Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I wish people with the discs could somehow play in Wii U mode so stats and such were recorded. I'd totally consider buying Metroid Prime Trilogy again for $10 but I don't want it to take up space.

Does it matter what year it is when defining features of a game that were good at the time they came out? May as well just call everything before this gen shit if that's the case, because so little compares graphically to what we have now.

For a game that has not received any graphical updates in years or at all, it looks "excellent". Some people are able to respect how a game looks based on when it came out, rather than how it compares to current games.

I assume you mean you wish people with the disc could play it in Wii U mode, but what "stats" are you talking about? It's already confirmed the original Wii save can be carried over.
 
Bought a 25-Euro-eshop card today and just downloaded SMG 2! Can't wait to play it! :)

Well, I have to wait for my paycheck because I don't have a Wii Remote...

Next one: Metroid Prime Trilogy. Never played an entry of this series (Prime series) so I'm pretty excited to see if GAF hype delivers!

Yes, I would pay good money for SMG HD collection with 1080p 60 FPS visuals, higher quality models, and improved textures... Actually, just the higher resolution would already do wonders :).

I really enjoyed MP1 on GameCube, too, but it's really hard to go back to the non-Wii version these days. The restricted movement feels archaic.

I remember those debates, as well. Metroid Prime is not an FPS in the way most people would define one; it is definitely an FPA. There need to be more games like it...

I was talking about the Wii U activity log and more broadly, the way in which games would tie into the Wii U. I like having that stuff tracked and available but I don't think it would do that if I was using my disc.

I didn't know that the save transfers though -- that's great. I'm more likely to buy Wii games I already own knowing that. There's still the space problem though unfortunately.
 
best thing about this is the tumbling prices of physical games. Metroid already dropped about £20-30 on ebay and managed to get Xenoblade today for £31, near mint condition bar poor sticker removal.

Don't know how far it'll affect Xenoblade, don't see Nintendo putting that up for a while, if at all.

Most every non HD game that was 3d doesn't look excellent these days especially on HD displays. I didn't say it looked bad, but no it doesn't look excellent. None of the stuff from the Cube or the PS2 or the Xbox looks excellent now. Sorry if that ruffles your feathers. That's just how it is.

I mean I still love PSO, and I still play the game on fan servers on the PC from time to time. Still have a ton of fun with it. I'm not gonna try and sit and spin that the game still looks excellent though.

Find two candles and use them as a sensor bar to start the game in TV+GamePad mode, you can then blow out the candles and put your gamepad on the cradle in front of the TV and use its built in sensor bar.

I just tested and it seems like the GamePad's sensor bar does not turn on until the game is started in TV+GamePad mode, so the built-in sensor bar cannot be used to start the game from the Wii Menu. Seems like an oversight.

EDIT: If you have a classic controller, plug it into the Wii Remote and use it to select TV+GamePad mode, then the GamePad sensor bar can be used. Thanks Aeana! I just tested and confirmed that works too.

IIRC you can use the classic controller to move the cursor to select the option to get into Wii mode, so you can still do it without a sensor bar, just a bit of a hassle.

I have to disagree. Metroid Primes, Starfox Adventures and RE 4. I'm sure there are skme others.

Anyone complaining about the price of these...damn. Metroid Prime Trilogy at $10 is three fantastic games in one, each one worth $20 each. Even when it goes back to $20, it'll be worth it. If you haven't got it and would like to experience these games at a non extortionate price, please buy it and support the guys at Retro. I own the first two on GC, Corruption's original release AND the trilogy, but I'll be buying it again for $10. Just need to order a USB stick.

These games are playable on the game pad only in the sense that the gamepad may be used like a little portable TV. You still need to use the Remote and Nunchuck controllers as both games make use of motion control and the pointer. In Prime, you aim your gun with the pointer, for example.

Yep that's what I meant. Bc the gamepad itself acts as a sensor right?

Any two IR sensors will work if in tandem. It's best to buy a cheap USB sensor bar from eBay so you van plug it between your Wii, Wii U and PC (Dolphin) when required. They're cheap on eBay for about 2£.

Do you mean control wise or just the ability to play it on the gamepad like a TV screen? If it's the latter than the answer should be yes.
 
Guys I can't get my gamepad screen to recognize the wii remote. I even tried unplugging the sensor bar from the console itself. Any tips?

Nevermind got it.
 
The last thing that I would want is to buy both SMG2 and the Metroid Trilogy then have them remastered later down the line lol.

I honestly doubt at this point that a HD remaster of either game will come anytime soon. Next gen at the earliest.

If anything I think this is their acknowledgement/confirmation that they aren't going to do remasters any time soon.

Would like some Cube ones but honestly I would just like access to cube games in any form at this point
 
Say... I have a question for you gaffers. I managed to find my Metroid Prime Trilogy disc (It amazingly survived being out in the open for 2+ years buried under some stuff with no scratches (that disc is a freaking mirror). In your opinions, should I still get the digital version when it comes out? I'm tempted to.

Nothing as Nintendo points are for the Wii Shop channel and the eShop where you buy SMG2 uses real money instead.

If you want SMG2 delete something and download it now as you need downloads to start on the eShop for a purchase to happen.

Things to think about with hard drives. Since the whole drive has to be used for Wii U and only that specific Wii U (no partitions or anything like that) going over 500gb is utter insanity. USB powered drives need a Y-cable (one cable for power another for data) as the USB bus on the Wii U is underpowered. With those two bits of info, a 500gb drive and a y-cable are my suggestion.
 
Let me tell you all my crazy little story. I, like most of you, have tremendous backlogs on all the systems I own. The PS4, the 360, the Xbox1, the 3DS and Steam. I also have a Wii U. I used to have a Wii in the past and played quite a few of the top games and then I bought a Wii U and then sold it about 6 months in. I just bought it again a few weeks ago. Anyway I see this new deal, Super Mario Galaxy 2 for a lousy 10 bucks. I am thrilled because I never played it before and I get to play it for cheap and not have to worry about the Wii mode or setting up the Sensor bar or using the Wii Controllers.

Of course I find out through this lovely website that I would in fact still need a Sensor bar and the controllers for the original Wii. So while disappointed I go to Gamestop and buy a package deal of a WiiMote and the Nunchuck for 30 bucks. I buy the PowerA wireless Wii U sensor bar. I walk out of there with 54 dollars less than what I walked in with. Next I stop at the dollar store and pick up 2 packages of cheap double A batteries for 4 bucks.I go home and try to set up the sensor bar with the controllers. Of course it would not work, the blue light kept going off. I then search the net and find out the Power A sensor bar basically demands great batteries or it won't work correctly. I go back out to 7-11 and buy a 10 pack of Duracell's for 10 bucks. I get home and it works fine and the controllers pair without an issue. Now I go to the eStore and buy SMG2 for 11 bucks with tax and it is downloading as I type this. So for me to get SMG2 for the great price they are selling it for I ended up spending almost 80 bucks. But I just had to have it...

Better specs for the system? Seen a lot of people complaining about this and not a single one understanding that you need a competent pc to be able to play these games in 1080p with all the settings, most competent pcs have better specs than WiiU does.
