Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I would assume that if they're running Wii games directly on the Wii U now, GCN can't be far off.

This... This is a huge step up. These are Wii games running in Wii U mode versus previously Wii games running in Wii mode on a Wii U. Since it's basically identical to how gamecube games run, I fully expect that in a future direct they'll start announcing Gamecube titles as well as more Wii titles.

It sucks that we still haven't seen anything on the N64 front, but I'll take GCN and Wii titles over N64 priority wise.

I'll definitely get Metroid Prime Trilogy. Beyond that, I'm not sure. I can't think of many major Wii games I missed out on. It's great that these are available.

Now if only they could put digital DS games on the 3DS...

I totally missed the fact that the games cost only 10€ right now.

Sadly, 20€ for a Wii game is a tad bit too expensive for my taste. I mean, it depends on the game of course, but actually, if I didn't already have it, I wouldn't pay 20€ for Punch-Out...

Well screw this crap.

All I wanted was Metroid Prime trilogy and SMG games with 1080p/60fps.

If they can't do the simplest fucking thing like uprezing the resolution to HD then Nintendo just absolutely deserves to not get my business and deserves to get destroyed by Microsoft and Sony.

Looks like I won't be joining the WiiU crowd. I was ready to bust out the credit card and purchase one.

Lol I don't think anyone cares dude.

Anyways this is sweet! I hope they patch in the ability to use gamepad controls for prime 3 and Galaxy 2

is this one happening for all wii bc? that's what it sounded like. it's all i need.

This is the question of the day. Because if this happens, perhaps Nintendont with a gamepad as a controller...just god damn, I don't think my dick could get any harder than at the thought of that.

So is this guy being serious? It reads like a parody post, but I can't be sure.

Woah, they're going to be $10? Part of me thought they'd be $60 initially once Nintendo announced the half off deal lol

Only $9.99!?

Here is the press release tidbit about it:

Wii Games Coming to Wii U: Starting today, players can purchase and download Wii games directly to their Wii U HOME Menus via the Nintendo eShop on Wii U – no need to access Wii Mode. The first game that is now available is Super Mario Galaxy 2. The future lineup includes Punch-Out!! (Jan. 22) and Metroid Prime: Trilogy (Jan. 29). The Wii U GamePad can be used to control Wii games that were compatible with the Wii Classic Controller. The games will be on sale for an introductory price of $9.99 each during their first week of availability, and $19.99 after.

Curious that they're starting with Super Mario Galaxy 2. I suspect they might be working on a HD remake of the first game behind the scenes, kind of like how they handled Wind Waker.

Prices are good, but no HD makes the service unappealing, just because my beefy computer handles Dolphin well. Prime Trilogy is the only temptation because it's a bit busted in Dolphin. Otherwise I'll pass.

Huh? You'll play it on your TV. But yeah, it's just like having a Wii. Only it's a Wii U.
They can get the gamepad to function as a classic controller. Therefore a wii remote/nunchuck should be remappable to the gamepad, minus the pointer (and maybe some minor changes to compensate for left-side/right-side waggle). Maybe the US stream was just more confusing than the Euro one, as they were talking about the classic controller but IIRC none of the 3 launch window titles supported it (only DK which wasn't mentioned here).
Really an insignificant software patch for each Wii game released to U to support the classic controller would solve all of this noise.

Well I guess now's as good as any time to play the Prime series. Is it Gamepad compatible or do I have to use the Wiimote+Nunchuck, not that I don't mind.

Wow Metroid Prime Trilogy right away!

Such an awesome choice!!

But storage space and purchases tied to console but not account is still super lame.

Some people are dismissing these great game because they weren't upscaled/remastered? K. I'm going to play them again and enjoy them.

Metroid Prime Trilogy would need a significant overhaul to support the Classic Controller, Prime 3 especially. Might as well just make an HD remaster at that point.

Just amazing the amount of complaints there are for them not upscaling these games and selling them for that price. You do know how much the Prime trilogy goes for right? Or that SMG2/DKCR still sell for 40-60 retail? Yet a lot of you are expecting hd rereleases for a fraction of the cost that the originals still sell for?

Lucky enough to even get these things for half off for a week considering it's either you pay the download price, let alone them being at least half off the retail price to begin with. These of some of the best games the Wii had to offer and there will surely be more to add to it, yet so many of you seem to only care about the graphics when gameplay has always come first for Nintendo.
