Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

The actual gameplay looks good enough for me, but they should really work on the music and artstyle. Both are pretty bland right now. I don't even have an issue with the chibi characters you see for like 1 second while you enter your mechs, it's the environment that looks very uninteresting. Just for shit and giggles I played Phendrana Drifts music over the Ice Beast section yesterday and it was a world of difference. They can take the entire OST without any changes for all I care, but right now the music isn't worthy of a game with "Metroid Prime" in the title.

It's a spinoff game, which is completely fine by me, but if you use the Metroid Prime IP to get more interest you better make it count! Right now I'd say they're about 1/3 there, so they better keep working hard until the release in 2016.

Game was totes sexist, and character assassinated a character that never had an actual personality before.
I really question whether or not you people really, really understand the games you claim to love, because your statement is completely and utterly false. The first game where Samus said anything was...get this...Super Metroid/Metroid 3. It was more or less a briefing of what she did and what would hapen next, but it was something.

Then came Metroid Fusion, where she expressed quite a variety of emotion. Concern, worry (if she could trust the AI on her ship), relief (when she saw the animals that helped her in Super Metroid were freed and rememberd her), even anger (when the AI stated what she said was foolish), along with a shocked expression during the game's climax.

She has/had character and a personality before Other M was a thing, whether or not you completely blind yourself to it.
I just got the biggest flashback to 2001... "They turned Metroid into a generic shooter!"

Also, around that time...

I can NEVER forget that meltdown. It was historic. People lost their minds. "How dare Nintendo!" "The series is now for babies!" "This is awful!" "Zelda is supposed to be mature!" "Zelda's dead."

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Funny you mention this about Zelda, because that's exactly how a lot of people are reacting to Triforce Heroes right now. Have a fun ride going through those comments.

Hopefully once everyone calms down and watches the treehouse footage and all the info on the game. They will be less angry about it.

In one of the interviews it was revealed that 1 mission in the game involves metroids. Also I think samus got confirmed to be appearing in the game

Can't open this right now (mobile data yay), but are they still complaining about the story?
It's a few of them, but a new complaint about the story pops up every now and then. Every other complaint seems to be about....everything else, even the "Toon" Style, despite 2009 being the last time we had a mainstream Zelda style that was "Toon" based.

What? It's literally dungeon gameplay broken down into smaller areas and balanced around three players. What's there to hate about it?

Someone should make a thread will all the info and footage revealed about the game. I think most people here have only seen that trailer and nothing else about the game.

Visually, the game still does look like hot garbage. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with the chibi style. Not to mention the ridiculously blocky looking models. If Prime Hunters on the DS can capture the visual style of the Prime games pretty well, this game has no excuse for looking so terrible.

Watching the Treehouse videos, it's a functional co-op shooter. There's really nothing special or interesting about it.

Not so much capture, Prime: Hunters was a faithful representation. The DS was too weak to do the game justice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae1dcvPXryM

That's how good Hunters looks in HD

People comparing THIS mobile looking game with Wind Waker??!

Whats wrong with you people?!?!

People were bashing sure but those are not even CLOSE!

At least wind waker felt like a major AAA with production values, graphics etc (it holds up in HD to this day)

Now THIS?!?!? LOL

Apparently a NLG developer has leaked some info on 4chan about another Metroid game for the 3DS, here's the reddit thread: Rumour: Metroid leak

Apparently the leaker was identified by 4chan and soon thereafter his LinkedIn profile was shut down and he does work for NLG.

I doubt Metroid Prime was "slapped on it last minute" because we already knew NLG was working on Metroid because of the leaked art work and also because Federation Force is way too saturated with Prime aesthetics to be "oh, we'll just call it Metroid!"

Bullshit rumor.

Yeah, what I was going to say. The result of this game not looking like Metroid was the amount of compromises they took to get their multiplayer Metroid game to work on 3DS.

It's an interesting Monster Hunter derivative in a known universe and from what I saw in the Treehouse you're way off with your mobile comparison. I know there's a good chance I'll play that with my son and his buddies, like we did for the excellent Metroid attraction in Nintendoland.

mte, even if WW wasn't your type of game at least you knew it was of a certain standard. This game just looks bad, Nintendo can do better than this.

I have nothing against this game per se. But is it really needs to be called Metroid and set in this universe. This could have been new IP. Exploring new ideas and themes is what makes franchises born. Instead it just reminds me that we haven't seen "proper" Metroid game for it feels like forever.

I signed the petition. Yeah it's stupid petition btw. Demanding game to be cancelled is *** move. I did it not because I hate this game. But because all game related media outlets will pick up on it making click bait articles. And maybe just maybe Nintendo will get the message. Stop making spin-off games of every franchise you've made. Be creative like you once was. Splatoon proved you can. Shock therapy.

This is the best showcase yet.

I specifically enjoyed the bit about custom load-outs at the 13 minute mark.

Yeah man, game is looking fun. I just hope there is decent variety in mission types. Destiny became a grind ridiculously fast because it lacked in variety.

Apparently it will be fairly challenging. They were getting whooped at the end of that second mission.

What the leaker said is that the "Prime" subtitle was slapped in the last minute and that originally it was just Metroid: Federation Force.

We didn't know NLG was working on Metroid. The leaked artwork is pre-2013, before NLG started working on Luigi's Mansion

Anyway, the guy from Unseen64 tweeted that today's leak is a fabrication, so..

The game is based on Prime by the way it controls, so there's no doubt this is meant to be part of the metroid prime universe.

I am a huge Metroid fan and I would love another "real" entry but I think this game looks fun. Spin-offs happen, big deal. At this point it's safe to say they are holding off on the next major Metroid until the NX.

I would be more fine with it if it was called Blastball: Space Marine Adventures and was on the eShop.

This really doesn't resemble a Metroid game. Hell, you don't even play as Samus in this.

Truth. And remember the last time Metroid skipped a generation we got Prime, so I'm not terribly worried. Sometimes you gotta let things sit so they can come back strong.

But was that game called Zelda?
I'm not sure why they are inconsistent in their naming conventions but the fact is Nintendo has always leveraged their brands for spin-offs and that has rarely hurt the core titles. Do you really think this is their primary direction for the Metroid series going forward?

Maybe Link's Crossbow Training and Hyrule Warriors don't have Zelda in the name but they are in the same vein as MP: Federation Force, in my opinion.

I doubt it. At this point, I don't think they have any clue about what to do with the franchise, and when this game tanks they're going to go 'nope, people aren't interested in Metroid anymore' and that'll be that. They don't listen to the fans of the series, have shown no interest in calming fears about the series' life or criticism about the last game, despite them answering criticism over other games quickly and openly.

Look at it in a different way:

This is now the most advertised Metroid game ever. A lot of people who normally wouldn't have even given it a passing glance are aware of it.

At least they didn't make another Other M! It's true that it's been awhile since MP3 but I think the series will be fine if Retro is indeed working on the next installment.

That's not what really concerns me. What concerns me is the lack of acknowledgement from Nintendo. Looking at Federation Force, I don't think for one second that they took a step back and said "wait a minute, we should re-examine what's going on here." When I read interviews from them, it feels like they're as obtuse as ever about why Other M failed, why fans hate Federation Force and why it will fail as well.

Why should they? It's clearly a spin-off, I am still failing to see the issue here. You want them to acknowledge that there is something wrong with a Metroid spin-off but they clearly think nothing is. Neither do I.

I'm not saying we are going to get another amazing Metroid one day. I honestly don't know if it will happen and I can certainly understand some skepticism. That said, I don't think this game hurts that possibility at all, and if anything it helps it by simply keeping the Metroid name in use.

Personally, assuming another mainline Metroid game will happen, I don't want it to be on 3DS or Wii U. I'd be much happier if it was a major launch title for whatever's NeXt. ;)

I was talking about Other M, and how, if they acknowledged/examined problems of it, after 5 years the first Metroid game wouldn't be a spin-off.

I think they acknowledged problems of it by not making another one. I can understand you wanting to see a big return to form for the next entry after 5 years, though. I'm just saying I don't think the Metroid series is in a worse place because of this game's existence.

Hmm...I'm going to have to disagree, I'm afraid. If they acknowledged/examined the problems, I think they would have tried to re-establish the series with a traditional game. With a spin-off, you're basically acting like nothing is wrong and carrying along your merry way.

Now, MAYBE they view Prime and Metroid as different universes (The fans don't and that's pretty important since they've used fan theories/logic before), but that still wouldn't excuse the ugly art style and overall blandness of this game, since it doesn't really look like a Prime or Metroid game.
