Hyped now. Murray Gold called the episode 'controversial'. I think there's going to be some upset fanboys come November 24th...

Every season finale or season opening or special or xmas episode has been called controversial or alike by the exes one time or another. And it all plays out like "ok, that was cool" and not much else.

Very, very rarely in Doctor Who does a story matter to him very much at all.

Errm most of Roses arc. Marathas story. The loss of Donna. The Ponds arc. Shacking up with their daughter for a time? And that's just from '05

I like Who but this statement is just bobbins

Probably for adding another Doctor to the past lineup.

I fail to see how it's controversial. We don't know what happened in the Time War, and it's stated that John Hurt's Doctor didn't operate as "The Doctor" and was shunned from the numbering. Yes, there is an extra incarnation of the Time Lord known as "The Doctor" but he is not "The Doctor."

I think it's also possible he's going to cement some shit as solidly "in-canon" that fans might not be all that willing to have cemented. If he's really trying to build a platform from which another 50 years can jump from, then it's possible that not only will we find out what's up with the Time War, we're going to find out some other crazy thing that will shift, ever-so-slightly, our perception of what the Doctor can be.

Paul McGann must be getting tired now of having to deny rumours that he making a 50th anniversary appearance, but it doesn’t help when a lot of these rumours stem from his own Twitter account.

Yesterday evening, fans got excited again with a certain tweet from the man himself: “Spent forty minutes this pm having to imitate Matt Smith’s dramatic delivery in VO. You have been warned….”

However, he quickly followed up with an explanation: “I should explain. It was by way of an aural experiment to find out how similar we might sound. We didn’t. And he’s better looking too.”

Earlier, McGann once again denied involvement when asked directly: “No, I’m not in the 50th, though plenty of beautiful and talented people are.”

Only 50 days to go until we know for sure…

Keep in mind the specially filmed trailer is in post-production right now. I so want it to be Mcgann's regeneration, I'm ready for disappointment though.

8 is my favorite Doctor, and I would be heartbroken if he didn't have something to do with the 50th Anniversary. Really hope Mcgann is alluding to something real here.

Is he your favourite because of the TV movie and/or radio plays, or just one or the other?

I didn't think much of the movie, but I did like Mcgann's look/tardis. On recommendation, I listened to a few audios plays and after listening to The Chimes of Midnight I became a believer in Mcgann's Doctor. After the Neverland and Zagreus arcs he became my favorite.

Tangentially related to Doctor Who but I got to meet John Barrowman today at Dallas Fan Days. He's pretty damn awesome. He has a sense of humor. He allowed photographs outside of photo ops. He's also just as handsome in person and managed to make another guy blush.

BBC America may have inadvertently revealed the time of broadcast for the 50th Anniversary Special, The Day of the Doctor, when they updated their advance schedules for November online. The details (now removed) indicated that after a week-long celebration of the series, it would premiere on 23rd November at 2:45pm Eastern time, meaning a UK broadcast of the 75-minute special at 7:45pm!

The BBC are unlikely to confirm such a definite time until much nearer broadcast; however, this is the first indication that Doctor Who might well occupy a prime-time slot on Saturday evening (possibly following the popular Strictly Come Dancing).

Other programming planned by BBC America includes the US premiere of An Adventure in Space and Time for Friday 22nd November at 9:00pm (this, however, is not expected to be simulcast with BBC2 in the UK!). This will be preceded by Explaining Doctor Who, a documentary which UK channel Watch have scheduled for 12th October as part of their Doctor Who Revisited launch day. Other 'talking-head' documentaries are spread over the course of the week amongst the episode repeats, with two of note being a new Tales from the TARDIS at 9:00pm on 18th November, and a special 15-minute Day of the Doctor Pre-Show broadcast before the prime-time repeat of The Day of the Doctor at 7:15pm EST on the 23rd.

All schedules are subject to change.

So it'll run up to the watershed. Makes sense. Would have been neat to see it go later than 9 for once, but I can see why they wouldn't do that.

Every single time I see this thread get bumped, I think to myself "Finally! This time it has to be a fucking trailer!"

:(

For me, it's less "Maybe it's the trailer" and more "What piece of news that someone's already decided to post in the 7th Series thread instead of this one is finally getting posted here" :)

This one is kinda randomly/arbitrarily updated in comparison to that one, which actually has most of the pertinent 50th anniversary information.

When the trailer gets posted, it'll probably be in NEITHER thread, but will have its own thread entirely, which will render both this one AND the 7th series thread obsolete/dead.

Anything I see related to the 50th, I post in here (such as broadcast time, which hasn't been posted in the other thread).

Not much I can do if others post 50th stuff in the Season 7 thread.

I just wanted an excuse to use this GIF more. Also, either the 50th or Series 8 needs Captain Jack.

Actually sort of like Tennant more with his hair a bit more down (presumably done to hide the bit more he's aged), especially in that first SFX shot. Hyped!

Of course Hurt has a screwdriver...! That's another toy. ;) I hope it's a bridge design between the classic and 9th screwdrivers, though it looks a bit more like 11's on the hilt there! I'll buy them all. I'm such a whore.

 yeah, it's got the engraved curve! I never noticed that at first. But with the same sort of colouring on the final end as 11's has. Lovely.

Regarding the above images, there is something else interesting - it gives a better look at Hurt's jacket, and to my eyes now it DOESN'T look like the 9th Doctor's, which was what was previously assumed from different pics from different angles. I think it looks like it has a fairly significantly different cut. It definitely evokes it, though, of course.

EDIT: Also, there's this - take it with a pinch of salt, but -- there's a magazine interview with Tennant and Catherine Tate that
mentions as if she's also in the 50th - says she'll appear "alongside the most recent Doctor" and talks about "concerns about returning to the show" - not just for Tennant, but for both of them. Link:

Obviously rumour territory and probably a mistake, but spoilered anyway.

Huh! They must have done some very very close-up filming of the half-there remaining bit of the 10th TARDIS set at the experience, then... I hadn't expected to see his TARDIS inside! That makes me really happy, even if it'll be shot really tightly or CGed to aid it. That also explains why they closed the experience for a day now...

To the above - in fairness, chains like that are standard for that sort of period dress. For instance...

Still do think it's 8's, mind.

Yeah, that's 8's gear underneath. I do like how he's rocking some sort of bandolier/weapons belt for his screwdriver.

Goddammit if McGann doesn't show up somehow...

That magazine cover should be a poster, really. It's kinda crazy seeing those three together like that.

edit: I also like the implication that when the Doctor needs to go HAM, he regenerates into the grumpiest old man that ever existed.

Supposedly this spread in SFX features a very clear explanation from Moffat as to his reasoning of why no classic Doctors, which doesn't seem misdirection. Reckon McGann may be a no go, unfortunately. One day, though! Keeping the faith for him & Eccleston eventually.

I'm giving myself the wiggle room that he doesn't count McGann as a "classic" Doctor ;)

I wonder if the John Hurt character only exists because Eccelston is being a dick.

I could see the 9th Doctor say, "what I did, I did without choice. In the name of peace and sanity."

Hurt could've been a plan B, but I don't think that's the case. I could be giving Moffat too much credit, but this revelation of him being a disavowed Doctor doesn't seem like an easy thing to consider. He must have planned it in advanced, and was hoping to get the 3 Doctors back.

And isn't he appearing in some episodes in series 8?

I don't buy magazines anymore, but I'll make the exception and pick up that copy of SFX whenever we get it here.

I just read somewhere that the Adventure in Space and Time movie is airing on the 23rd too? Is that confirmed?

Just a heads up. As much as I appreciate seeing those scans...(they're against the GAF TOS)

"C. Copyrighted Material

Don't want anyone to get banned over em.

I could be wrong but I think the rule on scans is related to gaming mags, since it's the gaming industry and not the BBC or SFX or whoever that frequent these boards.
