Creating a job for your own crafting requirements is such a neat little idea.

It's so smart and yet so simple that makes you wonder why it hasn't been used in other games
at least not in those i have played.
. Boring fetch quests can at least now have a cause for the player.

I don't know if they upped the ante in UC4 but this is most definitely not true in the first three, and the two recent Tomb Raider games were embarrassing in terms of narrative and characterisation, comparable to DmC. Have you played them?

To claim Horizon will have such amateur writing is an insult to the game.

(Why are you making me pay attention to this?) Seriously, this is not true, I'm sure there are facts, guidelines in screenwriting that demostrate what you say is... well, wrong.

(You're right about the first Tomb Raider though, never played the second).

Edit: Sorry everyone, I couldn't let this one pass, it's stronger than me.

Anyone have any details or samples of soundtrack?? its really baffling they didn't release something regarding this.

Oh right! you reminded me that I have to see who's composing this. I actually liked what I've heared.

Edit: Joe Henson, Joris de Man, Alexis Smith.

Already confirmed if the leaks are to be believed. If they pull it off well I don't mind the twist much, but calling her Aloy really isn't subtle at all

The leaks aren't to be believed. They've been debunked several times.

Not saying that it won't happen, but the leaks got a lot of stuff wrong already based on the other details they gave.

Those "leaks" have been disproven many times over from the sound of it.

I kind of wish night time was inherently darker but I can live with this. Also are those working street lights below? What are those glowing things? robots?

1/10

Only one tree.

3/10

Too many trees.

I just noticed that the fluid in the canisters slosh around. That's a nice little detail

Yep, you can see it clearly slosh around in a fire Bellowback robot.

Outdoor fire lamps.

man this looks so gooooooooooooooood

I agree.

Yooo now that you have pointed it out, that's pretty neat ha.
I've alway found it's the little things that really elevate some open worlds above others. It was mentioned earlier how a lot of open worlds can seem so static despite all the advancements; the compounding effect of those details give the world character and a liveliness

Like how Aloy smoothly shifts her position atop a mount to aim. It's a small thing, but it also subtly shows how skilled and proficient she is, bringing to mind the horseback archery skills of the Mongols and similar civilizations

Ah fair play. Grandoise plot twists like that are almost always absolute shit unless they're done well.

They really cheaped out on the voice acting it seems, not feeling it at all.

Good twists in video games for me.

I think it's mostly fine, aside from THAT one NPC. Not great but acceptable and on par with something like Dragon Age Inquisition. The main story stuff seems noticeably higher quality, which is to be expected.

I don't know, map doesn't seems that big for a 552 pages Strategy Guide.

I'm sure there will be dozens of pages of artwork and other filler stuff. That said the size of the map doesn't directly translate to how much content there will be. It sounds like there are several of the cauldron/dungeons and they can be quite lengthy and complex. Those won't really add to the map size as they seem to be undergroun, in caves, etc.

I'd say very few games can do big twists well, but the Ace Attorney series is the master of doing them well.

999 and Virtue's Last Reward were incredible when it came to twists too.

I hope Horizon doesn't try and do this though, I still think games are a very weak medium when it comes to pulling off more textured storytelling. It's doable, but you need a talented writer and an off-the-wall scenario to pull it off well.

Question: is there ambient music while freeroaming? Like in TW3, for instance.

I've mostly been on blackout as far as gameplay goes.

Agreed on all points.

Personally, I'm hoping they just look at the Witcher (not necessarily 3) or even someone like Naughty Dog and focus on telling a story about the characters in this world. I don't mind the world being a character itself, but I dislike it in games when the lore and world takes precedence over the characters.

Yes!! There is definitely ambient music but they(guerrilla) really lacked in showcasing any of it , should have done separate video about sounds. but i have heard myself in some previews.

I think it is the most beautiful open world RPG ever made.

I remember some people didn't believe that the reveal gameplay was running on an actual PS4. And now after almost 2 years, the game not only looks better but also runs better than its reveal.

Yeah, that is just insanely beautiful. Wow.

Yeah, if The Last of Us had a random plot twist at the end about how the clickers were actually still conscious people, or some shit like that, like yeah, conceptually that's all "whoa" but it'd take away focus from the characterisation and main story.

The little revelation about the fireflies true intentions was small and subtle enough. Nothing too grand.

As much as I'm usually quite critical of narrative direction in cinematic games, TLoU did a pretty damn good job.

I have a feeling you'll like Horizon. it is much more action than skyrim and witcher. but it has more rpg element than assassin creed, tomb raider or infamous.

for the action, it's mainly ranged combat, so it's a bit more shooter feel than typical rpg like witcher and skyrim. and some games you mention liked are shooter, and games like Last of Us really ask you to be precise with your aim, looking for headshot to preserve ammo etc. in Horizon, you also need to be precise with your aiming, target specific spot for good damage.

the game structure is more typical open world rpg though. which could be problematic for you since you mention you can't get into skyrim, witcher.

but imo, game structure is less of a problem if you already like the core combat gameplay. at the very least, you can just rush to the next story point and just focus on the combat.

and the combat in this looks great, the machines are in particular looks very unique and fun to fight, they had a lot of moves and attack animation compared to your typical shooter enemies. and even when you already discover how to kill 1 of them with ease, the game can mix them up and let you fight multiple enemies at once etc.

The game world in Horizon looks like it would be really fun to explore and it's definitely a looker. Thanks for the information. I think I would really like it. The combat does look fun though. I might be able to get through the dialog as long as it's actually interesting enough. There was a lot of dialog in Beyond: Two Souls and I didn't mind that. Also, I really enjoy Telltale games.

The only thing that turns me off of typical RPG games is how complex they make them. Sometimes I just wanna play the game and not have to worry about scavenging and crafting using complex menus and stuff. The crafting made a lot of sense to me in The Last of Us, so I didn't mind that one, but I watch my wife play Skyrim and Witcher and I just get so lost.

One last question... is this game capped at 30fps or is it uncapped? I ask because I hate variable frame rates that range from 30-60fps... I'd rather have the come really close to a set target of either 30 or 60, but not fluctuate too far between them.

Capped 30.

That's some cool ingrained lore. Love it.

It's your sister, Olara! Are you out therrrre?

lmao wanna do a second take on that?

Austin Walker has said the voice acting has been a "rough mix". Other criticisms on top of the positives he lays out, the humans don't fare as well as the robots in terms of AI and combat. The characterisation and tone is uninteresting, self-serious, humorless, and stoic. Hopefully, no one expecting much from the story.

More of Far Cry than Witcher where it's podcast-friendly and don't have to be too focused on story outcomes. "I'm interested in the world but I never felt like I was captured by Aloy, I care what's happening to her. It's not a Ubisoft game, but boy". But it doesn't have the systemic interactions as much as Far Cry in terms of using the animals to your advantage.

"If you're having open world fatigue, you're still going to have open world fatigue [with Horizon Zero Dawn]. It is one of those games. There are towers to climb. There are lots of sidequests. There are challenge mode things...Lots of crafting to one specific thing, like upgrade your ammo packs, upgrades how many traps you can carry, it does very much feel like it's in the Fary Cry state of things".

"As someone who plays a lot of open world games, I'm way more interested in the surprising systemic stuff that might come out of [Legend Of Zelda] Breath Of The Wild."

If you need crafting material, you have an option to generate a little mission where the reward is the material you need

I need to watch that part again but I thought it was that the game will show you where to find the materials you need. Like in W3 where the game will highlight which materials you need for a formula when you're in a merchant selection menu -- this will literally tell you where the items are in the world to find yourself.

Honestly, I'm fine with either. I would rather though the lore and world take precedence over character story though obviously it would be nice to have both (well unless I'm playing a game like BEthesda games where I want to play my own character... then I bitch when their character story takes precedence over my character creation *cough* Fallout 4 *cough*). Because for me exploration is a super fun part of game playing and lore and world really entice that. Plus I like post apocalypse games and I love having bits that say what life was like before or little stories of what happened to people during/right after the apocalypse. New Vegas's Honest Hearts DLC had one of my favorite game side stories where you only find out as you find notes from a guy who had survived the apocalypse and his stories after. I bet anyone who has played that DLC knows which one I'm talking about as it is a well talked about one. There's also the story of what happened to vault 11. Another more lore/world story that is epic. For me part of the why I love post apocalypse games is finding out about the world before/during the apocalypse by finding bits and pieces that give you hints. I love uncovering that stuff and it is a big motivation to me to encourage me to explore.
