What did you say to get banned? Did they determine you were a "Chud" as well?
Not allowed to discuss here :)
"Leave the kids alone"

Banned (permanent):
Dismissive of genocide, promoting bigotry, sexism, ableism, racism, misogyny, violence towards transgenders, promoting white supremacy, console warring
I fucking lol'd. Mine's listed, tho.

Anyway, back on topic: What race / class y'all playing?

I'm surprised people are excited about this game. It looks like the equivalent of a throwaway Netflix movie—something that isn't terrible or very good; it's just "good enough" to entertain you for a few weeks and then quickly forgotten. Something that should be a day 1 on gamepass kinda game. So many modern AAA games feel like this and I dont know why so many gamers are ok with this, especially coming from well-known game developers. Have gamer's standards really dropped that much?

There is plenty of marketing material and previews for veteran players like us to make some sensible conclusions, we can check how dialogue options look, how characters look, its very offputing even for fan of the series like myself, doubt game gonna attract new players if it cant even retain its old playerbase of core veterans who love the series/genre and bought previous part(s) at launch back in the days.
Not only that, but for veterans of the series there are more things to base our worries than just purple and writing.

The fact that Origins was peak Dragon Age, that after Mass Effect 2 everything started to slowly decline for Bioware, ME Andromeda, that "tiny tiny" screw-up named Anthem, the messy development Veilgard had, from single player to live service then back to single player, all while big players from the staff were leaving left and right.

We're not just talking out of our ass here, it's not like, "Oh what a nice day, what should I do now?, I know, I'll trash on Dragon Age, don't know the game, but it seems like a good idea".

I very recently got done with a Baldur's Gate 3 playthrough. Going from those companions to Veilguard's is going to be so fucking jarring.

In order for me to play this, as woke as it is, it needs to have at least an 85 metacritic after a week. I'm sticking to that. They can still win, but they just have to do a good game, not a shitty one. Woke won't exclude me from a good game, but an average game....pfft I got better usage of my time. Doubt it breaks 85 but if it does, day 1. I shit you not. They will win or lose this by metacritic.

Combat looks like Mass Effect 3 which isn't actually a great thing, but also not a terrible thing. ME3 is a goat but the dumbing down of the combat from 1 was also basically what Dragon age has done since origins. That's why it is so reminiscent. I recognize a lot of the moves from ME. We'll see. 85.

I caved and preordered, haven’t played a game since I dropped destiny but think it’s time to give it another go. Ps5 incase I have a lapse in judgement and end up with a pro…

As someone who doesn’t care about any messaging the game may or may not be pushing. All I see is an action RPG with a questionable, at first glance, art style. But it doesn’t have bullshit monetization, and the devs have been saying all the things I want to hear, with it being on steam and no Denuvo DRM.

What if the people reviewing are just as "woke" and feel duty bound to prop up the game in support of their peers?

Chuds gonna chud.

Super stoked for this, trailer and everything we've seen so far has me hyped AF.

not surprised. people cant just stay out of things they dont enjoy

Listen, I get it, the "anti-woke" shite is getting tiring and as insufferable as the "woke" one(s) but you gotta understand, you and others are doing the same exact thing but in reverse and you're as much insufferable as the ones you're trying to stone with this goddamn condescending and patronizing attitude.

Do you get a dollar every time you write “chud”? 😂 Tell me you spent 7 years on on the purple forum without telling me you spent 7 years on forum.

What bothers me that most board members don’t even seem to know the series. They’re happy that it has “good graphics.” Are yall a bunch of kids? Do you not remember origins?
Ah, I've found another.

Do you remember Mass Effect 1? I remember playing ME2 on launch and being so disappointed they had dumbed that series down from an RPG to an actual action game with really no rpg elements to speak of. It was fucking tragic. Just ability spam.

Looking at it thru today's eyes though, ME1 is my least favorite.

DA has done the same thing, shitty as it is. My original Origins playthru is still remembered to this day. I do miss when Bioware was a little more like WRPGs instead of 2018 God of Wars. That said, a good story and characters can go a long way. I simply doubt this game has them. That's why I'm letting metacritic sort this one out for me.

LOL receipts for what? As you should well know, it takes VERY little to end up banned on ERA, and is entirely unrelated to the point I am making in this thread.

Further, it doesn't mean I can't think the people pearl clutching over "hurr durr the kids" because of a scar in the character creator of an M-rated videogame aren't also fucking retarded.

This really isn't the "gotcha" you think it is. Life has nuance. It's possible to think plenty of people on ERA are fucking idiotic with how far they take political correctness and ACTUAL far-left bullshit, whilst also finding the ultra-batshit right wing religious nuts on this board that thinly veil their bigotry as caring about the kids stupid as shit.

I've said it many times before tho -- I'd rather suffer through the morons here because you can call them retarded and move on. You can go cry about it if it hurts your feelings so much :)

They aren't capable enough to do a conspiracy theory and keep it secret, so I would know in the first 10 minutes of embargo dropping if the reviews lied. Also ordinarily I would only require this game to get an 80, but since it is woke I'm bumping those reqs up to 85. They need to use the woke to up the numbers by conning the reviewers into conspiracy theories and achieving an 85 or I'm not buying it. It'll be easier said than done, so they will have a hard time ahead of them if they didn't make a really good game reaching that 85.

For my part, it's more like "not brainwashing kids is the practical reason I'm against this, but just kind of thinking it's lame as shit, immersion breaking despite being optional, and so keyed into modern identity politics and bad writing that it's going to date itself in five years so I'm against it,"

I know we already sniffed each other's asses and walked in circles, just throwing that out there.

I am not the same as these retards you speak of.

I'm a special retard.

Can you name a single good game that people are missing out on due to cultural wars?

A lot of people here complained about Last of Us 2, God of War Ragnarok as being too woke. There’s a bunch of people on the DQ3 remake thread complaining about it being too woke and wanting to boycott the game. Meanwhile, people on ResetEra want to boycott Kingdom Come 2, banned discussions on Cyberpunk and Harry Potter.

It’s all completely bonkers to me. I’m just in it for the games. I don’t care about anyone’s agenda. I don’t really want DEI “forced” into games, but people are completely overstating the issue and driving themselves crazy over nonsense IMO.

The combat preview had me feeling kinda meh, but that trailer is pretty awesome. Maybe way later after a bunch of reviews.

Thank you for the answer, I wanted examples of those. TLOU 2 may be the only clear case of rejection due to narrative decisions labeled as woke.

As for DA, agendas aside, it's immersion-breaking to insert real-life issues into fantasy. This is objective and can't be argued. It's ok that some people don't care about it, but calling names to the ones who do, is being a bit of a prick.

Not related to wokeness, I personally reject games with translations that use modern language in an ancient or fantasy setting, It's ok that some people don't care but I do and they should either try to understand my reasons for rejecting it or just shut the fuck up instead of calling names.

I get that context can be hard over the internet, but we're in a thread about the new Dragon Age game. Obviously I don't know if it's going to be good or not, but that was the implication. And, as others have mentioned, TLoU2 is generally regarded as very good outside anti-woke echo chambers, but I've not played it so I can't confirm.

TLOU2 feels good to play and looks and sounds beautiful.

It's written and relayed like what I'd imagine an elephant placenta coming out of a human's butt would be, you know, as an experience.

I'm trying desperately not to get involved with you fine gentlemen going back and forth engaging in culture wars. I happen to agree with elements of both sides!

Please leave TLOU2 out of it as I genuinely loved that game, but not for a third playthrough with a PS5 Pro patch.

This is totally fine to me. I really couldn’t get past the opening hour of Spider Man 2 because of how much cringe DEI crap with shit writing was shoehorned into it.

But the fact remains, that most people here don’t show the same sensibility you’re showing. There’s a lot more “lul DEI”, like the “More MS games coming to playstation” thread that straight up had a joke about the MC suddenly being black and having a fried chicken drumstick in his hand in the PS5 person of Fable.

I mean, some of it is funny, or justified, but most of it is just kind of a weird wacky obsession.

I don't care about Bioware, but I don't want to hear about another studio closure, so I hope it's good and sells well enough for everyone's sake.

By the way Kacho Kacho I'm not going to make it in time, my marathon of Dragon Age games has come to a crawl because I have just reached Inquisition and it unfortunately took the wrong lessons from a lot of Ubisoft games with it's open biomes, including collectathon/MMO-style sidequests. Compared to the two before it which were paced very very well, I now find myself playing a podcast-game that might take me up to 100 hours to complete.
I still need to finish up MechWarrior Clans so I don’t think I’ll make it either. Plus Vampire Survivors Castlevania drops next week along with Red Dead Redemption on PC which I’m more interested in.

Trailer looked good. Though I didnt get a great sense of scale or exploration. Is that a thing in this franchise?

Like looking at the Skyrim or Witcher 3 trailer, we see a number of locations. Here, while they show towns or cities..everything seems to be sectioned off and floating.

This will be more linear like older BioWare games with smaller hub areas to explore

They only really had large open maps in Inquisition, this one is going back to the simpler non open maps similar to the earlier games (which are fairly similar to the Mass Effect trilogy).

After looking at the trailer again, I noticed the Qunari design from DA2, the best design for them, is also in Veilguard.

WqaLcwg.jpeg

So why the fuck are there multiple ugly-looking Qunari as well? The baby-face looking ones. Kinda weird.
This confirms for me that they're trying to do both, the Human-like ones in Origins with large foreheads/no horns and the horned ones in DA 2/Inquisition.

I know some people don't like Asmongold, but he once said "Blizzard is always one good trailer away from everyone forgiving them." Which is always the case with any game I find.
This is true. As long as your current game is great, your past mistakes won't matter as much to gamers. The problem here though is that Dragon Age 4 doesn't look great. It's crazy to think there was a time I was worried EA would close Bioware but now I wish EA would close the studio and give their IPs to another studio.
As someone who doesn’t care about any messaging the game may or may not be pushing. All I see is an action RPG with a questionable, at first glance, art style. No offense but this is what I mean by low standards. Bioware is one of EA's top developers alongside Respawn and Dice. A Bioware RPG should have the same level of quality as other big RPGs like Cyberpunk or Baulder Gate 3 at a minimum. Every Bioware RPG should be in the running as one of the Best RPGs of its generation. IMO that's the expectation a Bioware RPG should have and this Dragon Age isn't even close to that. It feels like most gamers expectation these days for a game is to just not be outright terrible.
