Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut |OT| - Men are still good (out now)

The UC is an objectively better movie but not an objectively good movie. If that makes sense.
If you ask me it makes it at least objectively good. Or decent to good. I mean, it now plays by its own rules, one could like or dislike those rules, but it's not broken as a piece of cinema anymore.
is batmans first appearance different in the UC?
It has a different build up. It's pretty cool.

Damn, sorry so many of you didn't like the film.

Watching it again later! Good movie. Not great, but not bad either. Will probably get more repeat viewings from me than any superhero movie since Batman Begins, TDK and Ironman. I've been 1-and-done with every superhero movie since. I'll probably end up watching this several times more than any of the Avengers-related movies, though I'd probably watch Deadpool again because it was awesome. meh @ the rest. Fun once but never anything I ever wanted to see again.

I have no idea just wtf is going on in this thread... Batman quotes, people shitting on Nolan, discussion of movie's themes when there is so much other stuff we could be discussing. It's bizarre.

I somewhat liked the Theatrical cut even though i knew after watching it why people hated it. I liked this version as well, but while it fixed some of the jarring editing issues, the Martha scene is still silly. the lack of superman action outside of two scenes is still unforgivable. the title fight is still very short and boring compared to some of the marvel stuff. the characterization of Lex is still silly. He's still a decent villain though. Much better than anything Marvel has put out in like 10 movies.

The visuals are still godly. it looks like a david fincher movie sometimes. I do appreciate some extra scenes of Louis and Clark investigating, but it would've more interesting if they were doing the investigation together. The movie is still very drab and lifeless. A little banter goes a long way.

It still feels like a slog and is just not that much fun to watch.

Eisenberg's interpretation was an interesting take on Lex Luthor, that i'm not sure really worked. What stood out in particularly was when Lex was speaking to both Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, and I couldn't help but notice a sniveling, lame, twerp of a skinny, wimpy, kid addressing two bigger, buffer, cooler, smoother, handsomer grown ass men. LOL

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
Remember when Wonder Woman blocks Doomsday's blast with her shield and there is a huge building-leveling explosion, yet everyone is fine? What was the deal with that?

More buildup intensifies the horror aspect of it. Just a great reveal with him scurrying across the ceiling like a monster. It *looks* great. Those are the sort of touches BvS has that make me like it---those higher highs Disco mentioned earlier.

The movie was all good until Doomsday showed up.

Everything about it him was just so fake the CGI, the design, and the Dragon Ball Elements which were done really poorly with CGI. The CGI just fell apart. Music was off putting too.

More I think about it, more I realize how much of my dissatisfaction comes from the third act. Much like Winter Soldier, I really like most of it up til there and I'm left wishing it followed through. Part of it is condensing all action to one night.

One might even say he lived in the shadow of his father, which is my take on it. My hope is that he now becomes the sort of Lex we expect--assured, ruthless, charismatic and also bald. He's got the last one by the end of the movie at least!!

From an appearance standpoint he just looks miscast.

I liked very much the Doomsday fight. I liked how Wonder Woman and Superman came in, TDKR's shot, the ending of the fight, some Wonder Woman and Superman co-op. It was very good.

Yeah, Supes swooping in from behind then him and Wondy doing the low-high combo was awesome.

Question: If I never watched the original cut of the film in the cinema, as a first time viewer...is the Ultimate Cut the way to go? Is it a general improvement over the first version?

A theory from way back I liked resonated with Lex's relationship with his father. To where Lex's baldness, the hiding of it, stemmed from his fear of becoming like his father. When he loses the wig, shaves off the rest of hair, whatever, it's him embracing it.

I don't dislike the fight itself so much as I believe it's not the best way to close out the film. Would've preferred character moments between Superman and Batman as partners. That's just me.

Absolutely yes. The TC should not exist in your mind. This should not even be called the UC, but just "the real cut". It's doesn't even have added things, it's just the complete story.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

Simply put, there isn't a single way in which the theatrical cut is better.

Different tastes, I guess. I liked the closing of the film. I wouldn't mind seeing Batman and Superman as partners, but we will get it in Justice League or Justice League 2, probably, since their differences are essential.

Yes and yes. Do yourself a favor and watch the ultimate cut. This cut is very good and it proves Snyder and Terrio did a good job (I thought they didn't, based on theatrical cut).

edit: Maybe I will make some gifs later. Any moment you want to see?

Very much so, yes. The UC is still not a great movie and it has plenty of issues, but it is demonstrably better than the original cut. The UC is what should have been released to theaters IMHO.

No such thing as an objectively good/bad movie.

Eh, I honestly think in the case of BvS, the UC is as close as you can get to objectively better than a film's original release. I don't see how anyone could pick the TC as being a better film. Kingdom of Heaven comes to mind as a great example too of a DC film that is objectively better than it's original.

NOTE that I am NOT saying that BvS:UC is on the same level as KoH:DC!!!!! But yeah I'm saying that with both films the DC/UC versions are objectively better than the TC's.

UC is definitely the better version of a flawed film. I think they just did way too much with this movie.

Should of saved the Batman V Superman fight and Doomsday till after all the Justice League stuff. Take some time to build some history between the characters, making the fight more powerful down the line.

Lex Luthor should of been the only antagonist in this movie. Have his motivations be personal but also political after the destruction of Metropolis. Having the people on his side after helping to rebuild the city with his Luthor-bots or something.

Loved the helipad scene, that was a great villain moment for Lex. Hopefully we'll get something similar for JL.

I agree. Was this mess the writer/directors idea or were they tasked with shoehorning this together the best they could by the studio?

Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
So I finally watched the movie
This extended version

Ordered it on FiOS

Didn't watch the theater version

The movie was dark toned a little too much for my taste
I now understand the Martha gag, I read the jokes and description of why, but expericing it was like oh that's why

Also Lois throwing the spear away, then realizing oh yeah they might need just t now, just confused the fuck out of me

Also what the fuck was the creature that vanished at the end when they grabbed him from that genetics pool
Don't tell me that's who I think it is...

Movie fell flat at places and some of that nightmare/dream shit Bruce and Clark had were just like the fuck?

I give it a 6/10, its not a movie that has that repeatable viewing going for it

That scene was awful. He rambles, gestures with the watch, throws his hands up over his head like a cartoon character. Ugh. It's close to Batman Forever Two-Face bad. Just over the top and not good.

That was Thanos. Haven't you seen Avengers? :)

I think it's supposed to be Steppenwolf...

That doesn't exist. The quality of a piece of art is never objective.

His mannerisms didn't bother me. It actually worked for what we were shown up until that point for his character. There was some great dialogue in there too. And the way he was in total control in that situation, while Superman has all the power in the world but powerless in the moment. Those Martha pictures were really fucked up, glad they did not hold back on those. Him walking away and his theme playing was great. Not to mention the cinematography, Fong/Snyder knocked it out of the park.

Thanks for each and every response everyone! I'll be sure to follow all of your advice and make sure I pick up the Ultimate Cut when I finally sit down to watch this.

Like I said, I haven't seen either version of the film yet so I wouldn't know, haha.

I hated it.

The minute they showed images of Ma Kent with
a gag in her mouth
I knew Snyder had lost it. There are more subtle ways for Lex Luthor to exude power. I don't like his theme either.

I'd rate the Golly Rancher and 'I should turn that picture upside down' scenes more highly, as far as Lex scenes go. They were more restrained, but also had him exhert a non-physical power. And they didn't have any cartoon mannerisms, or gibbertalk.

How about the quality of a piece of shit?

Google "2 girls one cup" :p

Seriously though, even if a movie is objectively bad, that doesn't mean someone can't like it, unless a movie is objectively bad when nobody likes it, but even then, maybe someone in the future will like it.

I did not like those scenes, especially the golly rancher scene.

WHY CAN'T WE AGREE!

The photo thing seemed like something out of a horror movie and showed how truly insane he really is (well, besides bombing the hearing). For all the shit he gets, imo he was a far better villain than we have seen in years in all these comicbook movies. Looking forward to how he will change in the upcoming movies (MoS2?), betting they'll take the businessman route this time instead of the mad scientist.

I loved that part. The arrogance, supermans murderous intent it was great. Smug bastard.

Somehow, this cut makes the movie even more laughably.

I also noticed some very amateurish sfx, Specially at this scene:
5ZjDRsc.gif

A simple scene and they cant even get the shaky camera tracking and the green screen right. Also this whole scene with pa Kent its just stupid.

I'm looking foward to rewatch this while drunk with my friends tho.

The scene is fine. It crystallizes for superman that despite his best efforts to save people there will always be things he can't control and unintended consequences for his actions. And to cope with the "screams in the night" he can turn to the woman he loves as an emotional anchor.

And that's just the shaky cam conveying that.
