The PS6 is rumored to launch in late 2027, following the 7 year lifecycle tradition of PlayStation consoles ever since the PS2 (as March 2000 to November 2006 is way closer to 7 years than 6 years), which would actually match the 30th anniversary of the Gran Turismo franchise in December of that same year.
Gran Turismo 7 only took 4 years and 3 months to release after Gran Turismo SPORT, so a similar time frame between it and Gran Turismo 8 would be from mid 2026 onwards, which is a very likely release target for it, unless SIE is planning to give it more time until the PS6 launch if late 2027 is on the cards, for the purpose of having the newest entry of the biggest PlayStation series available at launch and, at the same time, as a celebration for its 30th anniversary.
What do you think? I actually think any of both cases is very likely to happen. It would take less time in the oven than Gran Turismo 5 in any instance!
BTW:
Just to be clear, the game being cross-gen or not isn't part of the conversation. You can still vote for it being a PS6 launch title even if you think that it will release on PS5 as well.

It's going to be a crossgen release. If Sony is smart, they'll launch both at the same time.

PS6 game for sure. with a port for PS5 much like GT7 is now.

But I am not expecting a rescan of the car models. it will be just upgraded texture on current models with better world environments and hopefully the sound of the tires.

GT7 is my fav PS5 game I have played. my Fav sim racing game I have played, including the PC with a 5090 card. The game is just superb. The car details from inside are just amazing.

The only racing I actually bothered to finish the career mode.

Oh yeah definitely voted PS6 launch.

If I were a betting man, I would say there's a special 30th anniversary PS5 next year. Maybe an anniversary edition of the GT7.

I expect GT8 to be drastically different in how much it leans into online/live elements.

I'd vote on cross-gen when or a bit after the PS6 launches. Car-sims are a good graphic benchmark.

I would also speculate the next Playstation will have some custom NPU or AI accelerator that would allow for something like Nvidia's neural rendering, using AI to approximate textures/materials (& other effects) at a fraction of the memory cost, allowing them to push detail on everything higher to showcase why the next box is worth getting.

I'm guessing 2028. Or later.

I think it will be a "Playstation" title and therefore it will, like all first-party titles (and basically all third-party titles) well into the 2030s, launch on all 3 active Playstation platforms; the PS5, the PS6 and the PS Portable.

The combination of technology and economics will make the concept of [software] generations a thing of the past.

I don't think Sony has any reason to launch the PS6 in 2027. They flat out said in the ABK trial they didn't expect to launch before the end of 2028. I think with Xbox on life support, they have even less reason to feel rushed. I think pushing it out an extra year is more likely.

I would expect the next GT to be crossgen PS5/PS6.

I expect it to launch on ps5, next year.

The past 3 gt games have each taken 4 to 4 and a half years, gt8 shouldn't be any different.

Gt7 updates have slowed down as well.

Gt8 should use the same car and track scans which should reduce development time. Also the big change would probably be that sophy AI will replace the normal ai in entirety, even in the campaign. Which would honestly be a welcome change as it would allow the game to have proper racing rather than the chase the leader we currently have in gt7.

Besides that, we will probably get newer race cars, better physics and more tracks. It will be akin to gt3 to gt4 and gt5 to gt7( gt4 was basically gt3 with more content, same with gt6 wrt to gt5).

Also we might see a return of b spec mode.

My guess is that Sony will let them work on it for a ps6 launch title. If the rumours of a November 2027 launch date are true, then Sony need a stable of high quality games for launch and a GT game for launch would make perfect sense.

PS 6 isn't launching till 2028 or 2029

All based on literally nothing (and no, Sony never stated what you're saying), while there are far more things pointing out to a 2027 launch. 2029 is absolutely ridiculous.

Also, do you seriously think that Gran Turismo 8 will take 7 years in development?

I would be pissed if I owned GT7 and they dropped another the same gen. There's no reason. We're in a place where simcade tentpole racers should last no less than one full gen. If not 2. Just because the consumer investment (time and money) and the lack of upside in a new one. The cars will all be the same and so will the tracks. It will exhaust the devs and the market. Simcade gamers are happy to buy shitloads of DLC. Keep it coming. If GT7 comes to Steam I'm buying the highest edition without question, as I do with Forza titles. Bring out some big car packs and tracks.

It's going to be a cross gen game as usual. PS5 and PS6 but idk that it'll be a launch game, might come later than that.

I would predict that it will release next year. GT7 stopped getting big updates some time ago, I mean there's still there, like the Sophy updates or new cars, but you can clearly tell that the main part of the studio is busy developing the next installment.

I don't think Sony is going to wait for PS6. They can always make a next-gen patch when the new hardware launches, just like they did with the PSVR2 support. Plus an IP like Gran Turismo relies heavily on a massive userbase and you can't have that with a brand new console.

Cross gen. Late PS5 release, 2027. Just in time for them to release the PS6 Enhanced Edition for 89.99 or a 10 dollar upgrade for those who own the PS5 version.

Not to mention we have historical precident. Gt6 released on ps3 after ps4 had already launched. Gt7 was crossgen even 2 years into ps5.

Gt8 will definitely be playable on ps5, the only question is about when it will launch.

Considering how gt6, gt sport and gt7 all took 4 to 4&1/2 years, gt8 releasing next year is a safe bet, imo. (Also the last track that was released was in July last year).

GT7 should not have been a PS4 title, GT8 should not be made with any limits of PS5 in mind. Every GT going forward should be released close to launch of a new gen and then constantly update it througout the gen.

Gran Turismo Sport was also an online game and PD kept its servers going until the end of January 2024. That's almost 2 years since the release of GT7.
and lot of people bought cars on 7, and do they want to rebuy on 8? it should be clearly planned. because if they release 8 too soon, it will reduce the trust of the players who spent real money on cars.
not against 8 sooner, at least let 7 can be played offline could help reduce the strain

Exactly. Since there's years of support for these games, sequels won't come as often.

With the poll, I'd predict 100% GT8 is at least a 2030 game with the PS6 coming Xmas 2028 or 2029. 2027 is probably too soon after the Pro & Mark Cerny's recent statements about the next-gen.

While I can't give you exact details, but I can confirm that Gran Tursimo 8 will definitely release on a PlayStation console

That's weird. The more games the better.
not really. Just like sports games, yearly releases only make sense for that because of the roster updates, but in essence very little changes from one to another, most would argue that almost nothing changes between several years of releases.
It's nice for their profits, but has almost no value for customers.

Racing games just like all other sport games should imho release once per gen and just get updates until end of gen with selectable years for the right jerseys, new stadiums, track layouts, car paints - current and various historic would be fun.

But wasn' GT7 made with PS4 crossgen in mind? Wouldn't it be nice to have something that's made with PS5/PS6 in mind too?
