FOX just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Comic Book culture (I'm an expert), but honor and respect to the source material are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Manga where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over a bad comic book movie, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is selling the rights to MARVEL.

What this means is the comic fans public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to watch FOX's movies, nor will they purchase any of X-Men or Fantastic 4 merchandise. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but FOX has alienated an entire market with this move.

FOX, publicly apologize and cancel FANT4STIC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Calm down. Everyone's going to see Deadpool and Apocalypse.

While I love what Fox has done with the X-men movies, I really think they should just return the Fantastic Four movie rights to Marvel. Clearly they don't know what to do with it, and all they're doing is ruining the IP.

Apocalypse yes. Especially coming off the incredible Days of Future Past.

Deadpool? I don't think so. Lame character, and the last thing the general public knows about him is the sowed up mouth version from Wolverine Origins. Deadpool is going to be a bigger flop than Antman. Though maybe not as big a 4lop as F4.

Hey look, somebody who can't tell the difference between "mediocre" or "bad".

RT Scores:

Thor: 77%
Thor 2: 66%
Iron Man 2: 72%
Iron Man 3: 79%
Captain America: 79%
Age of Ultron: 74%

Fantastic Four: 20%

Here we learn the difference between what you like and what a lot of people are saying about a film you haven't seen yet. Consensus bro.

I find the implication that the Iron Man sequels are practically as good as Age of Ultron to be quite insulting.

It fucking sucks, because I can see glimmers of a pretty awesome movie there.

It's like the Fantastic Four is a child that has these incredible ideas and everyone has high hopes, and then his father (director) beats him repeatedly to try and get him to be the incredible person we know he can be. And then, as he grows up, his peers (producers) pick up on his faults and constantly badger and bully him and eventually transform him and cut enough away from his existence that he's left clobbered.

while saying "it's clobbering time"?

lolwut? Deadpool is loved by more people than you think, & the advertising is already making fun of the sowed-up mouth thing from Origins: Wolverine. And Ant-Man was a flop?

I think WAY more people in the general public know about Deadpool merely through the internet/tumbler at this point. He's pretty damn recognizable.

E: The Deadpool trailer released 12 hours ago is at 1.5 million views by the way.

Eh, RT isn't really supposed to be used like that. Its just an aggregate of binary would/would not recommend reviews. So if:

Movie 1 gets 6/10 6/10 6/10 6/10 6/10
Movie 2 gets 10/10 10/10 10/10 10/10 and a 5/10

Movie 1 gets a 100% RT and Movie 2 gets a 90% RT.

Which is why the %'s getting thrown around like it talks about the quality is stupid. Metacritic is more reliable I think. Where Iron Man 2, 3 and Aou have a 57, 62 and 66 respectfully.

I will say this, people are over estimating Deadpool's popularity AND appeal. But I look forward to the crow thread

They know it, they're dropping it in February.

Age of Ultron was probably the most forgettable Marvel film in a while. Fantastic Four has its back though.

Also, this. He isn't super widely known with general audiences. People already don't make the link between this and his previous appearance.

You're joking, right? Deadpool is an incredibly well known and beloved character amongst comic fans and is basically a meme for the internet age at this point. It'll only do poorly if it sucks.

Ah, fair enough. I didn't know that's how RT worked. Never visited the site myself.

Age of Ultron was probably the most forgettable Marvel film in a while. Fantastic Four has its back though.

I thought AoU was fine. Its two main problems were that the plot and pacing was a bit messy at times, the ending was pretty shite when they had to battle an army of small Ultrons, and it felt a lot like filler until we can finally move on to the real Big Bad, Thanos. But on the whole the film was great, the actors are great, the action was much better handled than Avengers 1 and it seeded a few neat plot elements which should hopefully pay off next year in Civil War.

Heck, I thought it was worth it just to see Hulk vs. the Hulkbuster. That shit was awesome.

I think this film is a cautionary tale for all filmmakers interested in working with comic book properties. You needn't linger over origin stories and make your film front-end heavy with exposition.

. But I look forward to the crow thread

Nothing says obsessive fandom like lingering over year-old statements made about a throwaway comic movie. Throw in some Schadenfreude, and brother! you got a stew.

I am just going to reread mu issues of Agent X

Am I a bad person for coming in here just to laugh at the damage?

sounds spectacular:

Sample dialogue.
Victor (pre-transformation): I think the whole world should come to an end.
Susan (sarcastic): Listen to Dr. Doom here.

Sounds like it was written when comic book movies were still embarrassed to be themselves and the 'canon' is shoehorned in in awkward ways. No self confidence, no confidence in the source material.

The reason why comic movies are so popular right now is because they finally got over that and became unapologetic.

The helicopter thing was so dumb anyways.

They're a bunch of fucking scientists, right? Don't they know that ALL OBJECTS FALL AT THE SAME RATE. shove your stupid quip up your ass.

I didnt hear the quip in question but yes, not accounting for air resistance objects fall at the same rate.

If they are the same weight. Sure.

That's not how gravity works. Size and weight do matter when it comes to air resistance, but otherwise a cell phone will drop at the same rate as a car.

But when you're wanting to drop something ONTO something else with the intent of fucking it up, sure, the Thing is best for the job.

Just remember, the fans are the reason why the Deadpool movie is even a thing in the first place.

Yeah, and Fox realizes that it isn't uber popular or mass appeal which is why they only gave it a ~50 million dollar budget.

I just hope it's not another Dredd.

Oh, I didn't think it was technically a bad film, it just was very forgettable. After Ant-Man, me and some friends were talking comic book films. I struggled to remember a single thing from the film outside they went to a barn in the middle of the film like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

That's just me though.

Probably the best review you are going to get.
Fantastic Four is an IP that will not make a good movie, sorry.

*psst* - the Fantastic Four are just a bad group of unengaging characters */psst*

Lets be honest - the first films didn't work and the new ones are struggling two. Their super powers are both too basic and too powerful. The Thing is a poor mans hulk and the other characters 'powers' are quite all powerful whilst also too describable.

X Men has a wider range of interesting 'powers' whilst Avengers is more or less STRONG PEOPLE. Not sure Fantastic Four will ever really work, or ever really did.

Weird that one of the worst grouping of super heroes would make for a bad movie.

He's right you know? All you need is the right director, a good script and to not forget the Fantastic part of the franchise.

Guess you haven't seen this GAF meme before.

omg @ those quotes and Doom's final look

jesus christ how does this movie get new levels of bad every time I decide to check in on it

Does Marvel own Adam Warlock, or does he belong to FOX because he showed up in the first 100 issues of FF?

Marvel has Warlock and people are expecting him to show up for GOTG2 or Infinity War

His coccoon from the comics is actually seen in Thor 2 and GOTG but wasn't there to tease an appearance or anything, Gunn just said he put it in because it looked good.
