Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

this game is so god damned jaggy and fuzzy. no way to clean it up without playing at 30 fps.

What the hell would frame rate have to do with how jaggy and fuzzy the image is? Have you turned off chromatic aberration and the film effect? That goes a long way towards cleaning up the image. Don't know why Rocksteady thought that shit looked good, the second I disabled that shit the image looked exponentially better.

Probably

If they make it free they will have to do something for those that already bought the season pass. Not sure I see that happening

A good mea culpa would be a free season pass for everyone who bought the game, and a free copy of Mad Max or some other recent WB game for season pass owners.

A more likely scenario is WB staying perfectly silent and waiting for it all to blow over.

those 2 have almost no effect to my eyes. turning off the aa def takes away some of the haze but then the shader effects are hella speckly. i said 30 fps because it takes the max level of dsr to clean the shit up. the lower levels dont help much. i hate UE3. you can barely even discern textures and materials from more than 15 feet away.

Both console versions have poor IQ as well.
On PC I can at least disable the film grain and the CA, it definitely enhances the IQ.

It's been on sale digitally on PSN (not sure about XBL) so I highly doubt it will launch at $60. I think $40~ is a safe bet, and I don't think they'll discount the season pass either. Maybe $5 off.

If they really launch this for 40$, is a big fuck off to people who put trust in WB and didn't refund the game.

How bout people like me who not only bought the game but also got the season pass ahead of time? We're the ones really getting fucked. I'd like to refund my season pass purchase but it was from Green Man Gaming so fuck me I guess. I'd be ok with it if they just gave me Shadow of Morder or MKX, but that won't happen. I'd refund the game but it was part of an Nvidia GPU purchase, (and don't tell me that makes it free, the price of the game is subsidized by the GPU purchase, not negated by it), so fuck me twice. I'm willing to bet what will happen is those who have waited on the game's release will probably get the season pass for either free or discounted; but since I've already purchased it then fuck me thrice. This whole thing has been educational though as it's taught me a valuable lesson; don't ever ever EVER buy anything from WB at launch. I'll make smarter decisions next time.

GMG were giving refunds for the Season Pass. I had mine refunded.

My guess if they give something out:

Base game owners: free season pass

Season pass owners: free season pass 2 (assuming they're making more DLC) or a choice between a selection of WB published games.

I don't think a discount would change anyone's opinion.

I think that'd be a good solution. I'll be disappointed if they do nothing at all considering we've had to deal with a buggy incomplete game for 4 months.

There won't be a thing and we know it. Fine by me, the game stands on his own, it released in a catastrophic state but assuming they have not been screwing around since then it should be playable on a relatively wide range of machines come end of October.

I believe it's enough to wash away the dismal memories of the launch. Some will remain on the fence due to the initial mess and ignore a high quality game, their choice.

Same, dude, I have the Premium Edition and I was too stupid to ask for a refund, hoping WB would solve this quickly.

The game actually runs pretty decent for me after the patch, until the scene where
scarecrow escapes from the blimp
. Now, suddenly my framerate is A LOT worse in the city :(

Msi 970
i52500k
8gb ram
Ssd
Etc...

Still runs terribly. Fluctuates between 30-60 (when locked at 60). Even if I switch everything that affects performance off/lowest. Even if I overclock everything.

I can't see this ever running well for me.

Spoke with scan.co.uk who told me they couldn't do anything as the game was free even though they know every well the cost of the game is factored into the package and the bundled games are what got them many of their new sales.

Bler.

Even at the lowest settings (more CPU bound I imagine) and overclocking your 2500K ? I have no idea what could be the issue then. My 4770K is not overclocked and it's not a world above your Sandy, with a 980 I'm able to hold 60fps the majority of my playtime, it does drop when I'm crashing into cars at high speed with Batman's tank, with max "normal" settings and two Gameworks stuff (rain and lighting).

Don't think about running the volumetric smoke and papers with a single 970 and aiming for 60fps, that just won't be possible even when the PC version is deemed clean enough for the rerelease.

Have you tweaked your game ? If so, delete your config file as the latest patch does not play nice with it.

Aside from that I'm running out of ideas, it should not run at 60fps locked with max settings but you should be able to get a 50-60fps experience without Gameworks effects and textures on medium (high will require more VRAM than your 970 has).

Issue is that high textures only bump Batman textures so there is no reason for higher VRAM usage. Game is not optimised and it will probably stay that way unfortunately.

Myself I can't clearly see the difference between medium and high textures, how do you know it only makes a difference on Batman and not some part of the environment.

I "licked" some walls when second patch was released and only difference was textures on Bat suit were better. But other than that i haven't seen anything different. And if there are other changes it is hard to justify high VRAM usage if you don't see difference.

Got this free with 970 a while ago and it was a bit poo at the time, upgraded to win 10 the weekend and was messing about in steam and seen I only logged 2 hours... turned it on and I am getting 60fps (apart from one or two glitches) with a lot of stuff maxed out.

Really enjoying it if I have to be honest, the story is amazing and the batmobile doesn't seem as annoying as a lot of reviews have said.

Barbara Gordon in glass room bit was quite shocking and the Joker is implemented really well

It means those with 3gb cards can still get console-class textures, the high setting may or may not warrant its demands but it's optional anyway.

Yeah but if High textures don't change a thing or change a very little but VRAM usage is high that means that they are bumping sys requirements artificially and that is not ok.

It's possible the high texture setting caches as much textures into your VRAM for smoother gameplay. Can't prove that, just a thought.

The description on the setting says "unlocks top mips" which, if I understand it, relates to mip maps which are "downscaled versions (by powers of two) of a Texture", "used to reduce jitter on textured surfaces when they're viewed from a distance". So I guess it just loads in higher res textures from a greater distance?

That's how I understand it at least. However, it says "on high screen resolution". I don't know if they include 1080p.

Before the patch I couldn't hold 30 with dynamic debris and fog, after the patch I can. Played around with 60fps a little, but it still wasn't perfectly stable.

i7 875k @ 3.2Ghz
Sapphire R9 290 4Gb
8Gb RAM
SSD
Windows 10

I honestly thought this was going to be much, much worse. I can't hold 60 (playing at 1080p, borderless window, everything more or less maxed except for AA and the two inaccessible Gameworks features), but I do reliably get between 45 and 60 fps apart from a few hitches (which are not unique to this game and most likely caused by AMD drivers). I'm only a few hours in so I don't know if it's going to get worse, but it's playable enough for my taste :)

I wonder if NVIDIA is ever going to update the "optimization" profile for the game but I guess if they were it'd be this week.

I'm expecting a new driver release for BAK. Previous patch notes mentioned that there will be new drivers for the game down the line.

No... As has been stated multiple times, they don't owe anyone anything. Everyone was entitled to refunds if you bought from a reputable retailer.

If you're unhappy with the way the situation has been handled then just don't buy WB again. That's all there really is to it :/

So a new thing, noticed I was getting frame drops more frequently so I checked what was going on and my CPU usage when playing Arkham Knight is super high (frequently goes up to 90%). This doesn't even happen when playing AC: Unity which is supposed to be very CPU bound. Hope this is one of the things they'll address in the patch tomorrow.

please. Every company does something when they mess up Sony ubisoft microsoft and EA to name a few

Wait a minute why are you arguing against free stuff

I'm not arguing against free stuff and it would be great if they did anything. But they don't HAVE to. As far as they are concerned they have done everything they should have done in this situation.

Not that I entirely disagree with your sentiment, but no they really didn't do everything they should have done in this situation.

They shouldn't have released the game in the state it was released in, for one.

Yeah, they shouldn't have and it's shocking that they did. But they gave everyone who bought from a proper retailer the opportunity to return it for a full refund regardless of how much time they spent on it, they released a patch which fixed most things on mid-high end systems (low end systems are still fucked, probably) and they waited until it was running okay for most people before putting it back on sale. They also apologised multiple times.

If you're unhappy with the way they've handled the situation then just don't buy WB games anymore. Yeah, they'll have lost a lot of goodwill by doing nothing but considering how quickly people jumped on Mad Max when it was reported to be a good port I doubt they're concerned about that.

When the last 'big' patch hit they updated it that day. My 970 went from being recommended to turn everything on max except for fog effects, to turning everything down and all the nvidia stuff off.

I definitely don't plan on spending a dime of my money on anymore WB published games, and I sure as shit won't support Rocksteady from this point forward. They're both to blame in equal measure as far as I'm concerned. If someone wants to gift me a WB game (as was the case with Mad Max) I'll gladly play it, but I personally won't support them with what little spending money I currently have. I mean, this was a company that went out of its way mere hours before AK's launch to make sure Nvidia promo copies wouldn't get the Steam pre-order bonuses when they were all set to prior to that happening. Oh, and the whole "Chipmunk Gate" thing where Nvidia uploaded gameplay at 60fps that was just 30fps footage sped up. No one came out of this looking good.

I don't know, I just expected better from them then a few empty promises and a reminder to buy the Season Pass to get access to all the DLC. I'd like to support further Netherealm games, for instance, because they know how to promote customer loyalty. When Mortal Kombat X on PC released a patch that killed people's save games, those that were affected were given the unlock DLC as a freebie. It was just something small, but it was a nice gesture I thought. However, since their games are published by WB I just don't see me picking them up with my own funds.

This whole debacle was a disappointment from start to finish, and honestly, there wasn't anything they could really do to please everyone about everything. They still seemed to go out of their way to make things worse for themselves on how they did handle it though.

When the last 'big' patch hit they updated it that day. My 970 went from being recommended to turn everything on max except for fog effects, to turning everything down and all the nvidia stuff off.

The last big patch actually gave me worse performance. Even in the game's broken state, when running off an SSD I was able to get a locked 30fps at 2880x1620 with everything on/high except the nvidia exclusive effects without stutter on a single OC'd 970.

Now I can't even get a locked 30 at 2560x1440 with the same settings, and it stutters like mad even on the SSD. I've since uninstalled it, just not worth my time and aggravation right now when there's other stuff I need to play.

Well in my situation I bought a 980ti earlier than I had planned because a local retailer was running the "buy this video card get the game free promotion" and I was going to buy the game on ps4 anyways so I said fuck it and bought it then. Then like two weeks later they changed the promotion to a free mgsv which apparently runs with no issues but here am I sitting fucked over with a broken game.

Its true I won't be buying a WB title in the future though.
