Embargo on Nintendo Switch console/games previews lift on February 23th / March 1st

I think that considering the reception of the title at E3, receiving a lot of game of the show awards for what constituted of the tutorial area of the game. The excitement that it got, the preview from game informer being pretty glowing, i doubt this game is going to be divisive. It's the direction of what a big amount of people wanted the series to go and every single aspect that i would have some worry is reassured when they describe it further. The team making this game set it out to make the ultimate zelda game so it will really please people overall.

In terms of reviews, this series has the prestige like metal gear, uncharted, gta and others has, which already guarantees a high metacritic score. Considering how fresh the game is, i don't see how some "concerning" posts are appearing. I have faith in this game and mario odyssey to be really big breakthroughs for nintendo and show their ambitious with their two most prestigious franchises.

I'm getting Bomberman because I'm getting BotW almost a day after I get my Switch, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be sitting at home on launch day with a brand new Switch and nothing to play :P

Aonuma confirmed multiple endings. Depends if you focus on the story or not. If you run straight to Ganon you will see a different ending then those people who tackle every shrine and dungeon.

Well According to Nintendo, every "game over" screen has a branching timeline so if you died during the game, power off the system and move on.

No Shirt, tree branch weapon ,Calamity Ganon run. Insta death..."man that was a short Zelda game"

Uhh, you sure an ending depends on us going through all 120 shrines? Not just the dungeons?

True, but I'm worried about the loading times and the online modes. Sure, if local multiplayer will be fun as usual, it'll be enough.

This is kinda true. The vast majority of what we've seen is literally the tutorial. And that Tutorial area alone won E3 awards. The last time I remember getting so hyped about an opening like that alone was Resident Evil 4.

That being said, the tutorial zone could like God of War and have the most attention put into it. But they're clearly keeping some cards close to their chests I feel.

You should consider movies as a hobby, instead of those darned interactive games.
What a ridiculous statement. Stop playing games to 'be done' with them. Play them for fun.

Zelda is an open world game, that it gives players actual consequences for their actions is really liberating for the franchise. Obviously the ending should be different if someone decides to travel straight to the end boss.
 
if Zelda gets bad scores, the bloodbath in the review thread will be worse than Bowling Green and the Sweden incident put together
 
Hot damn! Looks like we have something to look forward to at the end of this week/beginning of next! I guess the timing here kind of rules out that magical Nintendo Direct we were hoping for...

for those of us who are on a zelda media blackout. I thought I was safe in here considering this wasn't a zelda thread

Zelda review meltdowns are going to be so unnecessary. It's a Zelda game and it's been in development for a bazillion years and delayed like three times. It's not going to be a bad game. The worst it's going to be is a regular Zelda game. 8.0, 8.8, 9.4, who cares? It's pointless to even discuss. 99% of consumers already know whether they'll like this. Nintendo doesn't faceplant on mainline Zelda games.

I mean it's a thread about the review embargo for titles. It's not going to be a place you want to hang out if you're looking for a media blackout. That's typically how these threads work.

I had to hire an internet "taste tester" to avoid spoilers. He browses Gaf and Twitter all day for me and presents me with a spoiler-free briefing at the end of the day.

Like the opening of Resi 4, the game seems to show just how a departure from series past it was/is and how the new mechanics and ideas work so well. One of my favorite games is Red Dead Redemption, mainly for the attention to detail that went into the day~night cycle and the care they took into making the horses aces to control and their animation. I never expected a zelda title to do the same thing and actually going above and beyond it. Every single time that i think "oh they wouldn't do that in zelda" they actually do it and it's flawless.

I am honest and I am one of these people. I own a PS4 and will buy Horizon and love that it get great reviews but I will smile when Zelda has a higher score. And the worst part is that I cant do anything against this feeling...it is just there.

I cant co-sign this but I can say that I do feel like there is a definite anti-nintendo slant on GAF. It is refreshing when they drop critically acclaimed games as to me it is a reminder to the industry that no matter what bullshit Nintendo is up to, they still make em with the best of them.

I will say that it would be very interesting to see what the Horizon thread would look like had that games reviews been unabashedly positive.

I have a PS4 and sold my wiiu and I hope the switch will be a return to form for Nintendo. Heres to hoping. They make my favorites games and do not want their capacity in the industry diminshed in any way.

Really glad Horizon turned out awesome for GG. I have the game pre-ordered and it definitely has destroyed the stigma that they can only make FPS games. Heres hoping God of War is gonna also be amazeballs.
