"Gamepass userbase isn't growing, but the same growing playerbase that isn't subscribing to GamePass aren't buying games because of the same subscription service they aren't on"

From the 2023 European sales report, they aren't buying too many games. XBS is behind the PS4 in software sales which is hilarious.

2 factors that might come into play with this bad results. The extremely tiny Xbox user base and Game pass which changes the consumers purchasing habits of waiting to play the games on Game pass instead of buying them.

Could you please explain your case if you think differently?

Physical games media, though.
We've seen from the UK that Xbox Series gamers tend to skew digital much more than any console, especially when you factor in the all digital Series S. Also the very small user base outside the UK.

This discussion on game purchase habits talks about owner behavior, so using a measure that is heavily influenced by the number of console sales doesn't really make sense. At all.

"In terms of platforms, PC was No.1 in terms of game sales, ahead of PS5 (No.2), Switch (No.3), PS4 (No.4) and Xbox Series S and X (No.5)"

Its not physical media. It's from the source of the data. How can it be physical if PC is number 1 in software sales?

The data is for both digital and physical. So can you make some sense into why the PS4 sells more software than Xbox.?

The Gamesradar link you dropped claimed insinuated it was Physical games.

More PS4 games were sold in Europe in 2023 than Xbox Series X games.

That's according to sales data from GSD (via GamesIndustry.biz), which reports physical media sales across major European markets. In total, more PS4 games were sold throughout the whole of 2023 than games for the Xbox Series X console were sold in the same period.

I had to click through to the GI.biz page to see it was across all formats.

But my second point still stands. This is heavily skewed by the userbase, and hence does not work as a representation of purchasing habits of individual console owners.

You guys can have it. Game was mid as hell. Enjoy it.

I don't think it would have sold a tenth of what it did without the hype and shill journalist articles before launch.

What was the word they all used

"Final fantasy xvi is SHOCKING"

Yeah, shockingly bad.

Mid is an overstatement. What a mess of a game.

Great visuals, amazing and best set pieces ever, fun combat, stellar soundtrack, compelling well thought out world and lore, epic complete story in one game, endearing characters without tropes,

I guess we need more mid shockingly bad games then. 😳😉

I read the same comments and thinking wtf are people expecting out of games nowadays. FF16 had it all. Great package overall.

I'll be buying Dragon's Dogma 2 and playing Persona 3 on GP. I'm strongly considering buying Metaphor. Getting Yakuza on sale for sure.

Not sure I have room for a 5th JRPG this year, especially a subpar one. The demo was hot shit and a huge let down. I have a PS5 and didnt want it then.

Mana looks better. Most of their AA stuff is better. I'm sure none of you guys bought Little Goody Two Shoes, but I did.

It did have many bad/disappointing things going on, but at least for me the positives far outweigh the negatives. The worst part of the game is the side content which you can totally skip, so it's honesty not too bad. Whenever you are one on one with a boss, the game is pure crack and it really, really likes to throw bosses your way.

I'm betting this won't be on Gamepass.

Reasons: its not out on PC yet and making it cost on that whilst not on Xbox wouldn't be a good look. The new Mana game also isn't on Gamepass. Your typical Xbox player is probably more drawn to 16 then lets say 7R. If 7R comes to Xbox then I think part 1 will at least be on gamepass considering its on PS+.

If it does get released on Xbox than i hope Xbox gamers buy the game and not just 'play it on gamepass or wait for it to be on gamepass'. If Xbox games want more Square Enix games and more Japanese games on the console then again open your wallets and buy the games.
I don't expect it to do well on xbox tbh

The source is sketchy, the Developer Direct was pre-recorded and also uploaded to YouTube a few days before. There's plenty of people that could have had access to that video so using "He knew Vision of Mana was gonna be there" doesn't speak volumes for his credibility.

Someone explain Xbox's strategy to me, because it doesn't make any sense. A 3rd party publisher needs to work on porting a game to the Xbox, which are costs for the publisher. But Xbox gamers aren't buying games, because Gamepass, which means these 3rd party publishers wouldn't see any money from the port. The only solution: Xbox pays these publishers to port the game, so that the Xbox gamers can get it on Gamepass. But the Gamepass user base hasn't grown in years, which means their revenue is also not growing. What's the endgame here?
They want growth of course. But they have customers paying every single month. It's a constant cycle of new content demands.

Just as in a month or two after FF, there will need to be another round of games. FF won't keep subs forever.

Not really anything new. They ported Nier Automota pretty late to the Xbone. Though at the time it was basically a GotY edition and was only $40 or $50 (I forget), so I was happy getting it day one.

If they do something similar here I'd be interested, but I won't be if it's $70 base game.

IMO their strategy is to keep buying time.

Isn't this a speshal nick rumor...

Why is anyone even pretending it's remotely anything with that clown being the source.

Stop giving these tools attention they have absolutely 0 info on anything

Its a bit weird for Xbox to be negotiating to get the game onto GP. Dont they normally just buy the entire publisher?

Eh, but FF XVI isn't particularly good. Personally I don't get it on PS so staking SE participation on FFXVI is a bit facetious.

Microsoft needs to at least get every main entry (= numbered entry) in the series. I never doubted that FF VII and XVI would eventually make it. Can't say I am interested by XVI and VII part 1 though. VII part II looks much better however.

Yikes. The game was only playable in fidelity mode IMO.

I can't imagine the issues to make this work in a series S. The S stands for shit.
