that line from kathy bates about her kid looking like a hippo killed me. the strengths of this season are clearly in the adult characters. the kids are not keeping up at all. especially the killer vagina.

Saw the advert for this, looks quite interesting, i know they are stand alone stories but are Murder House and Asylum worth watching before this?

sleepy hollow got kind of boring in the last couple episodes.
Great start and then it just plummeted for me.

AHS holds up my interest.

Personally SH I like better and better every week, this last episode being my favorite yet.
killing it on the mythology(Headless Horseman, Four Horsemen, Witches, Sandman, dang Roanoke Colony)

When I heard the theme announced for this I instantly thought this would be the best season based on that alone.
It just doesn't feel like its living up to the promise of the theme or setting yet.
Secondly where is the "Horror" at, even Asylum had a great amount from the start.
The creature and claw dude in the intro are it, so far.
Show would be much better without the focus on the young characters imo.

I wonder which clearly ill advised magic ritual will have more negative effects: the snake baby making one or the marrying the devil resurrection spell.

This season is gonna get insane, they've already introducing a shitload of plot point and I expect them to bring even more. More shows should be like this, completely new scenario every season but with the same talented writers and actors so that the characters and their stories don't get stale.

That's my take as well, don't give a crap about the kid witches at all. They're only good for when Lange is kicking their ass.

Man I'm really liking Jessica Lange and Gabourey Sidibe this season. I think they're doing things at a great pace. Like people have said I can't wait to see how the spells used this episode end up backfiring.

I wonder if there is a connection between Zoe's death vagina and Cordelia being unable to have kids without using magic.

There's two new interviews that have gone up following the airing of last nights episode.

The first is with Ryan Murphy, creator. He goes into considerable detail of where the series is headed (including a very vague answer to whether Cordelia's sex spell thing was succesful or not) but doesn't give away too much but if you want to be blind I don't recommend reading it.

From reading the interview, all I will say is that I'm very excited for what's to come. They're introducing a shitload of new characters in the next two episodes and there's going to be a lot happening.

The second is with Lily Rabe, who plays Misty Day. She's actually very reserved about where her character and the story is headed so it's pretty safe to read if you want some insight into the actress behind the character. She seems really nice. :3

I wonder if there is a connection between Zoe's death vagina and Cordelia being unable to have kids without using magic.

On Zoe, I picked up something in this episode. Zoe says to Madison "guess we just weren't powerful enough" when the resurrection spell initially fails. But then Zoe does something and the spell seemingly works. I think this might be a subtle piece of evidence to chalk up to Zoe being something more than a basic witch.

I hate Zoe.

Queen Mare Winningham is a guest star. You may know her from the iconic cult thriller Miracle Mile

Great episode. Set up so many interesting plot points
Really wondering where the Lady Mary Satan story will go. I'm assuming she'll go back to the school with everyone else

Agreed. All of the adult characters are well acted and very intriguing at this point, while the only young character I find to be at all compelling is Queenie.

I haven't seen season one or any season three yet, but I was very impressed with Asylum. It was pulpy as hell, but the ending was surprisingly moving.

I mean, that stormy-movie-night episode was just incredible, through-and-through.

What are the chances of a Stevie Nicks cameo? I would die.

AHS is such an odd show - this season particularly - in that my reaction swings between horror and wanting to shout 'yaaaaaass' at the screen and snap my fingers in a z-formation. So you get Jessica Lange and Angela Basset trading insults in fabulous manner one second and then you get FrankenKyle being stitched together in the next. It's not bad, necessarily, but it shouldn't really work, but somehow it does.

Queen LuPone arrives next week and I can't wait. I hope Troll Murphy doesn't kill her off.

I wonder who dies next week? My money's on either Nan or Madison - Queenie is clearly going to have a decent run of a storyline with Lalaurie and Zoe has FrankenKyle. Of course they may well not stay dead for very long.

I can't help but wish the entire season had been set in the past. Not really digging the modern day scenes yet, but I'm enjoying the season so far.

If they kill off nan I will be livid. I'm thinking potentially the head mistress' husband due to that ritual

If you want to know more than what the preview shows, in the interview linked earlier Murphy says
Nan's origin story will come later in the series, so it's unlikely she will die soon.

That's what I figured based on her comments at the end of the episode, but it makes me wonder
how she made the Minotaur
. Maybe it will be resolved later.

I think she just put the cow's head on the guy as a form of torture/art and then the Voodoo Queen made it permanent as punishment for sexing Kathy Bates' daughter.

I was just wondering this myself. Your spoilered section that is.

Why punish Kathy bates then?

I don't know if it's necessarily punishment. We don't know the details as to why she would keep him in that state. We do know that he's immortal, and the only person who can do that thus far is the Voodoo Queen.

I'd assume that when the bulls head was put on the guy they would have permanently attached it to him. Just sticking an animal head on someone seems much to tame for someone like her.

But how could a non-witch permanently attach the head to the dude?

Good episode. The scene was Emma Roberts was greatly appreciated.

Not sure I like the idea of a Frankenstein running around, but it solves the problem killer vagina has in that if he's already dead and regains any sense of normal brain function, she'll be able to hump his brains out without having to worry about him dying.

Kathy Bates being immortal...hmm. I was sure she was a witch or something else entirely, but it seems she was just a plain old human who enjoyed eating slaves kidneys and bathing in their blood.

The scene with Bassett and Lange was great I thought, some nice tension throughout that will hopefully feature a lot more in future episodes. And what was the deal with her Minotaur husband? If bates' character isn't a witch, etc how is he still alive? Did Bassett curse him to an eternal life of living as a Minotaur? Bizarre.

That's a really harsh punishment for cheating, especially in the situation they were in.

Well, it's not like the Voodoo Queen is a very good person either. After seeing him with the minotaur head, she probably thought he'd be much more useful to her in that state. She saw the potential in having a minotaur henchman, so she chose to keep him that way instead of returning him to his normal self.

Need to watch the episode again, but maybe it was just crudely sewn on.

Sewing was my train of thought. We didn't see anything in the episode but thinking that she got someone to sew it on after, considering what the other slaves were like, really wouldn't be too hard to believe

Either way I think the Voodoo Queen's bf would have died down there (I'm assuming this because when she found him he didn't react to her at all) which means the immortality potion wouldn't work, so she just brought him back to use as a weapon out of not wanting to let go of him and a need to use him. The end clip seems to suggest he is more animal now than human anyway, so something must have gone wrong.

I missed the end clip, what happened?

I saw episode 1 yesterday; it wasn't permanently attached. Just hollowed out and stuck on his head. It wobbled around when he moved IIRC.

I guess voodoo lady could snap her fingers and have it replace his normal head from there.

He was just grunting and growling. Nothing happened.

Yeah, in that interiew I posted with Ryan, he talks about who Mare is playing. I'll spoiler it just in case.

Will we meet his mother?

Oh yes. The next episode. That is a great, great part. I went after Mare Winningham, who I have loved loved loved from afar and I want her to join the American Horror Story family, and I’ve always loved her work. So I wrote this part with the writers. She did it as a favor and she’s quite spectacular in it, I think. She’s some Ninth District white trash. Mare Winningham really knocks it out of the park and has to do some incredible things.

Been enjoying it so far. I like the school girls fucking about.
It's been very "The Craft" to me but with a nastier edge which I like. I agree the adults are carrying the show though. Lange in particular just chews scenery with the best of them.
