I meant PS5....How's life in your alternative universe? I've been thinking about a change in scenery.
No thanks.
The game's performance wasn't the bad part. It was the terrible pacing. I just couldn't stick with the games ultra lows.If they're going to port it, Series S optimization could mean a better performance mode on Series X.
They haven't patched in a 40hz mode on the PS5 version yet and the performance mode is still shit. 30 FPS is the best way to play the game at the moment.
We have a service that is financially viable, meaning it makes money, in Game Pass. We've put a lot of money into the market, over a billion dollars a year supporting third-party games coming into Game PassSomeone explain Xbox's strategy to me, because it doesn't make any sense. A 3rd party publisher needs to work on porting a game to the Xbox, which are costs for the publisher. But Xbox gamers aren't buying games, because Gamepass, which means these 3rd party publishers wouldn't see any money from the port. The only solution: Xbox pays these publishers to port the game, so that the Xbox gamers can get it on Gamepass. But the Gamepass user base hasn't grown in years, which means their revenue is also not growing. What's the endgame here?
Why would SE waste their time and money on this?
FF13 sold worse on X360 than PS3. FF15 sold worse on XBO than PS4. Crisis Core FF7 Reunion sold worst on Xbox platforms compared to PlayStation and Switch (and it was a significant margin between them).
Those are just Final Fantasy titles. If we expand to other SE published titles, a pattern clearly emerges. Outriders, Guardians of the Galaxy, Octopath Traveler: All sold poorly on Xbox and were Game Pass fodder.
The only way I can see SE doing this is if they already have a guarantee from Microsoft that they'll get a massive check to put the games on Game Pass. Because there's no way they'd ever recover enough money in sales to justify the expense of porting the games.
Source for that?Since it has underperformed, of course Square will try everything to milk more profit out of it.
Of course they would try to maximise profits but if it underperformed why do you believe they would double down on developing the game again for an under-performing platform? I don't understand why when SE have said it met expectations multiple times in investor meetings people try to say it underperformed. When they say some other game like TR didn't meet expectations people try to say they had too high expectations. Is it cool to always contradict what's been said?Since it has underperformed, of course Square will try everything to milk more profit out of it.
You know, Ellie, we really are the Final Fantasy.this is the Final, fantasy![]()
Not in the general sense, but Square has said multiple times it didn't met their (too high) expectations.Source for that?
They make a PC port anyway, porting it to XBOX then is not that hard, so even if the XBOX install base is not so big, it makes sense.Of course they would try to maximise profits but if it underperformed why do you believe they would double down on developing the game again for an under-performing platform?
You're probably confused with a tomb raider game, SE has reiterated many times that FF16 met their expectations.but Square has said multiple times it didn't met their (too high) expectations.
Hey, will a Neogaf thread work as a reference? Not in the general sense, but Square has said multiple times it didn't met their (too high) expectations.
Epic probably saw the numbers from FF7R and said it wasn't worth it.Yep, and this way they get paid twice.
Maybe even 3 times if Epic throw some money their way as well.
At least we'll be getting Octopath Traveler II this year!My sincerest sympathies for Xbox owners
I definitely agree about their lower tier output. Triangle Strategy, Live-A-Live, SO2remake, Bravely Default II, Diofield Chronicle, the Mana games are all quite good. I too bought Little Goody Two Shoes which is beautiful, can't wait to see what the team draws up next. I need more of those sweet filters in my life.I'll be buying Dragon's Dogma 2 and playing Persona 3 on GP. I'm strongly considering buying Metaphor. Getting Yakuza on sale for sure.
Not sure I have room for a 5th JRPG this year, especially a subpar one. The demo was hot shit and a huge let down. I have a PS5 and didnt want it then.
Mana looks better. Most of their AA stuff is better. I'm sure none of you guys bought Little Goody Two Shoes, but I did.
Now that's an amazing game. Y'all better buy it!At least we'll be getting Octopath Traveler II this year!
Square just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXVI for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE.
You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.
Square, publicly apologize and cancel FFXVI for Xbox or you can kiss your business goodbye.
The point was that they wouldn't do a late port of a game on a lower install base machine had it been a poor seller that cost them money when it was newly released on a popular system. Not in the general sense, but Square has said multiple times it didn't met their (too high) expectations.
They make a PC port anyway, porting it to XBOX then is not that hard, so even if the XBOX install base is not so big, it makes sense.
You guys can have it. Game was mid as hell. Enjoy it.
If they're going to port it, Series S optimization could mean a better performance mode on Series X.

I played performance mode. Couldn't stand 30fps don't care what the guys at DF say. My eyes said stop doing this to me.
Agreed. Before I went to pc ganging I couldn't even tell the difference I thought 30fps was fine. Now it hurts my eyes. Sometimes I can get used to it depends on the game.these types of things are inherently subjective... to some people it will be fine while some others will view it as complete crap. it's all a matter of opinion.
Its not a waste of their money. That should be obvious, the same way how this whole thread is just stating the obvious. Nothing surprising about the game coming to the Xbox. Why would SE waste their time and money on this?

Imagine buying a PS5 for that game, of all thingsKeep hoping, Xbros!
Or it's easier you buy a PS5 to enjoy the taste of FFXVI.![]()
But Xbox gamers aren't buying games, because Gamepass,
I think you have to pick one criticism per post or it undermines the argument.the Gamepass user base hasn't grown in years
Are there Xbox weebs?Microsoft doing everything right just now. Well done Phil. Keep up the trips to Japan. I'm sure this will please many Xbox weebs.
Presuming there is still an Xbox console by the time FFXVII comes out, maybe. It has to be day one going forward. Fuck these timed exclusives, there's no point.
I bought it.Imagine buying a PS5 for that game, of all things
Its not a waste of their money. That should be obvious, the same way how this whole thread is just stating the obvious. Nothing surprising about the game coming to the Xbox.
I figured it would make it to the Xbox the second they confirmed they would bring it to PC. If you are making a PC version, you might as well make an Xbox version. And I don't know what you mean by justify in sales, a port of the his game to PC and Xbox is not going to cost them 10s of millions to do. Probably can be wrapped up with under $5M, they game is already "made".... you can't say that between the PC and Xbox they don't get at least 1M in sales.
It has to be day one going forward. Fuck these timed exclusives, there's no point.
Yes, keep it exclusive to Playstation until MS shells out that Game Pass money. Smart.
Hoping its straight to Gamepass![]()
You are aware that in addition to $$$ and marketing, Sony also helped to develop the game?

Final Fantasy XVI PS5 Exclusive Because Sony Co-Developed The Game and Can Better Market It
Why is Square Enix giving Sony the gift of a PS5-exclusive Final Fantasy XVI? Partly because Sony helped make the game.wccftech.com
Only when PlayStation does them, amirite?
Also Nick is the fakest insider I've ever seen in my life. The "source" for Visions of Mana on Xbox were Square-Enix themselves, in their December 7th press release for the game that literally mentioned Xbox Series alongside the other platforms.
But the fake "source" probably assumed most gamers can't read, so they ran with pretending they had secret insider info...that was on a publicly-available webpage...before the game was even shown off at the VGAs.
That's true gaming right there.
And if they shell out that Game Pass money Day 1? What then?
Just one less exclusive for PlayStation platforms, and likely one less reason to buy a PS5 Pro if you know the game's on PC since you can always get better performance there (if you're willing to pay for it). Apparently that makes gaming more "pro-consumer" or something, the gawkers tell me.
Use the PS base as early paypigs, give it to Xbox players for "free" with improved performance and extra content.
I mean Sony have already set this into motion themselves with PC getting HFW & Burning Shores with more perf options over console & a cheaper price for both. Only makes sense 3P would follow suit.
/s
No you don't get it. Sony Bad, okay? They're the big bad, evil megaconglomerate destroying gaming with anti-consumer exclusivity of 5% of Japanese games in existence even though the other 95% release on other platforms usually Day 1. But Sony are still completely evil and corrupt for those 5% they have exclusive. Total monopoly of the industry there.
It won't be fair until every 3P game and every 1P game is on all platforms so more people can play on Xbox and Nintendo which are still allowed to have tons of 1P and 3P exclusives because this is payback for PS1 & PS2.
And SEGAAAAA!!!
