Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I, too, was having problems with the screen remaining black. However, I found that switching the channel and then going back to my Wii U's HDMI channel "fixed" the problem.
Just something to try if you have issues.

How about for Prime 1 and 2 sans Wiimote pointer controls?

In other words did the Wii collection versions of Prime 1 and 2 force Wiimote controls or did it give you the option to use the Classic Controller (Pro)?

Seems like both Galaxy and prime require the wiimote. I hadn't read the OP properly and was feeding off the hype from the nintendo direct with everyone looking forward to playing wii games on the gamepad. That was clarity before the details came out.

How it seems more like a convenience to have it digitally on the WiiU and not having to boot into wii mode. Other than that if you have the physical game you may as well continue to use that. Honestly forced use of wiimote is annoying for me and a real downer. Galaxy arguably never should have used the wiimote anyway and should have had classic controller support.

Probably already mentioned but I was pleasantly surprised to see my previous save files working with my newly dl Mario Galaxy 2. I know, it should be a given, but in this day and Nintendo age just about everything they do is a surprise for better or worse. Anyways, happy with the game...glad the Wii is represented...now where da frack is the GC games I've been harping about?
For now, Nintendont is your option.

The prices are pretty outrageous. as expected.

SMH

What I find really sad about Xenoblade not being confirmed for this program yet is, well...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not a single one of the confirmed Wii DD games supports the classic controller. Xenoblade would be a perfect fit since EVERYONE who has a WiiU has a gamepad. Not everyone with a WiiU has a Wiimote.

Just an opinion.

Pandora's Tower and Sin & Punishment support the CCP, but other than them, no other announced game does. This fact, plus the way it was presented in the Direct, makes me think that there's a system update that would implement this feature for all Wii games. Or, at least, for the very precise list of (a handful) of first-party games that have CCP support.

I'd kill to play Xenoblade on the gamepad!

Sorry if this has been asked but how is the Wii U GamePad going to work with pointer-shooter Wiimote controls of the Wii Metroid Prime series.

I remember Metroid Prime 3 having some of my favorite FPS controls of the gen.

Edit: Or Mario Galaxy's Wii-mote implementation for that matter?

Refer to my previous answer. Only PT and S&P support the CCP-to-Gamepad feature so far. Read the OP?

I'll probably still buy MPT, but should I just play my GC copy of MP? I don't own MP2's GC copy at all though, is Wiimote that bad? lol

So have we considered having OTs for these "VC" wii games? Kinda want to talk about my experience with SMG2 but feel the OT might be too dead to get replies.

Also, are you guys sure punch out wii doesnt support CC? cause it sure as hell supports gamecube controllers(thats what I played it with) and I dont know a single wii game that if they have the option for gamecube controllers they dont also have a option for CC controls.

It tells me to point my wii remote at the tv and I'm pointing it at my monitor but nothing is happening.
I'd like to know about that too. I tried without sensor bar, using the gamepad screen but I didn't get a response. I'm afraid gamepad only works as sensor bar after vWii has launched.

Punch-Out!! has three control options, AFAIK: Wiimote+Nunchuk (motion-based); sideways Wiimote (button-based "classic NES" scheme) and Wiimote+Nunchuk+Balance Board (motion-based EX Turbo' Revival Dash Plus... or something like that. Much motion.)

The CCP supported by the game, as far as I can tell. Are you sure you played with the GCN controller? That's the first time I hear about it. Pretty neat, though.

Just thought of something, the reported issues with external HDDs, could that be dependent on the model you're using? Mine is a 2TB Seagate HDD that's one of the specifically recommended model #'s on Nintendo's site.

Perhaps those using ones not listed, or even really unknown cheap brands are facing said issues? There are an ocean of HDDs out there to choose from after all.

Yes, the most likely differences between those who get it to work and those who don't are HDD model or Wii U OS version. I have no issue running it from the HDD (also a 2TB Seagate, with the latest OS update).

Latest update, you mean on Wii U or do you have to update the drive? I never updated my drive, it's just been with my Wii U since day 1.

And as I forgot to say here; my copy of Galaxy 2 is fine, no black screens or whatever.

Just an awkward thing where Mario kept walking to the right when I moved the stick in a different direction twice for a second (caused me to lose a life in the intro), but that's likely my Nunchuk since I've barely used the thing since buying it, so I'm likely only noticing a flaw now.

Prime's motion controls are goddamn amazing and shit all over the Gamecube controls.

This. The aiming is really precise, the switching between visors and weapons is very intuitive and the platforming works out pretty well

When I first played corruption back in the day it was the game that single handedly made me a believer in motion controls.

Much prefer playing thru MP 1&2 with motion.

Awesome, can't wait to grab the games then.

Oh I Nintendont, it's just I've been pining for legitimate off the eshop shelf GC downloads. Then I wouldn't have to go into homebrew, that beautiful GC game icon could rest snugly in a folder of the same name on the dash... Baby steps Nintendo, baby steps.

LttP threads seem appropriate. I'll sure make some for MPT if nobody else does!

Once you go Wiimote + Nunchuck on Metroid Prime you wont want to go back, I had confidence after really liking MP3's controls - and when MPT hit and I replayed it it definitely delivered.

One of the best games ever got even better that day. *faints*

Those are the only control schemes that work with Punch-Out!! Wii. The GameCube and Classic Controller do not work with Punch-Out!! Wii.

You could play the NES Punch-Out!! with the GameCube controller and Classic Controller though.

Not that I disagree with the general principle, but Mega Man isn't a very good example since you can get the entire original series on the PS2 via the Anniversary Collection for around 5 bucks.

The PS2 collection usually goes for $10-$20 and isn't compatible with the more recent PS3 or PS4 systems. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...w=mega+man+annivesary+collection+ps2&_sacat=0

They're also ports of the Playstation 1 versions (which can be downloaded individually on PSN) which are ports of the NES games and aren't as good in quality (sound quality, color palette, screen cropping, difference in frame rate). That's why the NES cartridges go for so high and the Virtual Console versions are worth it at $5 each. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...0.H0.Xmega+man+nes&_nkw=mega+man+nes&_sacat=0

So games after the first three wont be on sale first week?

No clue sadly. I would hope they do this every time. If Nintendo sees a decline of sales after the first week, they might decide to continue it.

I also hope we might see lower prices for games that featured online, especially ones where they were pretty crucial, like Mario Kart Wii and Brawl. I dunno, $15 and $7.50 first week?

I doubt they'll release games like MK or Smash, since there's MK8 and Smash4. Zangeki no reginleiv has online feature, so we can wait and see.

While I would love Super Mario Galaxy 2 and DKCReturns installed on the Wii U (especially as I've just bought a 500GB hard drive and would be nice to use it) I just can't enforce that kind of laziness on myself.

I rotate where my Wii U is in the house depending on whose home and what game I'm playing between my room and the downstairs living room, which is where I keep my games. Alls this really is doing is saving me getting up and swapping discs. Also, it would make me feel like the disc copies I own no longer have any use.

I will be jumping on MP Trilogy though, I've been hunting for that for years since it came out and could never justify the price. I missed the original Prime, got stuck on Prime 2 back in '05 (it's that bit where if you save before a boss on low health, you're completely screwed, as you can't heal and when you reload the game you're health is stuck at what you saved at) and completed Prime 3 on Wii back in '08 (great game). So it's perfect. Also been meaning to grab Sin and Punishment, sucks about Xenoblade though. Doubtful we'll see a release any time soon, if ever, as I would have liked to have played it in all its glory.

As for Kirby, I really want to own the disc copy as it would complete my Wii collection of having all the main franchises represented, and I'm really anal about that. But like MPT, the prices for it are crazy.

Yes that seemed to be my problem. When I read the gamepad would work as a sensor bar, I assumed that would be through the whole process not just for after the game had launched >_>

How has metroid prime trilogy aged? I only played about 1/2 of prime 1 back in the gamecube days. Are the dated graphics particularly off putting?

You guys complaining about $10 for these games...smh. It's not out of line with what PSN charges for classic games. MPT is a fucking steal at $10.

Trilogy is a steal at full price considering you get 3 amazing games for the price of one.

$10? That's almost like getting paid to play the games.

How big do we think the file size of the prime trilogy will be? Around 4 or 5gb?

Quick googling says the .iso is 7.6gB
