Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

For $10 I would buy MPT even though I own all 3 games, just for the convenience factor, and the slightly upgraded visuals on 1 and 2. Been wanting to replay 2 but don't want to hook up my GC.

Yea just noticed that, and holly shit now I see what people were talking about for prices for some Wii games.

But still you can get a lot of these games at game shops for decent price, maybe not as cheap as digital.

No i think it's cool they are doing this, just wish i more work went into it, and they were up rezzed. Would make a much bigger impact for them.

I would have paid a lot for an HD Trilogy of Metroid.
Now i think they will never do it. Sad.

But i'll buy this trilogy cause they never release it where is live and i want to replay 1 and 2 with the Wiimote.

sad thing is,the only wii game i want, xenoblade, will probably not come out because of the new 3ds port...port that i can't playy because i have a regular 3ds an nintendo decided to betray me

Eh, never say never. You can buy Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Starfox 64 on the Wii VC despite their 3DS remakes.

I wonder if they'll update it so that Wii disc games would be playable on the Gamepad.

Probably asking for too much.

Ditto for Donkey Kong.

i got a $50 copy of Xenoblade at gamestop for Christmas
maybe look around and maybe youll find one

I wonder what GameCube games will go for?

$15 for F-Zero GX would be swell.

I would pay $40-60 for SMG 1&2 in HD with gamepad support, and I doubt I'm alone in that.

I'm honestly happier with this model. I don't need HD remakes of last gen games. I'd rather those resources go towards new games.

I doubt you are alone though.

Quick question. I've just bought a Wii U. I have registered my codes from games and what not. I now have enough STARS to redeem 500 Nintendo points.

What exactly will 500 Nintendo points get me, if anything?

I already own these games, but.... what happens with the next Nintendo system? I imagine the physical disc wii games won't be playable, however, these digital versions will probably be fine. It would be nice to get them cheap and be able to play without having to keep two systems. Maybe I'm thinking too far ahead....

I doubt these will carry over. If you're buying them, buy them because you want to play them now. For all we know their next system won't even be BC with Wii U.

Which is why I hate the DOUBLE STANDARD Nintendo get's.
I look back now and feel a little bad as it seems I have shit up the thread with my outlook.
But after being in so many Nintendo thread's lately, it just was a jump off point of how unreasonable I find most Nintendo Poster's here on GAF.
Thats fine and all, but for your silly rant to work, you have to name names or quote the same people shitting on Sony/M and praising Nintendo.

Amazon has these games for 19.99 new retail, what moron would buy from scalpers? You have any proof from this news of these games being on estore that it's direct result of fucking scalpers?

Your making false statement's, I clearly stating mainly what I see in Nintendo thread's, and why this news isn't exciting, and games should be HD to help their slate for 2015-2016, which outside couple games on Wii U looks non-existent.

Wind waker HD did not take long to make to my understanding , and looked fantastic. These games deserve HD remakes especially by Nintendo since I think Nintendo does just as good of a job as GTA V, TLOUS:R, if not better since they are older games that were in SD format.

I can't tell if you are just not observant or if you are trying to mold the narrative to prove you point. That's SMG 1. Look at SMG 2; it’s selling between $29.99 and $50 new on Ebay.

Now try being intellectually honest and look up something like, I don’t know, Metroid Prime Trilogy, which is selling for $99.99 to $199.99 new on Ebay. Used and in good condition puts it at $50. I’ve been trying to find a cheap way to play it that didn’t involve piracy, and this is the first option I’ve had since launch. It released at $60 and only went up in price.

I get that you want remasters in HD, I do, too, but this isn’t the case of a double standard! The reason people hate remasters is the exact thing Nintendo DIDN’T do, which is using resources on remasters instead of releasing new games.

There are two expensive titles on my list, with saved searches on eBay: Metroid Prime Trilogy and Paper Mario TTYD. The latter next please, even though it's from GC.

WWHD took 6+ months to make.

Metroid trilogy is $211.00

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is $35.00

Nintendo has their backs against the wall so throwing devs at HD remasters instead of new games does not seem like a good ideal.

the system will be able to play them on the tv or on the gamepad, but you'll have to pay another 10% of what you paid originally to play them on the gamepad because nintendo.

I would have paid a lot for an HD Trilogy of Metroid.
Now i think they will never do it. Sad.

Though it's a long shot, down the line (Wii U successor?) I think these 480p games will be resold as 1080p (with whatever control options) and would require an upgrade fee, similar to the Nes and Snes Wii to Wii U titles.

Sorry if this has been asked already but has it been confirmed that if you can open up the Wii U home menu when playing these eshop versions of Wii games? Are there save states?

I hope Capcom and Konami get involved. I want Zack and Wiki and Oppona,Castlevania Judgement, Soul Caliber Legends, Last Story, and even that Monolith Wii game that never made it to USA 'Disaster Day'.

When Pandora Tower releases that should work on gamepad as that game support pro controls.

I wonder if MPT will be available to buy from Nintendo's website. I don\t own a Wii U, but if I got one in the near future this would be the first thing I'm playing.

Metroid prime trilogy on gamestops's website preowned 49.99.

Super MArio galaxy 2 29.99 preowned.

They are expensive, but they were in print for quit some time, and would make a much bigger impact consumer wise if they were HD remakes. For fair price.

There is a lot of pages to this thread so let me make sure I've got this correctly: If you just own a Wii U, say you just bought it, some of these games might not be playable unless you have an old Wii controller? That does not seem like a good idea.

Eh, never say never. You can buy Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Starfox 64 on the Wii VC despite their 3DS remakes.

that's true, however, the Wii VC releases predate the 3ds remakes by a few years. They've since seen people willing to buy n64 stuff like OoT and MM at a higher price than on the VC.

they still sell wiimotes. it was even the standard multiplayer option at launch for stuff like nintendoland.

It certainly will come handy when you are playing a Wii U game and feel like revisiting a Wii one but you're so lazy you don't want to get up and switch disks lol

Metroid Prime Trilogy only has pointer controls so of course a wii remote is needed to play that game.

Other games that support the classic controller will be playable with the gamepad though.

I just finished downloading Mario Galaxy 2 and I can see that it is basically running in Wii Mode, so the gamepad home menu is not available and our save game data from the Wii Mode is being used.

It also looks like Nintendo scanned in the manual and is viewable before you launch the game.

Just bought SMG2. What a lovely price point. I know some people are sad at missing out on HD remasters but this is still a lovely way to play and preserve older Wii titles. Especially the rarer ones like MPT.

As someone pointed out Donkey Kong Country Returns is getting added, and that has a 3DS release as well.

EDIT: I'm not saying Xenoblade is DEF. coming, I'm just saying I don't think a 3DS release for it means it can't happen.

Gimme Radiant Dawn, dangit. I'll gladly deal with the old graphics if you'll just take my money, Nintendo. I can deal with a lack of a physical copy if it makes it substantially cheaper.

Kirby Superstar would also be a good comparison. DS remake came first, then the original on Wii VC down the road. Xenoblade may come out in a few months.

Anyways, think they'll do the $10 off first week promotion for future Wii titles? I'd probably buy some if they did.

ffffuuuuuuccck...still buying the Trilogy anyway. Thanks.

It is if you can see clearly that your buying a Wii game and it warns you about the controllers etc.

I mean these are not the first games that need specific non-packed in controllers.

But I've always said that Nintendo should've packed in a Wii remote and nunchuck with the Wii U.

And/or lower the price on the damn things, it's ridiculous and damaging. Should be $20-30 MSRP, $40 maximum with a nunchuck included.

A quick catch-up for anyone who is joining the thread and has any questions on how this all works.

  1. Games with an announced release date: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (available now), Donkey Kong Country Returns (Jan. 22nd in Europe), Punch-Out!! (Jan. 22nd in the US) and Metroid Prime Trilogy (Jan 29th). All of these titles will cost $20 (or regional equivalent), but they will be on sale for half price ($10 or regional equivalent) during their first week on the eShop.
  2. Games planned for future release, without specific release dates given: Kirby's Adventure Wii (aka Return to Dreamland in the US), Punch-Out!! (in Europe), Pandora's Tower and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. I assume that DK Country Returns will be available some time in the future in the US as well.
  3. Super Mario Galaxy 2's download size is 1.3 GB.
  4. The Wii U Gamepad can be now used for both off-screen play AND as a control method in games that originally supported the Wii Classic Controller (Pro).
  5. Of the titles announced for Europe and the US, only Pandora's Tower and Sin & Punishment support the CCP.
  6. This means that, at this very moment, we do not know whether this feature will be implemented as a system-wide option or it will be restricted to eShop versions of Wii games. We will have to wait and see for any official confirmation on either possibility.
  7. There is no support for the Wii U Pro Controller or GameCube controller via adapter.
  8. eShop/Virtual Console Wii games are not HD remasters. They are the exact same Wii game that you can buy on disc, with the added advantage of not having to swap discs and being capable of skipping the vWii menu. The game seems to be running in vWii mode, for all intents and purposes (no Miiverse, Wii U menu, etc.).
  9. The Wii U Gamepad has a built-in sensor bar that can be used instead of the external one included with the Wii and Wii U. You still need a Wiimote + Nunchuk to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 (and any other game other than S&P and Pandora's Tower!).

The OP should be updated to reflect some of the most commonly-asked questions, because at least two or three people per page ask the same things over and over.

Personal note: My theory? Nintendo will release a patch that will implement the Gamepad features in a system-wide level between today and the release of the first CCP-compatible title, as part of their regular system update schedule. It'd make absolutely no sense to have such a feature for just a couple of (relatively minor) titles and not take advantage of it in any other game.

Well, seems like we're both thinking too far ahead. I'm considering buying the digital MPT, even though I already own it, because there is a chance it will run on the next Nintendo console.

I just finished downloading Mario Galaxy 2 and I can see that it is basically running in Wii Mode, so the gamepad home menu is not available and our save game data from the Wii Mode is being used.

So MPT will use the save game from my physical copy... that's very interesting, thanks for the info!

No Wii U pro controller support? Shitty.

Oh maaan...this is unreal. Wii U wasn't on my radar at all until literally right now. I'm looking up prices online as we speak. The Metroid Trilogy is essentially a system seller for me.

Should note that Punch Out is Jan 22nd for NA, and DKC is releasing on the 22nd in EU instead. But otherwise looks like a good recap.
