Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

That's right. Tanabe said that he's had this idea for about 10 years, and he's happy to be finally showing it to us.
I think once people calm down this will be better received when it releases which is next year so it'll have time.

And if Nintendo announces a "true Metroid" game before its launch then it's likely to be better received in any case.

Anyway, it's great that Tanabe is overseeing this one and gives me faith in this game.

I think someone heard Tanabe saying he's had this idea for this side-story in the Metroid Prime universe for many years now. So it just sounds like he's finally got to do it.

And as I said in the other thread. It was probably much easier to get Nintendo to greenlight this small-budget 3DS production than it was to get a full-blown HD AAA Prime type game on the Wii U.

He said he wanted to work on it for about 10 years.

And man the game looks like Metroid x Monster Hunter, I am really digging it.

Anyone getting a bit of a Destiny vibe from the co-op portions? Specifically, the reviving and teamwork mechanic aspects.

I just wish the graphics were a little more serious and less Chibi-esque..

This is what I been getting from it aswell.

And he said 3 planets with 10 missions, it could be fun if there is replayability, just like Triforce Heroes.

Gonna try to rope my friend into playing these with me. :D

They mentioned that they were trying to get this game ready for the n3DS launch. Which means it was originally supposed to be finished months ago. And since it still isn't coming until 2016, they are doing some major updates.

I still really like the concept for this. Taking user feedback from its public reveal would be a good step for improvement.

I'm so glad to hear that Tanabe has been wanting to make a Galactic Federation game and has many more ideas to expand upon it.

I've been wanting Metroid spin-off games for a long time. Metroid has so much potential for expansion and I'm glad there is someone at Nintendo that wants to expand it.

How can you expand the world without Samus?!

Yeah like some others in the thread I'm warming up to the game more, I understand now that this is just a spinoff, nothing more.

As for Tanabe, he really should get more recognition than he does, for all the leadership he has done for Retro. I'm really curious if his adjusting time mechanic could make it into a new, proper Metroid someday. Make it like Sonic CD.

There are aesthetic advantages to exagerrated proportions, namely that it's easier to distinguish various objects and details from one another. Many 3DS games go for a chibi style in order to maximise screen economy (as they're working with a pretty tiny resolution)

That makes sense in that that was around the time that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes came to be, where the Galactic Federation was fleshed out more.

I strongly remember playing through the opening of MP2, and thinking "Thank god the Federation Troopers are dead by the time you arrive, they're lame as hell and NOT the direction Metroid needs to go." I thought it was really clever to show how many typical soldiers died immediately in a situation Samus would have to overcome on her own. Then when it was brought back for MP3 it killed the opening, that game only getting good when you reach Bryyo and get away from them.

The Federation stuff in Fusion and Other M is the weakest parts of those games too. I'm just upset that they think this is an interesting part of the Metroid world, when in reality the Chozo, Metroids and Space Pirates and various planets they all come from / live on are where the interest lies.

Yeah I'm all for expanding on the Metroid world. I think it would have been received much better if this came out when the series was getting regular releases in the early and mid 2000's. As long as we still get more traditional Metroid games I'm fine with this.

I haven't done a full 180 on this game yet since I still have some concerns about online, mission variety and length but I defiantly feel much better about this after watching the treehouse stream today.

is this really the main complaint now. not having samus?

its called metroid prime federation force not samus prime federation force.

yeah if they have a decent sized singleplayer campaign and enough multiplayer missions.. why not?

Well that and the art design really.

And i've heard 3 Planets, 10 Missions per planet.

Not sure if Single Player and Multiplayer are the same.

Even as a side-thing, a spin-off, this looks bad on several levels.

I'm not angry or anything and I think the cancel-the-game petition is childish and disrespectful but as someone who loved the series, especially Metroid 2, Super Metroid and the Primes, all that comes to mind when I look at this game is "WTF? Nope".

It's also sad that we will probably not get a proper Metroid game for the WiiU. It really would have made sense for this kind of console/pad setup with the map and all and instead we get this. *sigh*

The game doesn't look good to me at all, and I did see the treehouse. That said, the reason it has 50,000 dislikes isn't really because it's necessarily bad in its own right. The reason it has 50,000 dislikes is because people have been wanting a real Metroid for many years and this resembles in no way a real Metroid. It may be a good Blastball game, but it's not a good Metroid game or a Metroid game at all.

I'm curious. If you're Nintendo and the official trailer of your game has 50,000 dislikes and counting, is it worse PR to just leave it alone, or pull the video?
If anything, this fiasco made me even more happy that I have backed your project. Please continue developing! :D

Personally, I've always wanted to see all of the different factions of the Metroid universe expanded since I find it all interesting, but I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah, Treehouse stream definitely settles it for me. I'm on board and ready to give this a go. I just hope the single player component is interesting enough.

Once again, Treehouse does damage control. While I still contend that Nintendo revealed this in the worst possible way -- and I would, personally, love to see an art direction more reflective of the Metroid Prime universe -- it does look like a fun spin-off. Knowing that it's Next Level and that Tanabe is overseeing it inspires some hope; best case scenario, the vitriol inspires NLG to kick some ass on this.

Its a progress. Also the game has at least one more year of development, I trust Next Level Games.

Eh, it's not like they've done something like this before. They gotta prove themselves with this one. It all just looks very...mediocre to me. I don't think it'll be a broken janky mess or anything, but it looks like an experience you could get anywhere. Online shooter with space soldiers. I don't see a really obvious gameplay element that makes me go, "Okay, that's the inspiration."

Again, I don't think the core problem is that it's necessarily garbage, the core problem is that people want a Metroid game and no PR spin will ever convince them that what they're seeing is the Metroid they've been wanting for years. Because it just factually isn't. MP, cartoony graphics, silly tone rather than isolated tone. It's not what they want.

Metroid Prime Federation Force

A spin-off on the FPS Prime series. Why would people be pissed when they clearly aren't trying to brand this as the next new mainline Metroid game.

Hey Jobbs, I love your Metroidvania style game and can't wait to play it.

Earlier in this thread I posted this in regards to Nintendo dropping the ball here:

I want to point out that when developers like Nintendo and Konami drop the ball on beloved franchises like Metroid and Castlevania there is now more options than ever to play games "in the spirit" of the Metroidvania genre. All I have to say is thank goodness for things like Kickstarter, PC, and indie devs, because there is plenty "metroidvania's" to choose from now and in the future. They will never replace Metroid, but it makes it a little easier to wait on the Metroid franchise to return when these games are available.

Having said that, I was thinking of your game along with Axiom Verge and Bloodstained when I posted that.

So thank you for keeping my favorite genre alive when large corporations like Nintendo or Konami refuse to, even when they have the time and money to do so.

I also mean no disrespect to other Metroidvanias out there by putting Metroid at the top, because some of these games out now or coming out in the future may be just as good or even better in their own right.

Game looks good, people as always hating without knowing.

Just needs a good single player and lots of lore to open up the universe.
They should show the "other parts "of the game if they don't want people judging about what they see. I still don't understand why Nintendo showed that shitty trailer.

Also I don't get the artstyle, there are many other Nintendo IPs that work in that artstyle, and they chose Metroid, the game still needs more hunters and less humans.

Wow, check it out. It looks much better in the Treehouse footage than in the reveal. NLh are uber talented and it shows. I'm not a Metroid guy but if I were a fan I would hope I would be open to this new side story take on the franchise because it looks quite impressive just from where I'm sitting.

Also, someone above mentioned SP. Will this game have a SP mode at all or likely not?

Here is the video of today's stream for MPFF

It does look better in the stream than it did in the direct for some odd reason.

The game is confirmed to have single player. Don't remember if it was mentioned as a separate campaign or the same levels though.

The reason is the trailer looked like hot garbage.

Visually, the game still does look like hot garbage. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with the chibi style. Not to mention the ridiculously blocky looking models. If Prime Hunters on the DS can capture the visual style of the Prime games pretty well, this game has no excuse for looking so terrible.

Watching the Treehouse videos, it's a functional co-op shooter. There's really nothing special or interesting about it.

Checked out some of the Treehouse footage.

Pros - it looked serviceable and fun.

Cons - I wish it didn't have chibi-troops.

If this game doesn't have online play, it's DOA.

The excuse is that those are actually piloted mechs like the Hulkbuster armor, not chibi Federation soldiers.

This is exactly how I feel.
