The sound in my theater was also garbage. Can't wait to see it again tomorrow somewhere loud.

Honestly, Im a huge audiophile so that probably had the biggest effect on me thinking the movie was shit ( apart from EXTREEEEMEEEE CLOSE UP #1102039), a buddy is taking me to see it in imax next week, so maybe that'll change my opinion. It's just hard to come to grips with the amazingly horrible sound mix after furious 7.

The only real issues I had with the movie were Ultron's personality. It just seemed wrong and off. All of his quips and jokes-weren't funny at all. And at the end he seemed to show compassion for Wanda for some odd reason. Other than that-I loved nearly all of it. Vision was just fucking perfect.

1. GOTG
2. Ultron
3. Avengers
4. Iron Man
5. Winter Soldier
6. Thor
7. Iron Man 3
8. Iron Man 2
9. Thor 2
10. Incredible Hulk
11. First Avenger

Ultron was top tier blockbuster greatness!

Damn I can't argue with that list lol, would've ranked it pretty much the same. I might knock Avengers 1 below Iron Man, other than that perfect.

I just saw it tonight. It was pretty good, but I wish the plot were a little more interesting. Winter Soldier has been the only Marvel movie with an engaging storyline, but they are all too predictable.

I loved his initial form and speech. Wish that was kept a little longer before he turned into his family friendly cartoon form.

Movie was ok. I liked the first one better. Everything felt so rushed, but maybe that was just me. Haven't read many other opinions.

Vision was pretty fucking cool, though.

Not gonna lie...the movie was pretty terrible.

Wait how is there such a distaste for Transformers movies but not for this movie?

Because they're far and away better movies than anything in the Transformers series.

Incredible Hulk is a better movie than any transformers movie. That big ol' green turd.

I'll echo that Ultron could have been a bit more menacing of a villain, but that doesn't mean he was a bad one overall.

James Spader absolutely killed it, and I think it is at least as good as Avengers 1, which was elevated a lot just because nobody really thought a huge cast like that could work at the time so most of us were shocked that it did. Now that we know it can, I think we expect more than just "working"

The film had the unfortunate task of following Winter Soldier and Guardians, which is arguably the MCU at it's peak up until this point. Still I thought it was great overall. Great popcorn flick with some good humor (If Whedon banter is your thing) and a story you shouldn't think too much about.

Acting dialogue story charming characters character development story tension editing charm story characters cinematography plot story writing dialogue editing pacing acting story editing charm tension character development etc

If you really have to ask what the difference is between this and Transformers there's a good chance that no one would ever be able to explain it to you logically and I assure you I am not being rude.

Both don't really have a plot.
Both don't really have funny jokes.
Both rely on explosions.
Both have pretty lame/cheesy dialogue
You can't take either seriously

Avengers probably has more likable characters (but only because those characters were expanded on in their own movies)

But at least Transformers has a bad guy.

You know, I was going to comment that calling a movie like Iron Man 3 "trash" is ignoring what trash-level movies are actually like, before I remembered that in a text I told a friend that Amazing Spider-Man 2 might be a film literally made out of pure, tangible garbage

I don't feel like being a hypocrite at the moment, so carry on

Yeah....i vomit a little in my mouth when I think about that movie.

There's a plot in AoU, far better than any Transformers plot. The first 2 acts were cut to ribbons though and were admittedly sloppy and rushed.
You're in the minority with the jokes. Most people, though not everyone, enjoys them.
Explosions are cool
See the second line
They're not meant to be serious movies

Amazing movie. Loved it much more than the first, which was really forgettable for me.

Another thing, the action in this movie is fucking un-real. Especially if you compare it to the first one. The set pieces, one after another, god damn.

1) Captain America: The Winter Soldier
2) Guardians of the Galaxy
3) Avengers: Age of Ultron
4) Avengers
5) Iron Man
6) Thor: The Dark World
7) Iron Man 3
8) Thor
9) Captain America: The First Avenger
10) Iron Man 2
11) The Incredible Hulk

That's my list. Ultron was goooood.

The negative points of this film is kinda like a combination between The Dark Knight Rises and Iron Man 2. In that it's overstuffed with too much advertisement.
Granted it does a better job dealing with those problems then those two films (I like all three).

It still seems I like Ultron more than most though.

Saw it tonight and loved it. I don't know if I had lower expectations due to the middling reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The thing is, I think the film has huge flaws but just didn't mind them too much. The Banner/Natasha love story felt forced, and seemed to come out of nowhere, and Hawkeye's family life wasn't really needed. It seemed like because these characters don't have their own movies for character development that a lot of screen time was devoted to fleshing them out, and as a result there was just a bunch of time wasted on plots for characters that aren't all that interesting. The film hit a huge slot once they got to Hawkeye's house, but I loved the movie before and after this sequence so by the end I pretty much forgot how bored I was for half an hour. I also think that the film probably works much better as a part of the MCU than it does a standalone film, but as I can only view it as the former then this flaw doesn't pertain to my enjoyment.

Basically, this film had a whole lot of Avengers being Avengers, and when big action sequences were happening I was giddy with joy. I do think that as a film the first movie is better, but I enjoyed Ultron much more. I also like how much it opened up the MCU, and I feel like it's the tipping point for these films going full on comic book weird, (or as close to it as we'll get on film) which I'm very ready for.

The Iron Man 3 praise in this thread makes me laugh. That movie is trash of the highest order. If there's a movie that illustrates all of the issues that I have with the MCU, it's Iron Man 3.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than when Iron Man 3 haters cry bitter salty tears. It's like you guys just can't accept that someone actually made a good movie out of what would have basically been a trash-tier villain who was a racist stereotype from days gone by. Lololol. :P

Both you guys are laughing more than I did while watching Iron Man 3.

Ultra needed to lose the lips and I wasn't feeling Spader as his VO. Needed something baritone and less smarmy. Wasn't as intimidating.

I don't care how much the "Shane Black saved it from being a disaster" and "lol you guys still salty bout that twist!" crowd try to convince me otherwise. The movie is garbage.

I don't need to convince you of anything. I love the movie and that's all that matters. I'm just laughing at you.

Great movie, while it suffers from having too many action scenes where many things happen at once, the film managed to keep my interest with calmer scenes where we get to know the characters better.
Disappointed that Hawkeye is Ultimate Hawkeye and not Hawkguy. Let's hope the writer will not follow the retarded storyline in Ultimates where Black Widow betrays everyone and slaughters Hawkeye's family.
Also, wtf with Quicksilver death, what a waste
It hyped me for phase 3.

I literally thought when it was revealed that Hawkeye had a family "Holy shit they better not go Ultimate Hawkeye on us"

They can't be that dumb. There's no chance at all.

My god...I really need to read some Ultimate just to experience the dread.

I enjoyed this much more than avengers 1. The plot (and villain's inception) is kind of a fucking hacked up mess but I appreciate that it tries to give us a story here unlike the first. And while it fumbles it at least gives me something to be interested in throughout. Action was better, captain america is no longer a scrub thank god. All his shield moves were cool.

The intro and party scenes really established that this team is firmly digged into their universe. I really liked the party scene especially because of that.

Honestly though...I'd put this about on par with Man of Steel. A lot of fanboys on neogaf will take one and piss on the other but i see both as average and flawed spectacles within the genre. Their takes on collateral damage are both completely valid too. Avengers is the Wonderful World of Disney where you miraculously get maybe one human casualty in the midst of
a giant hulk battle and also half a floating city later on in the film
whereas with Man of Steel you get intentional 9/11 parallels to showcase the damage battling gods on earth can cause. I have no problems with either tbh, and nobody else should either beyond just simple preference.

Ultron and Quicksilver kind of sucked ass btw. I have no idea how anybody can see the latter as being better than the Xmen version. He has more screentime but none of the development that y'all promised would come with it. All we have different here is a basura accent, CW-Flash CGI powers and
a death scene
. Wanda was fine as hell tho. But yeah these twins were really nothing more than a plot device with a bad accent.

Thor...same ol same ol. Vision was beautiful. Like a robot superman. Hawkeye had the best lines in the movie, really warmed up to him. Black Widow and Banner scenes was not as good as the Ang Lee stuff but still I appreciate that they brought that side of Hulk back to the universe. It also made their scenes more interesting due to that dynamic. We need those jekyll and hyde comparisons to the character again.

Anyways MCU rankings:

Cap 2 > Iron Man > GOTG > Avengers AOU >= Iron Man 3

While I think Whedon flopped hard with the first, I think the team dynamic in here really worked. I hope WB goes a completely different route from the MCU, I really want more menacing villains and thematic plots (hopefully) but I think their writers should take notes from this as to how they should get the team to interact. He made this film feel like they've been at it for years which was nice.

Lots of time spent building up stuff that isn't going to pay off until the third movie, but damn good all the same. Wasn't expecting Ultron to be such a Whedon character.

quick thoughts on it:

Avengers 1 was way better, took away the spectacle of the big names joining up thing

Winter Soldier was... SO MUCH BETTER.

there were good action scenes in this one and it felt like they dialed it back a bit which I enjoyed. There were parts that kind of let the movie breathe a little bit but a few of the things were just dumb and i wanted them to just get it over with and go to the next scene.

the romance stuff was blah

there were a few other things that didnt make much sense otherwise. the visions everyone was having didn't really pay off in a good way, but i guess they might be waiting for the next movies to do more with them.

Ultron was a pretty good character. i liked the little action scenes he had with each main hero.

quicksilver was boring as fuck. X-Men had a lot more fun with that character, but at least he was "useful" in this one.

Hawkeye still sucks. He literally only is there to deal with the trash.

Scarlet Witch was purty

It's interesting to look how scores changed over time. Critics in general are scrutinizing more and more. Look at the discrepancy between the AoU RT% and user%. The only other movie with that kind of gap among well received entries is Batman Begins.

The movie just came out, there's a ton of hype, that sort of discrepancy is normal I think? I mean, do we expect that user score to stay the same as more and more ratings are applied over time? What were the historical user % scores for these films during the opening weekends? That would make for a better comparison with AoU.

Saw it late last night, my quick impression: absolutely fantastic. The first movie was more of a triumph because of how unexpectedly great it was, but Age of Ultron is vastly superior. It might be my favorite MCU movie so far, just slightly edging out Guardians. A better villain would have cemented GotG as #1 for me without a doubt. My current ranking would go:

1. Age of Ultron
2. Guardians of the Galaxy
3. Winter Soldier
4. Avengers
5. Iron Man 3
6. Thor
7. Iron Man 2
8. Iron Man
9. Thor 2
10. Captain America

I don't know whether it is cape movie fatigue or Marvel has lost its edge, but the last four Marvel films I've seen haven't kept my interest. I wouldn't say they are bad, but I don't care for them.

Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Captain America 2
Avengers 2

I think it's just you, especially with Cap 2. Winter Soldier is the least Marvel-y movie of the recent bunch, lots of people like how the Russo brothers handled the atmosphere, and it's universally praised too!

I saw this last night. I enjoyed it, but I thought it was clumsily stitched together, so it was disappointing on that front. almost everything needed at least a bit more room, so imo some action needed to be cut. The way it moves from one action set piece to another is very frantic, but at least two of them are great.

Ultron started well, even felt a little menacing in his lunacy (Spader is fantastic, as always), but he lost his edge halfway through it, and then became a disposable army of nothing. There were still some cool moments with "him" towards the end, but it was just in service of other characters, which diminished his presence for the more tragic figure they wanted to paint him as.

But overall, I enjoyed it. Character moments were there, some earned, some not. A couple of them got a good amount of welcome development which is fair considering their absence from most other movies, and a few implications going forward, which I guess we have to wait and see if they pan out at all. I didn't mind the humor either, but it wasn't as slick.

Oh, and I loved Vision. He has the best (visual) moments in the movie for me. I want more of him.

Yeah, I felt this way too. On future watches (of which there will be many) I'm sure it will be more apparent. I wish Ultron wouldn't have gone 0 to Evil so quick, but I loved his character regardless.

I thought this was fun, but very glib. Fairly weightless, but definitely enjoyable.

I'd stick it dead center of all the Marvel Studios films so far, right behind Iron Man.

I think its you... three of those are top five mcu movies
