Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I do not know why, out of all the problems with nintendo today (mostly new 3ds release related), that the fact they did not update the N.A. store yet so i can buy this is bugging the heck out of me...

Ok cool thanks.

Yeah I have the sensor bar on my center screen so that'S perfect.

I still wish there was a toslink out so that way I could pipe in the WiiU in my whole sound setup and play with my wireless headphones.

You could get an analog->optical converter...

#1: because more are already planned that will.

#2: No, at least not yet. Here's hoping they eventually move the Wii disc channel to the Wii U menu and launch all games this way. Off screen Wii games that can actually use the gamepad would be amazing (Rune Factory Frontier pleaaase!)

Yeah it would be great to play Xenoblade with Gamepad only in bed, that's basically what I'm looking to get out this.

For someone who missed out on Punch Out, Sin and Punishment and the Metroid trilogy this deal is amazing.

I would love to see a Xenoblade port but considering there pushing it as a new 3ds exclusive I doubt its gonna happen :/

So if they appear on the Wii U Menu, does that mean they don't use the "Wii Mode"?

They run natively in Wii U mode according to the direct, this is why the Gamepad will be compatible with Pro Controller Wii games. This leaves room for other enhancements too like Miiverse if they wanted. Not sure if it's included in these first batch.

it boots directly into the game in wiimode without you having to boot up wiimode first.

Not true. Wii mode can not access the gamepad controls OR run off of internal or external storage.

I think the correct course of action for me is to buy Metroid as soon as it's available. I've never played a 'modern' Metroid game and it sounds like I might be in for a treat.

Likely going to get Punch-Out if it's coming out in the US this month. Going to get some more milage out of the Wii Fit U bundle I bought last week.

I play it that way.

Let me warn you that, if you're not used to exercise (like lazy me), you'll get tired very fast.
But otherwise it's very good for your health, and it really feels like you're in the ring! :)

This is good news for the rare Wii games like Metroid Prime Trilogy (which I own, but will now sell, as it's worth a lot), but doesn't seem worth it to me for most other Wii games. You can get physical copies of most Wii games for less than £18, and some for even less than £9 (Punch-Out Wii in particular can be picked up for pocket change).

I'd rather that had done this for Gamecube games. Not only are there far more noteworthy Gamecube games that cost a lot to buy used, but the Wii U can't already play Gamecube games.

Is there any reason to get these if I already own them all on disc, other than convenience?

Is there any chance that my save games from the Wii versions will work on these?

Can anyone confirm if Gamepad support for Wii games is ONLY for the newly ported Wii titles available on the WiiU eShop? Or is it for all Wii titles playable on the WiiU (disc or otherwise)?

I know they only said classic controller games can use the gamepad, but I wonder if games like NSMBWii and Excitetruck will be able to use it too. There's a healthy chunk of games that use only the wii remote sideways.

Man, I'm probably going to buy every single one of these games. Especially at those prices. The only one I'm iffy about is Kirby, because I already own it but...mmm, I like digital.

I played it taht way too! Man, how much I loved that game!

When playing a Wii game, hitting Home still does the "Yo you're in Wii mode" thing. When you quit the game, it reboots the entire system.

I think they

1) Found a way to get Wii mode to interact with the gamepad
2) Found a way to boot into Wii mode from specific Wii U apps

Not true. Wii mode can not access the gamepad controls OR run off of internal or external storage.

From earlier in this thread:

Just read a tweet saying booting the game DOES take it to Wii mode and pushing the home button does the same as if playing off the disc. That is a little disappointing that you can't access Miiverse while playing these.

So apparently it's Wii mode and Nintendo has just found a way to hack in Wii U storage/controller support in Wii mode.

As stated several times in the thread, it's only for the downloadable versions.

Hopefully we get Xenoblade sometime this summer/later in the year. I know they won't announce it when the 3DS version is coming, but I'm still holding up hope for it being downloadable in the future once the new 3DS hype has transitioned to other games.

Hmmm, they were able to do this without a system update that modifies the vWii? That's surprising, especially given the Gamepad control support (on whatever games that eventually use it).

Given my vWii is softmodded I'm a little cautious about this.

Dolphin just became more important. It's stunning that they aren't releasing these games in native Wii U versions with higher res rendering, as the non-HUD assets would need no replacement whatsoever, they look amazing in HD. I'm super disappointed with this news.

I hope Xenoblade 3DS doesn't ruke out a digital Wii rerelease, even if it's a year or more down the line. Europe getting DKCR despite the 3DS version being a thing gives me hope.

i've been eyeing up the trilogy for a while, but it's so pricey. great news!

kirby's adventure had got pretty high too. excited to try that.

i hope for xenoblade too but i guess the full price n3ds port will delay that

Galaxy 2 doesn't support GamePad controls, does it? Would love to play that game in bed, but Wiimote & Nunchuk aren't a particularly great fit for that.

You could get an analog->optical converter...

Wait....totally forgot there's an analog out hahaha.

I could simply use that for my setup. Even simpler than using Toslink.

I assume the audio can come out both HDMI and Analog at the same time? Or at least set it up to have video through hdmi and audio through analog?

I think this is a great news, but having all the worthy Wii games, and not being able to play them on/with the Gamepad (the only pad I lay around in this very moment at home) I'm not interested. I could buy one "just to test" the service, but I can decide which one.

The "Home menu" that comes up in a Wii game is actually hard coded into every Wii game! The Wii actually has no OS, unlike Wii U, the main menu that you see in the Wii is essentially its own game, not a true OS.

MPT for $10?!?!?! $10?!?!!

I'm really curious to see how these will play without wiimotes (as I don't have any). I don't think I can pass up MPT.

I wish they were re-released at retail. I'm not buying anything digital from Nintendo after being burned before by hardware tied accounts.
