I don't care for performance boost that needs a patch.
LOL
Better not buy a scorpio then
I don't care for performance boost that needs a patch.
Yeah that 3 fps increase is pretty great.
The only real upgrade on the XB1S is HDR, but you wouldn't care about real upgrades, would you?![]()
Problem is that people are not understanding what checkerboard is.
1800p checkerboard is not 1800p native upscaled to 2160p.
It is a an equivalent resolution of 1800*1600 rendered pixels on an alternated checkerboard pattern that is used to reconstruct a 1800p image (1800*3200) which then gets upscaled to 2160p (2160*3840).
At the same time 2160p checkerboard is an equivalent resolution of 2160*1920 pixels that is used to fully reconstruct a final image of 2160*3840 pixels that do not requires further upscaling.
I don't care for performance boost that needs a patch.
Yes, a small performance boost without a patch would eventually made me buy it.
I really don't care for 4K gaming so it's pointless to waste +400 dollars on this now.
No reason for me to get a Pro then.
Yes.
What XB1 S did is great. Performance boost without a patch.

Nice explanation. People who thinks that checkerboard technique is upscaling should read this.
it's not native but it isn't upscaling eitherCheckerboard is expensive upscaling. If it isn't native, it is upscaling no matter what Sony or AMD calls it. Call a spade a spade.
it's not native but it isn't upscaling either
No apologies needed!Apologies and Touche. Are DF and Eurogamer not one in the same or connected in some way?
Edit: I see. I will be more specific next time. Digital Foundry = In-depth technical analysis of games and gaming hardware at Eurogamer.net.
Yes.

We're part of the same company for sure but it's just the four of us doing work for DF!

are you david, tom, Richard or Damien? if you don't mind me asking?
How many smooths per second though? From playing bf1 and cod the bone version definitely plays much smoother....bf1 is the most noticeable ,especially on the 64player maps when you have 20 people around you lobbing grenades on that forest map...if the pro can deliver a smoother experience I'll be happy
I think people are going to be disappointed as they will be expecting 3k gaming pc visuals from the sounds of it.
John.are you david, tom, Richard or Damien? if you don't mind me asking?
Haha, glad I'm not the only one who noticed that Richard was being way too hard on that poor guy lol. Ordering him around near the start, and then flat out interrupting him and being blunt later on. Felt so bad for Tom lol...

remote play is 1080p 60 on the ProI wonder if the Pro has improved Remote Play performance. I recall some speculation that the "PS4K" as it was known then might have improved encoding abilities
Sonys entire coverage of the console has been a complete shambles.
...
Even with that very tiny performance boost, the original PlayStation 4 is still 31% more powerful than the Xbox One S.
So, a 30% performance boost isn't important, but that 7% boost, is?
Don't worry, you're not alone. I've heard that opinion expressed many times here on GAF. I don't understand it, but yeah, I've heard it.

As a note that I forgot to mention in the blog post above we did include a performance option. You can choose either Better Frame Rate or Higher Resolution with the default being the higher resolution option.
Both Infamous already had a unlocked fps option so guess this patch pushed it to 60 on the ProInteresting

It's testament to how great Microsoft marketing became under Phil Spencer - they are true masters of giving small details that create great for them misconceptions.

I use my mac for remote play nowAnd we will forever be shackled to the Vita's shit WiFi chip it seems... unless... Trinity?
Then you need a ps4 instead of a xbox Constant boostI don't care for performance boost that needs a patch.
Not really, just that fans of any product will delude themselves to favour their already preferred brand for all sorts of reasons.
7%, 30%, 1/3rd, pi, it's all just numbers. What matters is how those numbers make you feel!

I want a Pro on day one, and I want to trade my PS4 in toward it, but I'm currently paying through a couple of games this weekend. I likely won't be able to get one without preordering though, so I'm torn.
Wat ?
I did not notice a significant amount of demanding AAA titles on xb1 s hitting 1080p yet, to me Xb1 S should of been stronger than Ps4, MS had plenty of time. A performance boost from bad to poor is hardly exciting lol
PS4 pro is what Ps4 should of been imo.
At least Scorpio looks good for next year and hopefully MS can fit a Zen in there to make it a 60 FPS beast.
I keep seeing people go on about PS4 Pro is what the PS4 should have been, but if it had been the cost would have been probably another PS3 disaster.
The reason Sony can do this now is that its affordable for them to do so, they could have done it at launch, it would have been too expensive and people would have moaned. The step approach is the best they could have done based on a reasonable price at launch.
Scorpio will also need to be cost appropriate otherwise, whats the point, you can always buy more power, but people don't want to pay.

Which is amazing, that a person decide that something is better for them, so obviously anyone enjoying something else is wrong and should be talk down to or told how they are wrong.
I don't care for performance boost that needs a patch.
If you decide you like power, then it would make sense that 31% is a bigger boost than 7%.
But, clearly some people here feel otherwise, and that's fine by me.
Some people here only like performance if it's in an unpatched game. I don't understand that either.
In a world where patches have become the norm, not the exception (and a necessity tbh, as they're the only way to improve software already released and ffs this is the digital age we're talking about), I'm trying to understand the logic where a marginal boost with no patching is more impressive and appealing than a bigger improvement with a patch.
Why make a PRO patch for infamous and not Bloodborn....

First the tech wasn't there in 2013 and second it would've made the console that time cost like $700 or more to producePS4 pro is what Ps4 should of been imo.
