This red head is hot, by the way. Who is she?

Back back on topic, Rabe kind of does it for me. She's unique looking. She was hot as the nun mainly because of the way her hair was styled and what have you. This whole Stevie Nicks dirty hippy chic they're going for in this season isn't doing it for me.

Fun show so far.

I wonder if Voodoo is something that can be taught unlike magic that is inherited. I could see Kathy Bates' character learning voodoo somehow to exact revenge (Unless she is a suppressed witch or something)

Lange, Bassett and Bates are firestorms on screen, even if Bates hasn't yet been brought to bear.

Rabe is a fantastic wild card.

Great second episode.

In the featurette in the OP, they mention that Voodoo "choose you" so I assume it's a similar situations to witches. I also think that, of all people, Marie wouldn't want a bar of Lalaurie after their history together.

Then again seeing how Sister Jude ended up after the first three episodes of Asylum - this show can and will do anything with their characters lol

Oh I see, I guess Marie would think she'd be above all the Voodoo stuff.
I just wonder how they'll fit her into the story when she is at an obvious disadvantage to the rest of the characters. Surely they wouldn't get someone like Kathy Bates in to just be a pawn and be abused by other people. Maybe the immortality potion suped her up? Who knows. It's what makes this show so good, never having a clue where it's heading

....well she is immortal so I guess she's got one up over Fiona, at least. :p

Fiona is already seething so much and it's only been one episode since Marie has been dug up
She will reinvent the meaning of pressed

Jessica Lange has got to be one of the best actors of all time. Put her together with Kathy Bates and the results are incredible. It was so subtle but theres something incredible going on in that scene on the bench at the end of the episode. It was brilliant and it was like they weren't even trying all at the same time!

I know! I can't wait to see how it all builds up. The seething is only just starting to happen and when it does come out it's going to be monstrous.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Lily Rabe wasn't really something for me because my first experience with her was in Nip Tuck when she ate some of her boyfriends flesh to stay alive while stranded in a mountain. I couldn't really find that attractive.

Guess I'm going to have to go back through that series to find this.

This red head is hot, by the way. Who is she?

Not watching Suits...

Lange is phenomenal, out of all the seasons I feel as if this is the role she fits the best. Also the way she tosses people into walls is just so satisfying.

Lange always looks like she's on the verge of having a breakdown and a subsequent rampage of murder.

It's the rage-filled eyes, man. Murder eyes.

I like this show more when it's celebrating weirdness. Trying to play it as a straight supernatural-drama isn't really working for me. :|

Show is just meh, it started off so well too. First part with Bates in old NO was great then it just went down hill. Why isn't the show dark, creepy, and scary?

Finally got to watch the second episode and I enjoyed it.

Anyone else feel like Misty and Zoe are going to become lovers? That look Misty gave her when they were sitting on her bed made it seem like she was about to kiss Zoe.

Did Nan say when Zoe fell in love again that it would be with a dude?

From the first episode, when all 4 of the young witches were sitting at the table together.

Nan:
"It WAS an accident Zoe.
And you will find love again. A strange and unexpected love."

I get the feeling Ryan and/or FX don't really care about home media, do they?

They never do cool boxsets of American Horror Story and I still can't find Nip Tuck on bluray anywhere T_T

They're going for a lighter tone this season after Asylum was so relentlessly dark.

I hope it gets a little bit darker though, I don't want it to necessarily reach the depths that Asylum did but right now it's easily the least creepiest one of the three thus far. I mean, there's a huge disparity between what's shown in the opening credits and what's actually shown.

I still think Coven is the most refined of the three series, based on what we've seen, but it's tone is also dramatically different.

I got lesbian teas from Misty in the hut too, probably need to watch it again to analyse things though

Ryan has spoken about Misty (as has Lily Rabe) in the interviews I linked. Basically, he implies
Misty isn't actually a lesbian but just really loves and is interested in others

Well the only reason she did that was because
they killed the crocodiles, she was doing it for the nature as a kind of punishment I guess
.

But you're pretty spot on, she is truly pure. It's almost like a complete 180 from her character in Asylum.

There is a huge disparity between the credits and the show, the opening scene with Kathy Bates and the rest of the show, and the teaser trailer and the show. Overall, I feel like I got duped. Going to give the show one or two more episodes...hopefully it starts paying off.

Well... that Minotaur is still running around. And eventually, you know there's gonna be creepy baby shit... again. Plus... the

cometh.

I'm telling you all, there won't be babies again! Ryan is too self aware.

I'm perched for when they introduce the
.....Axeman
though. It's gonna hopefully become a bit more morbid.

Two new updates, one is great but one is really depressing.

The depressing news first: -

Without Jessica Lange, FX’s “American Horror Story” falls apart. Lange, who has been the lead in all three seasons, has become the glue that makes each and every episode worth watching. In my opinion, it’s some of the best acting I have ever seen. While we have the ongoing third season to enjoy, it’s painful to hear that she’s tapping out after one more.

Lange is halfway into filming Season 3 of “American Horror Story,” known as “Coven,” and though she’s relishing in her character Fiona Goode’s sleek stilettos, there is an end in sight. “I’ll do one more season,” the actress says tells Buzzfeed of the FX franchise that’s added an Emmy and a Golden Globe to her collection, which already included two Oscars. Just a couple of weeks ago, “American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy said, “Every year, she says, ‘OK, that’s my last one.’” But after Season 4, Lange will say goodbye to the series for good. “That’ll be it,” she tells the site.

As for her fourth and final season of “American Horror Story,” Lange knows a sliver of what’s coming, but she’s well trained in the Ryan Murphy School of Lip-Zipping. “I’m very excited,” she says simply with a smile.

It’s a gut punch hearing this news, although, at least the show will end with a bang instead of a whimper. Any guesses as to the arc of the fourth season?

And the good news:

With partial DVR data now available for the first two episodes of American Horror Story: Coven, FX's latest entry in the anthology series is proving to be remarkably steady -- and huge. Ahead of Live+Seven Day ratings, both episodes are already outpacing all but one other telecast (Sons of Anarchy) in network history.

Upping its time-shifted viewing in the second week to leave the audience virtually on par with the massive premiere (7.121 versus 7.266 million in Live+Three), Coven actually improved its lot among adults 18-34. The new record, 2.945 million in the demo, now outranks the network's all-time top performer across the board (the recent season-six premiere of Sons).

Among adults 18-49, the second episode of Coven is also neck-and-neck with its premiere -- falling a touch from a 4.98 to 4.92 million demo viewers. That's a difference of less than a tenth of a ratings point.

Compared to the previous two seasons in the American Horror Story franchise, Coven is outpacing Asylum by 41 percent in the key demo and Murder House by a whopping 90 percent.

Looking at FX's top 50 telecasts of all time, all of which save Coven include the extra four days of DVR use, 18 of the top 20 are all Sons of Anarchy. The first two episodes of Coven currently hold the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, and the most recent episode is on track to topple the premiere when Live+Seven is available for both.

So what does that mean? Barring a serious drop in momentum, Coven may end up rivaling the current run of veteran Sons of Anarchy as the highest-rated season of any show in the cable network's history.

When Lange's done, I'm done.

I mean, Ryan Murphy has a point - she said that Asylum might've been her last and she wasn't sure if she was returning for Coven or not. I hope she's just got this Hideo Kojima angle going on because she really is brilliant.

I mean, it's possible that the show could still go on without Lange, but they'd have to do some pretty hard work. I honestly could see Kathy Bates and Frances Conroy doing a good job without her - and Bates herself has been signed onto S4 (apparently) and I'm sure Fran will be returning too.

I don't know, I'm happy enough that we're getting her for another season after this.

But hopefully she wins the Emmy this time around (Laura Linney? I mean c'mon!). Maybe that would give her a bit of a push to stay on longer.

I'd be upset if Lange goes but I wouldn't just tune out. The show has a p;plethora of strong actors/actresses. It would survive well without her

I'll be out once Lange goes too. Unless they manage to keep Kathy Bates for season five if a season five happens.

I dunno, I'd love to see Angela Bassett take up the mantle depending on how her character plays out this season. She's got a such a powerful presence.

This episode had so many great lines. The "Did we just marry the devil because I don't know if I'm down with that." was probably my favorite.

There were definitely some lesbian-vibes from Misty side.

I hope by the time Jessica Lange retires human clonation will become a real thing. I don't think humanity is ready to lose her.

New episode tonight!

It's disappointing, but it had to happen sooner or later. At least we're getting one more season with her.

Also, it's not like Lange is the only good actress in the world - there are plenty of actresses (or actors) just as talented who could easily take over the "glue" role that Lange has occupied for going on two seasons now.

Oooooh, please let Bassett become a regular. PLEASE

Yes! Seconded!
