Ghost of Yotei |OT| Jin there, done that

Heck man....I was defending the game from the very beginning when folks went nuts about it having a female protag. Never a hater. Just didn't like the shit that happened. Don't want to make the thread about that though.

I wasn't talking about you. But like you said, lets just talk about the game. I shouldn't have brought it up.

Played an hour and 30 minutes or so now. Utterly stunning on the pro, anyone who says otherwise is delusional.
Didn't expect it to go so heavy on the kill bill/samurai themed western kinda vibes either, loving that.
Atsu's voice as a kid in english is awful, my only complaint so far.

Played 2 hours now going to bed.

My early thoughts are this, I feel far less interested in the story over the first one. I guess because I feel like the introduction to this character was so sudden, im unsure how to describe it, but by the time the title screen rolled in Tsushima I had a much better grasp of Jin than I do of the protagonist in Yotei.

Iv done a few more flash backs and a few side quests at the nearby Inn and im not yet sure who Atsu is and this makes it diffcult to connect, this was not an issue in the first game, im unsure why it is here. So far she could just be some Elden Ring tarnised I made myself, there's nothing there right now.

I do have one complaint already though.
Whenever you're riding a horse the aspect ratio changes to look more cinematic I guess. There's no option to disable it currently...

I don't remember this happening in Tsushima or have I forgotten?
Just read about a solution. Pressing R3 cycles through different views while on horseback. Seems there are 3 views total, 2 without bars.

Might be useful to put that in the OP cormack12 cormack12 , as I've seen a couple of reviewers go through the entire game and call it out as a negative without even knowing about this option.

Same here. Loved the company for InFamous and the first Ghost game, defended it against morons hating just because Jin was replaced by a GuRl!!!!!!! then the toxicity hit from within their dev team, then they fired it.

Still think I'll wait and get the game used or on a deep sale since it's basically just gender dlc.

And another one:

Silent Hill f, FF Tactics and Yōtei all in the past 7 days, what a time to be alive. I want to wrap up my NG+ playthroughs of Silent Hill and I'm focused on Tactics but looking forward to digging in sometime within the next couple of weeks 👌

I think you can press L3 or R3 to change the view and the ratio.

I've been waiting for my hype for this to kick in since it was announced, but it finally did upon booting it up just now. Ready to tune out the online chatter surrounding this game and just get immersed on hard difficulty with some Japanese VO.

Intro was very sudden, but after about an hour or so I found my groove with it but I did need to switch over to Japanese language with English subs. Its a looker for sure on the pro. Playing on a C4 and the picture quality is fantastic.
Is there a 120hrz mode hidden somewhere in the settings or just the special "PS 5 Pro Required" mode at 60?

Yeah, the graphics are REALLY nice. Character models and environment have had a nice upgrade. Just getting started.

Miike mode is disgusting, just the way I like it. The animations are so good. One of my finishing blows had me do a forward roll with the enemy while slicing him. So good!

How the developers felt while making the calligraphy part of the intro:

Jokes aside, the game looks pretty good so far with the Ray Tracing Pro setting.

Fantastic start. Both the intro and the inn area are standouts.

Playing on hard mode and it definitely is hard. Generous checkpoints so far too if you die which makes it the right kind of challenge too.

I'm not too sure the bull shit they were spewing about how they made the open world check list to do everything better actually is any better. It's more obtuse perhaps but you're still cleaning the map going from point of interests doing hum ho open world things. So far 0 have repeated though.

Having watched so many videos, it seems the enemy animations have changed quite a bit from yesterday after the day 1 patch. They are all blended well with smooth transitions, and feet not floating above ground or sinking under. Hard to tell RT improvements with the garbo streaming quality.

Can't play till tomorrow. Aaaargh!

Hmm, double tapping O doesn't do a roll for me. Can you guys confirm that ability isn't possible at the start of the game? Didn't think that needs to be unlocked.

If it's anything like GoT both will be fantastic. I played GoT with japanese dub for atmosphere, but what I heard of the english dub was A.
Japanese audio seems A+ with pretty good lip sync as well. But I simply can't choose that for games because I don't want to be looking at subtitles during gameplay. I don't know how people manage, to be honest :'(

Just found out I won't be getting the game as the eBay seller I had purchased it from 2 months ago is fraudulent. Great.

Going to have to wait until it's on sale now unless they give me a voucher to pay the discounted price I paid. Sadge.

Got my first ass shot. Much nicer than Jin's. I just beat GoT and this just feels better in every way. Just basic movement feels quality in comparison. Took my first screen next to the hot spring. The graphics are so good. Got Heavenly strike already and it's nice having the grapple hook already. The climbing feels better too. You actually have to press X to jump from spot to spot this time and she actually climbs instead of hopping from rock to rock.

Well I'm AuDHD so I tend to use subtitles even with dubs in my own language. They keep me anchored and prevent me from going to my phone. So a lot of times I'd say "Eh, given that I'm going to be reading anyway, better go for broke"

I have work in the morning so I only played the intro.. Kurosawa mode stacked with Miike mode and Japanese audio is fucking gorgeous. I'm definitely playing the entire game like this.

Young Atsu's voice sounds like it's just her adult VO with a voice filter, which makes her sound like Craig from South Park.

Also, am I missing something or is there no way to disable the letterboxing while on horseback? I don't like it and I didn't see it in the options.

I think I read its l3 or r3

Click the sticks to switch between at least 3 modes I believe. I turned it off right away.

Btw, I have confirmed that you need to unlock the roll in the survival tree. It's the first node so no biggie. I wanted to get another special move but I better get the roll to put fires out lol

Ah reading through this thread and the temptation to just buy this is very real! The Kill Bill style villains has me much more interested than the plot from GoT. I can also get this for under £55 from Argos so it's even more tempting.

Never really got into Tsushima for whatever reason, but the intro of Yotei has me hooked.
No pointless blather or boring, never-ending exposition. You get thrown into action quite swiftly, and thank God, I like the gameplay/combat.
I opted for lethal difficulty, which isn't that hard after all, as soon as I realized that simply holding L1 to parry does the job already, no need to press it at the right moment.
Also like the fact that, with the right movement, you can break up enemy formation to fight them more like one after the other.
So, very early impressions are great.

That needed to be unlocked in the first game as well. You don't start with the roll, although it is the very first skill in the "evasion" section of Ghost of Tsushima.

My first impressions with only about an hour into Yotei are very positive. A couple of very quick observations:

- Just like that Digital Foundry impression, the audio seems way improved.
- Mechanics feel much smoother in general, for example the horse controls and the grappling hook.
- The side content feels like it's delivered in a much more natural way, and the telescope thingy you use is a great way to see where you want to go into the distance without having to just open the map up everytime.
- The weather effects such as rain look fantastic. There's also little touches that add to the overall immersion, such as the wind from your katana swing moving the grass around. Dualsense implementation is also great, but it also was in Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, so it was to be expected.

This is the first game that really has me wishing I had a Pro. I tried to give the 30 fps raytracing mode a shot, and it looks really good. But I just can't not have 60fps in a combat heavy game like this. I started on Hard difficulty and the 30fps was just not doing it for me. So I'm playing in performance mode.

only 5 hours deep and this is a special game.

It's much better than the original, very polished. Sound design and visuals are amazing, it does not have the best photorealistic graphics of say DS2, but it makes up for it with artstyle for days.

So many vistas and moments of awe as the sun cracks through trees and mountains as you glide around. Swordplay is also amazing)

Went Japanese audio and im hooked. Much better intro than Tsushima. Raytracing mode at 60 fps on pro is as good as it gets. Also turned off the hud and playing on hard.
