Someone on Reddit made a 30fps vs 60fps site.

These are some gifs from http://hiresreset.tumblr.com/post/47287084062/space-left-intentionally-blank

Its pretty obvious which is which here.

I honestly preferred the 30fps versions, when placed side-by-side like that. In such a direct comparison 30fps just makes the action look like it was captured on film rather than video.

The 60fps versions remind me why I never turn on the 100hz tech in my TV for movies and why I disliked watching The Hobbit in 48fps HDR: At 48fps Hobbit movies looked like they are being 'videoed on a set' rather than 'filmed on location'.

60fps is probably best for things that need to look 'live', ex. sports games.

Dat cinematic feel.

I actually do know what you mean, but playing in 60fps is a lot different from watching in 60fps. I've seen the life of 60+ fps and it is good.

The look of it isn't even what matters, it's the feel, the responsiveness is massively improved. I can deal with lower frame rates when I have to, no problem, but give me any option to get 60 and I'll leap at it.

There is no genre restriction to where I want 60 FPS, it even makes menus feel great by comparison.

Found that this site is compatible with a mobile devices and tablets as well as PCs

EDIT: apologies for the incorrectly written link, fixed now.
That's a fantastic website, thanks for posting! *bookmarked*
Should be in the OP, it's the perfect showcase for lots of issues with low framerates since it can be tweeked so much.

I think it might be more accurate to say that the processing your brain does on 30fps footage makes 60fps footage look cartoonish or sped up. Because 60fps looks fine once you acclimate. 60 to 120 has a similar acclimation period. It's an interesting phenomenon and I wonder what the explanation is.

I think that's it. I play Call of Duty embarrassingly much and am used to 60fps in shooters. After an hour of play and going to another shooter that's at 30fps, I can feel a difference in smoothness. I mean I can see the difference here on the site as well.

I think it's also because what I see on TV like races and such doesn't seem like it's broadcasted in 60fps, so when I see racing games being that smooth, it looks like it's unnaturally too smooth at times. It's because I'm used to seeing lower fps in other media, I think.

Still, I'd rather have the higher fps in games. It feels more fluid and responsive, but I don't necessarily feel that it looks more "realistic".

The difference isn't huge, but it's enough that I care.

It really depends on the game. For racing and shooters it's a must to get close to 60 FPS.

Its pretty obvious which is which here.

I made those and honestly wasn't happy with the examples.

I made MUCH better comparisons here and here using examples of many different genres.

Even then, I think the F-Zero WebM posted here and the Dark Souls II one I just did are better examples still.

I did always like these ones though.

Ok I've looked at all the examples in this thread so far and I genuinely can't see the difference.

They look exactly the same to me, I think it's my browser..

Those are old bad examples I made a while ago. Ignore them and look at the F-Zero or Dark Souls II ones I did - they're much better.

Awful example, they are exactly the same,at least on Chrome. The examples given by the OP are good, it is easy to see the difference there.

Absolutely not exactly the same and it would be literally impossible for them to be exactly the same as one has exactly twice as many frames as the other and they always update in sync.

It's just a bad example because it's really swift movements on a black background. I can still see the difference, but it's a bad showcasing of it.

Try the testufo.com examples, set your screen brightness to maximum and sit close to the screen. You should be able to see it then.
Thanks that worked! But going through all that just to see it makes me think I'd have no chance in a real game. Glad I'm not as sensitive to the difference as some of you guys.

I think there's one way to explain this...

Go play Injustice: Gods Among Us on PS3/X360/WiiU. If anyone can honestly tell me they can't see a difference when it quite obviously occurs, I dunno what to tell them.

The above GIF is a good example, as well. Without 60FPS, F-Zero GX would be an unplayable mess of a game.

Holy hell seriously? it must be chrome then, but i doubt it.
Im on waterfox, and it leaps out which one is 60fps because its seriously smoother
and the 30fps were jittery as hell.

and my laptop is hilariously weak also, acer cheap and nasty.

Download Dark Souls 1 on PC. Use DSFix. Enable FPS Unlocker and set to 60. Toggle FPS Unlocker in-game on and off a few times. HUGE fucking difference. Simple.

These truly are amazing, hats off.

It's both 30fps is jarringly unsmooth in certain instances especially motion. Various people have already pointed out a site that with firefox or chrome can easily show it in a range of various tests. Once you consider low pixel persistence at 120hz or 144hz, 30fps looks even worse.

Also if you can't see the difference you might not have the eyes for it, doesn't mean it's not there when people use high fps cameras to capture such differences.

The Fzero gif clearly shows off the unsmoothness of the motion.

Tried this on IEX, I would lie to you if I said I noted any difference, I think the back ground doesn't do any justice to the comparison. The ones on the left are 60fps?

i can see the difference, but i must say, since i'm so used to 30fps console games,I find the 60 fps kinda strange and looking unnatural

Especially the racers look like slideshows in 30fps after 60fps.

With the drops and input lag I never got comfortable driving in GTA 5. Really hoping it gets a PC release soon.

Here's another way to explain it.

Go watch several videos online of a game you know is 60fps. Then IMMEDIATELY go play one.

People have often remarked that videos on the internet don't accurately portray the in-game look. it's why some people say a game looks "shit" but later retract their statements after they've PLAYED it. They see the difference, but yet they don't see it at the same time.

that's crazy that there are some of you who can't see the difference.... it only took me a second to see the differences between them and 60fps win everytime.

here's some advice... focus more on the environment rather than the focal point.... so if your watching the racing clips... focus on the backgrounds instead of the car.

then you'll see why 60fps is clearly superior

1080p / 60fps future for me

every gen since the ps2 we've been stuck with 30fps for most titles

480i/p w/ 30fps

then last gen is was 720p / 30fps

now they're touting all this power and games are coming out at 720p / 1080p / 30fps???

f*** that!

I can never see much of a difference in these side by side comparisons, someone needs to make one where they take one video feed, split it so that one half is 30fps and the other is 60fps, so you can actually see what the difference is.

imo even if you can or cannot see the difference video/gifs don't really demonstrate how much better 60fps is.

You need to play it, to feel it to really get it.

There's a huge difference. I didn't notice until I played the Madden 2008 demo on the 360 then went and picked up the PS3 version. I took the game back right away.
