Jesus fuck.
The preeminent gaming forum and we still have folks who don't understand 60fps is a design choice and has nothing to do with hardware. Tedious beyond words.
Education is a burden, friend.

Are the ps4 and xb1 not based off of x86 architecture? I mean why build your system in such a way that your games wouldn't just use whatever resources were available. As stated the one s gets a tiny boost. I suppose it doesn't really matter it just confounds me. Still buying day one and still excited, just also confused as to why Sony does really strange things.
Better graphics, framerate and IQ isnt justified?
Obviously they COULD get the games to run at 60 but they would need to reduce the visuals so much they would probably look worse than the OG PS4 version..I doubt Sony is going to allow that somehow.
The weak CPU is definitely a factor in this.

and PSVR.
whats it to you if people want a PS4pro for a 1080p tv?
I don't see it being that much different but we will see as there are XB1 games without dynamic rendering so we don't know how MS with handle those atm.I don't want a Pro anymore, since I won't be getting 4K benefits. I'll be getting a cheaper Slim if I'm going to be forced into 30fps for the handful of exclusives that I'm interested in.
I can't comprehend how poorly Sony has handled this, given their success for the first part of this generation. Microsoft's response with Scorpio's features will be interesting to say the least.
Who could? You're telling me devs should reengineer their 30fps games "just cos"? If the devs wanted 60fps, they woulda done that to begin with.
Pro is not PC. Having extra grunt doesn't magically change design decisions.
it's not just the architecture or hardware. Xbox One's operating system is basically a version of windows 10 and a hypervisor that runs virtual machines. The games load into a VM, that again communicates through (mostly DirectX) with the windows OS. I'm not familiar with all the inner workings, but this setup allows Microsoft more scalability than Sony's setup (probably at a performance cost).

That's speculation on your part, they have to optimize for it that's all. People fear a PS4 running @ 60fps will look like a PS2/PS3 game and that's not true.
" Leadbetter says what PS4 Pro does for 1080p is a good question and that you essentially get more "1080p goodness" and supersampling. Tomb Raider and Knack showed big improvements with supersampling. Mostly though, it's about 4k, according to Leadbetter."
Hmmmmm, as a 1080p owner this made me less confident about pulling the trigger.
Not all games are hardwired to run at 30, especially when they have PC versions that run at 60.
So yeah, the extra HW could've been a way to get some 30fps games to run at 60.
Small question: Are the HDMI cables you get in the box 2.0?
Yes.

All I want is stable FFXV at 30 fps with few jaggies. Is that so much to ask for?
yeah, i don't like that either. honestly, i'm just expecting resolution boosts and frame rate boosts. take a game like battlefield 4. it renders at 900p and attempts to run at 60fps. In my mind a title like that should be 1080p and a more stable 60fps on a pro. if there is extra horsepower leftover to increase lod, texture resolution, lighting/shadows and things like that then that's great.
i don't expect titles that are targeting 30fps to be bumped to 60fps on the pro. i'm sure it's possible in some cases, but i think in general that could be a headache for devs. games with unlocked frame rates, targeting 60fps, are where we'll see improved fps on the pro i'm guessing.

It isn't just a design choice.
I believe you're probably right here. If a game runs at a 30fps max but drops a lot, I expect less drops on PS Pro. Same with 60fps games. However I don't see any games going from 30 > 60 on the Pro compared to the normal PS4.

I believe that rise of the tomb raider has a 1080p/60fps option.

Where are you seeing it will do that on a 1080P TV? Not the write up in the OP for sure.
You just skip everything else I said and you only focus on that one? You need to stop cherry pickingYou literally just described devs making a decision on how to use their hardware.
Would it blow your mind if I told you there were multiple ways to do that?
Well it's not a design choice at all in regards to old PS4 games on Pro. The games were already made to a spec, and the CPU won't have enough grunt to get most of the 30fps games up to 60.

How many times does Rich manage to shoehorn some Scorpio mentions? Or does he just stick to the XBO S sales pitch?

"Ship has sailed" on people expecting better framerates at every game in 1080p. Seems they're going more in the direction of 30fps with better visuals.
What we should hope for are fewer games designed to be 30fps max.
Devs only lock to 30 when they think that's what gamers want.
Man Sony really lucked out with Cerny. The dudes on it
And that is why it's due to hardware and not only design choice. The CPU is not powerful enough in many cases.
I believe that rise of the tomb raider has a 1080p/60fps option.
I don't think people quoting that 4k quote with leadbetter realize just how insanely clear a downsampled image from 4k is to 1080p.
I have no issue with games being 30fps as long as the genre suits them. I could never play Rocket League at less than a locked 60fps, but The Witcher 3? More eyecandy please. I have a PC for those times that I would rather play a game with a higher framerate.
