Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

Holy fucking shit, I expected this game to run like a charm after playing Arkham Asylum/Knight and I wake up to 30 pages of horrendous bug and crash reports. What. The. Hell.

30fps lock out of the box for a major AAA title? What is wrong with these people? I hope everybody who has the chance will refund this on steam or hold out on exceeding 2h until a few days in. Let's hope this is just a bad dream and they accidentally pushed a six months old dev build to the steam servers...

Downloaded the game, downloaded the newest AMD drivers (using a 290), removed the FPS cap, and played for a few minutes. Performance was all over the place af max settings with no nvidia shit on, but mildly tolerable. I quit the game and tried to relaunch it a little while later and it wouldn't even start. Gave me an error list a mile long repeatedly. Fuck it. Uninstalled. I'll try again in a few weeks when they've patched this shit.

I don't expect perfection, but it's inexcusable to launch it in such a state. If the PC version wasn't ready, they should have pushed if back a week or two. I bet Steam's new refund procedures will get a workout from this one...

I HAVEN'T EVEN FINISHED BURNING THE JOKER!!!!!! I get to where the scene is about to start, then my computer goes up in flames like The Joker is supposed to. Please Warner Bros, Rocksteady, Nvidia, and AMD get your act together.

Disappointed here. After seeing how nicely optimized the game is for ps4 I expected a very polished PC experience. I guess I should have seen it coming since Arkham City had plenty of odd issues on the PC as well despite being a lower spec game. A mutant UE3 title with loads of bolted on features seems like a dangerous thing.

The worst is that I expected something decent because it was using the tried and true good ol' UE3.

I guess enough incompetence will ruin anything.

does the fact that I bought this from GMG (they had it for $36) prevent me from getting a Steam refund?

Absolutely. You bought the key from a 3rd party. While the keys activate on Steam, they are under no obligation to refund a purchase that you did not make with them directly.

Hmm... On a 970 here and other than a bit of stuttering, the frame rate seems fine even in the batmobile. I'm playing with v-sync off because I have a G-Sync monitor, though.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Dunno why they even included a benchmark with such a rough port. Usually it's the good PC ports that have them.

A better question would be what is the point of even having a benchmark when it's results mean absolutely nothing compared to how the game actually performs.

After unpacking the game Geforce experience won't start anymore. Keep getting error. Game has too much CA it looks bad. Not crisp and the IQ sucks. Looks like its just a straight console port to me. Arkham Origins looked way better.

Well the benchmark runs fine from most indications. Way better than the actual game.

The main game isn't capped if you follow the op you can change it to whatever you want.

I'm aware of that. But the guy I was quoting sounded like he just started the game for the first time, so I wasn't sure if he was aware that the benchmark can list above 30 even if the 30 lock is still enabled.

Wait every time my game crashes it says something about July release or form something along those lines

4K highest (which means normal and high) settings with all GameBreakers from the mighty NVIDIA ON

1 Titan X @ 1450MHz
1 Titan X @ 1304MHz for dedicated GameBreakers use since SLI is not supported
Min 39/Max 77/Avg 52

No 21:9 widescreen support either.
VRAM usage topped 6G during the test.
Good job NVIDIA.

This is such a clusterfuck. As soon as I launch the game the screen flickers over the intro movies and menus and barely detects my input, and alt-tabbing does nothing, so I have to do a hard reset every time and hold down the power button.

This is fucked.

Alright, I've played for a little over an hour now and can share my performance with the following rig:

Titan X
16 GB RAM
4770k @ 4.5
1440p

I've decided to just let the 30 FPS cap as is. I don't feel like doing a tweak, and I'm quite content playing at this locked framerate (although it would be nice to flex that G-Sync). Hopefully it's something that they remove in a patch.

Performance is absolutely fine though. Game stays locked at 29/30 FPS 99% of the time. There was some slight stuttering in the Batmobile as new areas were loaded, but that's to be expected I suppose, and it was nothing gamebreaking. Other than that it has been pretty stutter free for me. I understand that that is not the case for a lot of people, so perhaps it's the extra VRAM of the Titan X doing its job. In the benchmark I believed I averaged in the 70's or so and the minimum was 36.

Edit: I should add that that is with everything maxed out and all of the NVIDIA bells and whistles activated and V-Sync off.

Same experience here. Also Titan X user on Win 8.1 64, 16gb ram, ssd, and 4.5ghz 3570k. No stutter or crashes so far.

Edit: This is probably one of the smoothest games I've ever played at 30fps.

Sorry to hear that so many are having issues. Hopefully they can issue some hot fixes quickly to address the problem.

For anyone that has been able to play for an extended period - any luck getting surround sound to work on PC? I'm running a 5.1 system and changed in game audio options to "large speakers" but it's only outputting in 2.1 - ended up switching to headphones in the meantime.

Curious to see if anyone else has ecoeri need this.

Are you fucking kidding me?

Surround sound doesn't work? What's your setup? Are you doing audio over HDMI to your receiver?

Scrooged

Totally wronger about Nintendo's business decisions.
So either there's something very wrong with the game or they don't understand what a benchmark is for.

I bet it was a last minute 'fix' for the issues they were having. They updated the minimum requirements yesterday for AMD, which now has a 3GB VRAM minimum. AMD cards are performing worse because of driver issues, but to make matters worse the game itself is unoptimized like crazy.

Alright, so based on a steam forum post it is recommended to go to the .ini and:

1. Change max fps to 120, not 60
2. Turn off all motion blur settings including MobilePostProcessBlurAmount to 0.0 as motion blur is bugged
3. Possibly change Texture Resolution to 2, to make it look better.

Obviously YMMV and backup your .ini but I'm gonna try it now.
Did you get any of this to work? Turning MotionBlur=False causes my game to crash on start up.

Damn, I can't believe I have no issues on my 7950. The VRAM thing is probably a factor, since normal recommends 3GB of video ram.

Huh, that together with the game deleting and redownloading itself when verifying the cache... But nah, you better believe they'd have fixed such a major fuckup asap

SLI users should absolutely dedicate their second GPU for PhysX until they get SLI scaling to work. Makes a huge difference if you have smoke/fog enabled

So you found a way to enable fog and debris after it was disabled? I have the latest nvidia drivers and its still disabled for me.

Right. It's so weird that they'd do that but leave the benchmark uncapped. Like, what?

Oh my goodness. Truly the Arkham Knightmare.

Just to clarify, the 5GB+ RAM usage was for the game, my VRAM usage was close to if not maxing out the 3584MB partition of the GTX 970's memory. So yeah, it was using over 8.5GB.

I'm sure you're not the only that's not believing what you just wrote.

I guess some people just don't notice this stuff. It's like this guy that linked me to his twitch stream as proof that there wasn't stuttering in his game. What do I immediately see when that shit starts? Stuttering.

For anyone with a laptop, just gave a little try with my 780m, i7-4700MQ, 8GB RAM.
Seems pretty playable so far, mostly hovering around 30fps, but seen it drop to 22fps for a split second.
What's worrying is Geforce experience doesn't think I meet the minimum requirements, which doesn't seem true so far. Only have normal as an option for textures despite having 4gb vram, everything else was set to high, though I turned shadows down to medium to see if that helps with the fps drops. Not seeing the stuttering though. Hopefully a patch will help out with performance more and then after that, I'm looking forward to DX12 for more better performance :D

Sorry to be a pleb,

But does Nvidia have any Experience Optimizations available? I'll probably just roll with those by the sound of things.

Recap:

Gemüsepizza;169467314 said:
"Verify integrity of game cache" seems to be totally broken. I just started it for fun and it deleted the whole game. Maybe there is a problem with the preload data? Fortunately I have a very fast internet connection.

One nice thing - the game recongnized my DS4 and is showing ps4 buttons.

This has Denuvo? lol

Maybe the GOTY edition will be Steamworks only.

[NO HARLEY QUINN DLC FOR NVIDIA EDITION]WB made sure nvidia users don't get that. Are you one of them?

After the crash, I've checked my installation and it literally deleted all game files

I wish I was making this up

AMD users should be aware that for now, the game has performance issues with AMD cards. No statements from AMD yet.

[EDIT] - New drivers from AMD out:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx

Batman Nvidia Drivers were already released earlier. Also latest drivers solves greyed out/missing graphics options. Game still sucks. :(

Okay you guys, calm down and listen.

Do not defeat the 30 fps framerate lock. It's there for a reason it seems, however this game is designed, however the engine works, it gets really unhappy if you uncap the framerate. It's much much smoother running at 30 fps from what I've seen.

This game chews through VRAM like crazy. It's constantly capping my 980 Ti's 6 GB of VRAM at 5945 MB according to MSI Afterburner. It's literally using the entire framebuffer of my video card. This is probably what is causing some of you guys to stutter so much if you're running Normal textures and you don't have a lot of VRAM on your video card.

Benchmarking has nothing to do with the actual game. Game is capped to 30fps, but uncapped in benchmark.

Sorry for any formatting issues. Im on a cellphone until I get home :/

Dude. Spoilers...

To be fair, it's part of the intro and was in some trailers (including the E3 one a couple days ago).

Just to clarify, the 5GB+ RAM usage was for the game, my VRAM usage was close to if not maxing out the 3584MB partition of the GTX 970's memory. So yeah, it was using over 8.5GB.
That really doesn't sound right. There's just gotta be a day-one patch.

I'm crossing my fingers now. I think we'll need it.

They better. Like come on I literally can't get past the first part. The very first part but I know I probably can't get a refund. I got it through a third-party site for really cheap. Also is Harlee Quinn DLC only on consoles or is it also on PC?

Finally got it to run and yo this game runs like ass

Constant framerate drops into the 30s or worse even with my OC'd 4790k and Titan Black ;__;

Warner Bros. pls

i5 4690k (stock)
8 GB 1600 Memory
MSI GTX 970 (stock)

1920x1080
V-Sync: Off (on in Nvidia control panel)
Anti-Aliasing: On
Texture Resolution: Normal
Shadow Quality: High
Level of Detail: High
Gameworks settings: All off EXCEPT for Rain and Light Shafts

The framerate seems to stay above 50 fps most of the time. The only time it dips is when I glide or use the batmobile, but it never seems to go below 45.

Here's the weird thing: I seem to get a better framerate with rain ON in gameworks than when it's off... :/

*spends $1000 on gaming PC, gets shit experience*

I shoulda spent half of that on a console. PC gaming is fucking painful right now.

I tried to verify cache while connected via the VPN because the game kept crashing instead of starting.

It deleted the game. I feel your pain.
It's done this to me 3 times now my game was crashing with file errors so verified cache and its deleted the game. This port is a mess man

Do GMG do refunds?

The official answer is no and they usually stick by that. GMG typically has very good customer support, but I think they typically draw the line at refunding a game that's already released. Just not a whole lot for them to do with a used key besides eating the cost of that entire sale. I imagine the way they see it is you purchased a key at a very reasonable price and so long as they get a working key to you that successfully activates, the transaction is essentially over.

Fraps shows the game running 30fps but it just doesn't feel like a smooth 30, on top of that I'm experiencing is a ton of hitches / stuttering even during cutscenes which really breaks the immersion, this is with all of the Gameworks options disabled.
