Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I am fine with this as I did not play a lot of games for the Wii. I am glad the saves carry over to the digital version. I do hope they release Xenoblade before X comes out though.

For those who already have Super Mario Galaxy 2 on eShop : Is it possible to use Game Pad's sensor bar ? I heard that it only works in Wii Mode.

I've seen a video of someone playing off screen with gamepad and sensor bar on gamepad is active.

OK I never said it would be "simple" ;) I said... How hard would it be?.. meaning how hard would it be to have a very small team work on the emulation of these titles.. even if it was just 720p with gamepad control option added it would result in much more interest, buzz and sales IMO. I would be really surprised if the Wii U couldn't handle it, especially if they chose specific games that would perform well.
It's not simple at all. These games are built to run on a Wii, hence why the system boots into Wii Mode to run them. They cannot run at all in Wii U mode; there's literally a Wii's hardware built into the Wii U. Said hardware cannot produce resolution higher than 480p. They would have to recode the entire game to run it on the Wii U processor. Which is why games like Wind Waker HD and The Last of Us Remastered are full price, they are a major challenge.

So if I buy a WiiU and MP:Trilogy I can't play it at all unless I buy an expensive wiimote (never owned a Wii)?

Yeah fuck that noise.

I would pay 60 bux for a 1080p/60FPS Gamepad supported Metroid. Mario Galaxy pack too. You hear me Nintendo.

What were the biggest games that were compatible with the classic controller?

Funny enough, Xenoblade, which is probably not coming anytime soon with the impending release of the 3DS port.

Mario Kart Wii is another one, but I'm not sure how quickly they would want to throw that up with MK8 continuing to sell as well as it has. Similar situation for SSBB.

Free PC software can immediately upscale the resolution on Wii games to HD but the Wii U cannot? Come on Nintendo. That would have been the real Megaton.

These games are not running through an emulator. This is the reason why Wii games on the Wii U have perfect compatibility and no additional glitches.

As others have said, it's also funny that Sony threads are not full of people saying Sony is lazy for not making every PS1 classic 1080p 60fps. Funny enough, PS1 and 2 classics do run on emulators, but the focus is on compatibility and insuring the game performs correctly.

Funny enough the point of Metroid Prime Trilogy was to update the original two games with superior IR aiming. So playing with a wii remote is the preferred method.

Did MP Trilogy not support the Classic Controller?

I'm in US here but I'm sure it'll come soon so two questions:

Does Kirby's Return to Dream Land, S&P2, and Pandora's Tower support classic controller? Wanna play these with gamepad. (Let's add in The Last Story as well since I also need to play that.)

Well I guess Kirby doesn't matter that much since WiiMote only isn't too bad from previous experiences...

And two: Its only the first three games that are on sale for a week right? The wording kinda made it sound like all games but that would be too good to be true and its NOA lol.

Kirby - no, use homebrew with cheats to enable CC.
S&P2 - yes
Pandora's Tower - yes

Can someone make a definitive list that says if a game is playable fully on gamepad or wiimote only please. Much love.

This could actually be useful in the long run for games NoA passed on.

I'm sure they could release Fatal Frame 2: Wii edition, Disaster Day of Crisis (which isn't all that great tbh) and Another Code R on the eShop.

Edit: And SMG2 and Metroid Prime Trilogy for 10 bucks each is an absolute steal. Even in 480p.

Just curious as I'm having trouble recalling any major ones. Someone above mentioned Xenoblade; that's one. The idea of playing Wii games on the game pad excites me for some reason so I was just wondering which games I'll be able to do that with.

Well personally, I would love to play my Operation Rainfall games (Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower) on the gamepad. They all support the classic controller.

Wii Fire Emblem games? :(

Does anyone know if it recognises the game saves from wii mode? I'll like to buy mpt digital to keep my retail disc fresh but don't want to start all over.

Somehow I don't think your first point actually precludes the other.

Maybe its just me but I hated Wii mote controls for metroid prime trilogy, honestly I struggled playing metroid prime 1 and got stuck on the hives/bee mini boss in the beginning 0_o

I'd kill for Wii u pro controller support :(

If one in every eight Wii U owners bought Metroid Prime Trilogy, Nintendo would undoubtedly be looking at proposals for a new Metroid.

You'd be willing to spend all that money for the system but $39.99 for a new Wii controller is your breaking point?

Have to admit. I'm surprised they didn't start with N64 or even Gamecube. Hopefully this is their way of starting ahead and then working their way back.

Will definitely get Punch Out, and if the Europe lineup is any indication, Kirby RtD will be a must too.

How would you even play Mario Galaxy games without a wiimote?
That's kinda like asking why the latest COD doesn't work with dpads only.

How so? I would pay a premium for a 1080p update. And having the option to use a gamepad without having to buy a wiimote would be swell too.

You'd think I would buy a WiiU only for wii games? Also the wiimote costs about double 40 dollars where I live.

If you don't already have it you'd have to be psycho to pass up that trilogy for $10.

Or, apparently, just somebody who doesn't have or want to use a Wii controller.

Galaxy 2 at $10 is low enough to make me actually consider the insane proposition of buying something from Nintendo's digital store though.

Motion controls make the Prime games' infinitely faster and smoother to play. I couldn't imagine going back to tank controls.

This is pointless if they're still 480p.

I don't own the Metroid Prime Trilogy. It's 3 full games spanning two generations and it's my second favorite Nintendo Property. It costs 10 dollars to get them on my Wii U, how is that pointless?

You don't like it, that's different than it being pointless.
