This is "engagement" 🙅‍♂️💍🙆‍♂️

No shit, the timed exclusivity period was always going to end.

I'll tell you what this is really about, these dudes aren't taking the current news about Xbox releasing their firsty party stuff on playstation well, so are flailing around and trying to divert attention. He did it last week aswell.

If it does get released on Xbox than i hope Xbox gamers buy the game and not just 'play it on gamepass or wait for it to be on gamepass'. If Xbox games want more Square Enix games and more Japanese games on the console then again open your wallets and buy the games.

lol, they really want that money from putting the game on Game Pass. Although Square Enix calls every game launch botched, it really didn't sell well for a game this grand.

It has to be day one going forward. Fuck these timed exclusives, there's no point.
Of course there is a point.
You think game development is free and instantaneous?
They couldn't even release PC version after the 6 months exclusivity and you expect them to do porting, debugging and optimization for 2 more versions (XSX and XSS) in zero time?
It's very nice to romanticize a world of no exclusives and instant ports, but the real world has costs and demands for manpower, so devs must prioritise the versions that will sell more copies first, and Xbox should consider itself lucky that they can't as easily make a switch version.

Someone explain Xbox's strategy to me, because it doesn't make any sense. A 3rd party publisher needs to work on porting a game to the Xbox, which are costs for the publisher. But Xbox gamers aren't buying games, because Gamepass, which means these 3rd party publishers wouldn't see any money from the port. The only solution: Xbox pays these publishers to port the game, so that the Xbox gamers can get it on Gamepass. But the Gamepass user base hasn't grown in years, which means their revenue is also not growing. What's the endgame here?

Square Enix have a 18 months plan. Curious to see if it will go to Xbox and PC the same day, or if it will be PC then Gamepass a few months later?

The developers are getting a hefty sum to give up their game to Gamepass. They ain't doing it for free, probably for a fixed fee that they are comfortable with and Microsoft thinking itll do more in sales later on for them.

Game Pass might not grow so much, but Microsoft still cashes in billions a year through it. They want the game on Game Pass, Square Enix wants money. Win-win.

But the drawback is that MS has to approach Square and negotiate per game before devs even consider making Xbox versions, and this might expand to other devs/publishers as the gap of the install bases increase.

As if you guys are gonna buy it lol.

I don't think it would have sold a tenth of what it did without the hype and shill journalist articles before launch.

What was the word they all used

"Final fantasy xvi is SHOCKING"

Yeah, shockingly bad.

There is no end game Square-Enix doesn't believe in the Xbox platform so they rather get paid extra by Sony for "timed exclusivity" and get paid extra a 2nd time by Xbox to port the game to their system.

It's a very good strategy by Square-Enix to get as much money as possible from the situation when they have the data to backup the fact that these sort of games don't sell on Xbox.

So perhaps soon Xbox gamers can experience this slog too. My advice is, don't buy if its full price. I dropped it eventually, its incredibly boring.

Maybe Square is going to release a version with all DLC and who knows performance upgrade...

..but its Square.

this. the culture of waiting things on gamepass might affect their release priority in future. especially if they wish their game to come on day one.

Square Enix: keeps releasing their games on Xbox years later that on PS, at full price, when the game is available on PS for half the price or less.

The ponyz: "LOL as if anyone is going to buy the game on Xbox anyway!"

They failed to cultivate an audience on Xbox when the brand was strong. People not caring at this point is just cause and effect.

But screw logic. So many gleeful "FF16 flops hard on Xbox" will be made, so many laughing reactions will be given. Another day, another battle in the console war.

Wow, you xbox guys are so lucky to be able to buy this late, and at a higher price than what you can purchase it on PS5 right now, you should be grateful.
wow thank you GIF by Lifetime Telly

Would rather have FF7 volume 2 than this shit. FF16 isnt even a Final Fantasy game its a reskinned DmC cash in aimed at todays zero attention span teenagers

Eh, it's a chicken and egg thing. It's hard to say what went first, people not buying them or Square releasing them later, but it is what it is.

Revenue does not equal profit.

How much profit does Game Pass generate? Not much, if any, since MS doesn't disclose gaming division profit.

Wasn't it known that this and others FF games were a timed exclusive from the start?
From what we know, yes. Now whether square chooses to port stuff to other platforms once the exclusivity ends is a different thing, they've always been quite random with where they port stuff.
