I don't remember hearing anything about RTD specifically. He clashed a lot with Keith Boak, and his comments from a few months ago about the way the show was run sounded more like they were talking about Phil Collinson rather than RTD (although it could have been both). Essentially, Eccleston didn't really like the way the show was run and how many of the lower ranking staff members were treated by upper management.

So eventually everyone in the universe is going to realize he isn't dead right? This is the Doctor we're talking about... Eventually the Silence are going to come after him again. Also, is anyone else annoyed with the whole "prediction of the Doctor's death" thing again? They just did this with Tennant and now we're gonna have a whole other season leading up to Smith regenerating in some field.
Doctor Who doesn't actually make the slightest bit of sense, and it's not really supposed to.

He has a time machine. He'll exist throughout time and space regardless of when you kill him.

He won't have any personal future though.

MAN, 7th's costume is shit. If they bring him back for a special, they have to give him some new threads. Or at least have 11th give him loads of shit about it.

I don't aesthetically like the costume, but in some ways it works. The seventh Doctor is happy to look foolish, to play the role of the wandering idiot. The costume works for the persona, makes his enemies underestimate his ruthless cunning. Dictators didn't consider this imbecilic looking figure a threat, and probably regretted that immensely when he brought their downfall/indirectly killed their pets.

However, his TV Movie appearance is pretty great:

He should wear that more.

Finally caught up. What an odd ending. I can't say that I liked it a lot, but I need to get some space between it. Honestly, the endings are bittersweet for me (and I imagine a lot of fans) because now we won't have new Dr. Who for what...a year or so?

Well there's the Christmas special in December too.

What?! What's Ecceleston's reason for not wanting to be the 9th Doctor?

The story is he is a complete dick or that RTD ran the show in a way that pissed him off

Eccleston, to be fair, has been quite open. The show took off during filming, and it was then that he decided not to stay on. It's unfair to say it was the way RTD ran the show, as he only joined Who because of RTD - when he found out that's what he was doing, he called him up and said "can I audition" despite not being a Who fan.

The two worked together on the excellent "The Second Coming", where Eccleston played someone who was The Second Coming, a modern-day son of god, and the short series 'examined' how the world reacted.

Anyway, Eccleston is one of these really hardcore character actor types. He's openly said Who was too much about running around, too much about being on kids lunchboxes, too easy to get typecast and too hectic for him to really enjoy. He's the type of Actor who sits and meditates on his lines and his character, which is great but not necessarily the best thing for something like Who. Supposedly he hated doing Heroes too.

There was lots of roughness with series 1, too - episodes being dropped last minute, scripts getting rejuggled, and just the realities of making a show like Who. For instance he supposedly raged when time & money ran out for a night shoot and RTD rewrote lines over the phone to Julie Gardner (Producer) and the Director to make things fit without scheduling another expensive night shoot - he just didn't see why they couldn't drop some CGI money and reschedule or something.

He's expressed a desire to work with RTD and Moffat again, and has worked with the BBC since, so it's not like he totally hates them - he just really disliked the way the show was run, which was - and still is very hectic.

JUST finished catching up and that ending was BRILLIANT
I was thinking that the question is
what is the doctor's real name
lol
...and TBH, it's not that important really, I just like calling him The Doctor.

A couple of questions though:
1- Will there be a new season in 2012?
2- Will 2013 have 11 reunite with past doctors for the 50th anniversary? If so I don't think I can handle the overload of Sexleccton and David Tennant X3

UGH waiting for more Who is gonna drive me bonkers, I should really consider watching the 3rd Doctor soon.
I think the 50th anniversary is simply guaranteed to have Tennant back as Ten. He'll be happy to come back, he's still as beloved as Doctors get, and he left on very good terms.

The other Doctors is where things are up in the air. People who are too old, too dead, or simply don't want to come back.

I would of course love Nine, Ten and Eleven together, but I don't expect Nine to ever be back, as much of a tragedy that that is, but in his place I'd like Eight to return. Not only would it be nice for McGann to get more time on screen as the Doctor, but his Doctor was the one who participated in the Time War, it opens up lots of interesting areas for their inevitable Doctor/Doctor conversations.

Okay, so I'm rewatching Pandorica/Big Bang and we didn't find out in those episodes why the TARDIS exploded, right? It just happened, on a certain date?
I remember after Wedding of River Song some people said something about it being revealed that the Silents caused the explosion, but I can't recall anything like that. Can anyone enlighten me?

Best to just forget about it. Moffat has.

Caught up, finally. I thought the finale was entertaining enough, even if I didn't like a lot of it. As usual, there were a lot of visually striking moments (the Silents on the ceiling!) and some sharp writing and sly references. The "hidden in plain sight" thing is as eye-rollingly bad as "you are not alone/YANA" - if it's breaking the 4th wall, it's also alarmingly pretentious. Overall, it didn't really deliver in the same way The Impossible Astronaut/Day of The Moon did, which is a little disappointing.

While I generally like Moffat's writing and I think the series as a whole is stronger under his leadership, episodes like this finale suffer when he's trying too hard to be clever. I still prefer this to OH SHIT DALEKS AGAIN, but I hope he focuses more on strong story-telling and character development in the next finale and less on narrative smoke and mirrors.

It bugs me that they went full Jesus with this. Now, he has his own religion, he grew a beard and tried to sacrifice himself for the good of it all. They've done this before, but come on! The hidden in plain site makes no real sense either. Oh, finding out the secret of the Doctor ends the universe? Why?

Meh. At least the ending basically said "Yeah, we're done with the Jesus stuff."

Finally had the chance to watch the Girl Who Waited. That's exactly the kind of stuff this series was missing. I also loved the parallel between Amy and Centurion Rory and how they handled the ambiguity of her survival. Gillian's acting sold me on the drama. It could have done without some of the action, however, especially considering the robots' designs didn't scream menacing.

10/10, IMO it was the best Doctor-lite episode in the six seasons since the revival. Still catching up.

Turn Left remains the best Doctor-lite episode. That story was a complete masterpiece, with some seriously dark themes and a great exploration of society.

The Girl Who Waited was good, but I feel like it had some pacing issues in the second half (particularly when we got 'silly fight sequence'). The final minutes of that episode were absolutely amazing, however.

Turn Left was actually pretty good-I do however agree with him about The Girl Who Waited-it's one of my favorites of New Who ever. I've seen that people either love that episode or hate it. That's the exact type and style of story I love. I also like the fact that it's pretty much about Rory, really-and I loved the scenes with Rory and The Doctor in the TARDIS. (Especially the "glasses are cool" scene)

I don't hate it. It's fine. Not great or bad.

Turn Left has some really strong ideas and plotting. It's one of my RTD faves. My only complaint with that episode is Billie Piper; she is bland as fuck when she's supposed to be mysterious.

I feel weird agreeing with you when we've never done so in the past. :/

I can't tell you how much I want that. Was it expensive and is an extra Rory toy also expensive?

Uh yeah, I opened up the box and thought to myself (I WANT THIS). But it's hers, alas.

And yes, there is no Rory figure which makes no sense because they have figures of all these secondary characters from one-off episodes like "Uncle" from The Doctor's Wife and The Winders from The Beast Below.

She does love little Amelia though so I have to order one. This whole thing ran me about 50 bucks on amazon believe it or not...

Just posting to say that the latest Sarah Jane was a great episode, one of the best in the series. It'll be sad to see it end next week.
