port require dev resources so it won’t happen unless they see it bring in some money.

I wouldn't go by online discourse, particularly here at GAF, to gauge interest in the tens of millions of casual gamers who comprise the majority of PS's install base. There are plenty of people who would buy Starfield if it came to PS5, especially once it drops to around $40. The audience wouldn't be as big as it would've been had they released it day-and-date, but it's still there. Lots of Bethesda fans on PS5 who'd be happy to give it a shot, especially at discount.

Also, I believe it has been heavily rumored that the Starfield PS5 port has been underway for some time. So I think it's coming; just a matter of time. Maybe after they release the second expansion, then they'll announce a "Game of the Year" edition (someone gave it GOTY, right?) coming to both consoles. Just a guess.
