What on earth, I don't even have enough VRAM left.o_O

smh at all the people that have been preaching 2GB was enough for all the people putting PC's together the past 6 months or so.

How do I start the online tailing/invasion missions? It says I need to do an introductory mission but I don't see it anywhere in my map. When does this mission become available?

Usage at 4K with 4xTXAA is ~5.6GB. Without hardware AA it's about 5GB.

This is actually genuinely upsetting. From an enthusiast standpoint this just screams half assed "let's let those PC guys just buy insane HW to run our game well" type of mentality. I never really jump on the wagon of criticisms over stuff like this but this is really unacceptable to me. This could be programmed so much more efficiently and it's absolutely pathetic that it eats up so much VRAM.

Wow! Glad I went with 4gb 770sli put that 7000mhz (8000OC!) 256 bus to work.

How well does a Nvidia 3D Vision work with this? Do you know if it will be improved to "excellent rating" instead of current "good" in 337.88?

edit: What kinda gpu setup would it take to get 60fps ultra 2xmsaa 1080p 3D? Thanks

The Inside Track
Hopefully someone uploads a 1080p+/60fps video onto Gamersyde or mega. :D

We'll have 30 videos up tomorrow at the end of embargo (9AM CEST, in a bit less than 12 hours), 11 PS4, everything else PC (We did not get a Xbox one version for review). We tried to get to 60 fps ultra, but sadly none of us have powerful enough rigs to do that (mostly video ram issues, as most other people), so it's going to be a mix of various configs.
My own PC manages between 40 and 50 fps at all times with triple buffering with ultra everywhere (i7 4820K OC @4.4, 770OC 4GB GDDR5), but I didn't have time to do captures myself since I was encoding the PS4 videos...

This whole performance fiasco has me considering upgrading my PC much sooner than I anticipated. I have a GTX 690 and it seems like that will definitely not be sufficient to play this game at my usual settings. I generally aim for ~60 FPS at 2560x1600 in all the games I play.

Not sure what I'll do for Watch_Dogs now. I don't want to compromise on my preferred resolution but on the other hand it seems that people are having trouble maintaining 60 FPS in standard 1080p. Seems like I'm screwed unless there is a patch and driver update on the way that massively improves SLI performance.

Looks like I'll be buying a 6gb sGPU in the near future either way.

So I just recently had a friend help me build a pc in March. I am still not familiar with what stuff is considered good in the PC world. I have been told that my CPU is complete trash, and my graphics card is leaving the market quickly because its already outdated. Not sure if those people were being honest or not, it wasnt here where people said it. How far am I from maxing this game

Uh why do you say that. Consoles are locked to 900p and 30 fps at what will be at best equivalent to high settings. 4k with lots of antialiasing better be demanding unless they didn't make textures for 4k resolutions.

I imagine for optimal ports they would've been right, but it can be naive to expect that much out of some of these developers. Even ones with PC roots like Volition can have some of the worst PC ports out there (though admittedly in that case SR2 wasn't done in house, but you may've still expected better.)

Though I still think that you'd end up tempted to want to go crazy and not be satisfied with "matching consoles" anyway.

You'll get to that part once you're about to do the first mission for the asian dude, you'll get hacked and then will be able to start online hacking yourself.

What a thread. Maybe W_D is the hero we need so nVidia will finally not gimp the VRAM on it- oh hi Andy nice guide you have there, much appreciated.

Glad to hear Blim is getting some videos up.

Not even getting 60fps is poop for this game, but this has been the most entertaining launch in a while.

Just need Intel vs AMD and 4 vs 8 thread benches to round it all up.

My specs:

Phenom IIx4 at 4ghz
GTX670 2GB
4GB DDR2 ram

OK so right of the bat, the game makes no sense. The main dude starts off in a hallway with dead bodies everywhere. Wtf?!? Is this a dream?? No start menu or options or even Dev/publisher screens. Just, there you fucking are.

Also you hear every stupid thing he thinks. And most of it again, makes no sense given the context of what's happening. I did find the reference shout out to GTA V rather funny though, good job Ubisoft for recognizing the pioneers of the genre.

The gfx were fine if a bit blurry and sometimes pixelated. Also, no matter what I did, the game was also running at 30fps.

Good? Bad? Who the hell knows.

I stopped a few minutes in because it kept pausing and buffering. So until Google fixes their shit, that's all I got for you guys.

Edit: Shit shit shit mods want proof.

Here ya go. Phew.

So just downloaded/installed via uplay after receiving my key today, not played as of yet, just had a look at the graphics options and it auto set everything to high. so I have bumped up to Ultra except for shadows and put HBAO on low. Hoping it holds out ok.

The standards are higher on PC and this reminds me of Skyrim's memory situation but it's hogging it all up opposed to Skyrim not being able to access more. This seems badly un-optimized in that front. Of course this game is doing some new things but that one video comparing it to GTA4 is a little resounding when you look at how weak WD looks in some areas vs even an old game like that.

youtube video impression

His impressions came from watching a youtube playthrough? He seems to have edited his post with a video for some reason.

Sorry but that won't cut it. Besides, I'm not interesting in the story/impressions talk in this tech thread.

I have a FX 8350 and everything else the same. Just change AA to temp smaa, shadows high, and HBAO +High. You should be fine. Also download the new Nvidia drivers.

How do we know that you weren't the one who uploaded that video and are using this intermediary as a way around the rule?

My eyes hate 3D so I haven't used it for years. The people who take care of that are always looking for ways to improve the rating, and there's a few modders out there who make custom profiles too. As for perf requirements, general rule of thumb is just double the 2D requirement unless the game has a special 3D routine like CryEngiine (IIRC, their perf is about 1.5x, rather than 2x).

Use SMAA. I'm running Ultra w/SMAA @4K and max usage in 3000MB

Use Temporal SMAA. Bit slower, but far better as it hits temporal aliasing.

Your CPU is fairly weak: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-3350P+@+3.10GHz (PassMark is by no means the perfect site/benchmark, but it's relative speed indication is usually ok). For reference, the i7-2600K is over 3 years old.

Your GPU, however, is fine. It is not leaving the market, and is less than a year old. RAM and OS is fine, also.

In something like Watch Dogs that CPU will drag you down a fair bit, but it's hard to say by how much exactly.

I wonder what Batman AO's vram usage was at 4K with TXAA High. Probably pretty high.

3-4GB at 3840x2160 with TXAA High and all other options maxed out, if memory serves me right.

That's entirely dependant on the game and scenario though. For watch dogs it doesn't hold true at all, especially if you have 2 4gb 760s in sli.

All the theories of x card isn't powerful enough to use y amount of ram were nothing but that - theories. The fact is that in the long run the higher VRAM cards are proving to be a better investment.
Actually, this is supported by solid evidence.

Do you have any evidence that a 4gb 670/760/770 performs noticeably better than their 2gb counterparts? You claim its fact, but nobody has provided any evidence of this 'fact' whatsoever.
