Local actress our family knows (the mother from Babadook) is gonna be in GOT this season as an actress impersonating Cercei in a travelling theater thing.

Will have to keep a look out.

I forgot how hellish French grammar is.

No wonder English became the lingua franca. Not nearly as much bullshit.

Ive never tried French but Spanish is 100000x easier than English. You might get 4 exceptions to something in Spanish, in English, something actually following a rule is the exception

Trying to decide if I prefer Alien or The Thing

I might have to give the edge to The Thing, but they're definitely both top top top tier horror

English is straight up nonsense like half the time

The reason it's the lingua franca probably has something to do with that fucking awful thing called The British Empire

Jobbs only watches films produced by Happy Gilmore productions

Wouldn't surprise me

I can't make a full list because if I tried to do it off hand I'm sure I'd forget stuff

but Nightcrawler is one of my favorite movies to come out in recent years if not THE favorite

*thinks of a few random good films*

What do you think of:
Taxi Driver
The Big Lebowski
Mullholland Drive
Shaun of the Dead
Grosse Point Blank

(If you have not seen any of those films, go and watch them)

EDIT:

your wrongness, if harnessed, could power my neighborhood block
FOR FUCKS SAKE JOBBS

I don't frequently watch comedies and if I do I sure as hell don't watch adam sandler shit. makes me long for the 90s when we could use the R word

You don't have a choice in this matter

I don't *hate* Mad Max, and I appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it, but I did find myself getting bored by the relentless action. I need more characterization to earn the action. I go a bit extra on negging it just to get a rise out of people.

Children of Men had some of the most memorable and impactful action scenes I can think of and it was neither ridiculous or unearned

And I know you love me so stop it already

Seen all but Grosse Point Blank, which I'm not sure.

Taxi Driver was good

I don't like The Big Lebowski and don't like most Coen Brothers films, one of the only exceptions being No Country, but even that pissed me off at the end

Mullholland Drive is the most tolerable of the David Lynch movies which tend to just be too weird for me, but I liked how it felt like a dream and the lesbian shit is the only thing I really specifically remember

Shaun of the Dead I have no strong feelings. I don't like action comedies, but I guess it was ok. I really didn't like Hot Fuzz at all.

Here's some other movies I love:

  • Children of Men
  • Heat
  • Collateral
  • Gone Baby Gone
  • Gone Girl
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (I liked the Fincher verison but I think I liked the original ones better)
  • The Way of the Gun
  • The Departed
  • Drive
  • Europa Report
  • Sunshine

i just saw the original Mad Max (1979) and it was awful.

haven't seen Fury Road yet

1 doesn't have a ton in common with the other three movies.

Fury road has way more characterization than most movies.

Also this is to the death level stuff. We can't both be standing when it ends

Like

You do like some good films

But you have garbo opinions on the Coens and Lynch and Wright

Also fuck off with this "earned" crap, fucking hate that shit in GAF film threads. It doesn't mean anything

A more extreme version of "unearned action" is the entire opening scene of Age of Ultron. The movie opens and a bunch of people are turning into CGI cartoons and fighting and shit's happening all over the screen and nothing is at stake for me to care.

It makes me think that most film goers are drooling R words

Stop being such a retarded faggot. /90s "attitude"

Also, I would fight anyone to the death over Fury Road. I love that film so much

It's the fucking setup for the events of the film

What the fuck are you even saying

And the point of not saying retarded isn't the fucking word, it's because you're insulting people by saying they have mental health problems, which is gross. Saying "the r word" is just as bad, it carries the same meaning

Don't, accept them as two of the best that stand on individual grounds.

Love 'em.

Also Big Trouble in Little China is one of the best action films ever.

And I love Drive as well, but I really don't get how you can accept what goes on in Drive but not what happens in Fury Road. Just because there's more intense explosions and the setting is more fantastical doesn't mean it's somehow "less earned".

edit: Also I'd love to see a garbo opinion fight between jobbs and RNH. It's the battle of the "your favorite thing is bad."

if you think age of ultron was a well paced movie then we'll have to have a word about garbo opinions

I'm betting they're all pornos. He keeps a copy of "50 Shaved Old Gays" in his closet.

...we weren't talking about pacing though?

We were talking about the bullshit "unearned" criticism. Like the film genuinely wouldn't make sense without that film.

Also *points to my edit of my last post*

I give your attempts at overcompensation an 8 out of 10. Next time, also drink a bunch of beer and invite all your friends to a football game.

I don't use the R word because it's insensitive, but even when I did use it back in the day -- It was never leveled against people with actual mental health problems

And if the only way your story makes sense is to open with a pointless, tedious, dull, weightless battle that wasn't led up to by anything then restructure your story.

Off hand the only example of it working is Saving Private Ryan, but even then we established tension a bit before they hit shore

Movies and music and books and everything else basically boil down to accumulating and releasing tension

cartoon cgi people flying weightlessly around screen blowing things up with nothing to lead into it is just bad. you can't do it that way.

*points to Bond films which have been doing this forever*

Loki's sceptre plays a central role in the film. It is the origin of the Ultron AI and the gem inside it is later used to create Vision. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are also introduced here. Scarlet Witch, who puts the events of the film into motion by making Tony more paranoid and such than he was before.

All three of these things have previously been established to be held by Hydra.

How would you suggest they get to the point they are at after retrieving the sceptre without an action scene that would make sense?

And intention or not, doesn't make it alright. You wouldn't insult someone by calling them a nigger or "the n word" then say "oh no I'm not using it towards black people"

in age of ultron's case I suggest they burn the entire script

I think I had never been so bored in my entire life

I didn't say it was alright. I just said I don't use the word.

That's not how it works. People use it from the same mouth in a nonnegative way for people with mental deficiencies(you really can't now tbh but it still carries that connotation) and then use it as an insult at other people. Its the same thing people do with "aspie"/"sperg"/"on the spectrum". Sure they might normally use it fine towards someone who actually fits but then you're going and making fun of someone else using the same words. Its like using a spoon to feed your dog and then using it to give food to a guest.

I don't use the word. I used to when I was young and more stupider. It was mostly out of ignorance, though, I had no malice

I didn't say it was alright. I just said I don't use the word.

It sounded a bit like you were trying to justify saying it in the past. Would have been fine if you left the last part out

Age of Ultron put me to sleep. Big disappointment after how briskly paced and entertaining The Avengers was.

thank you

Being over dramatic about your taste in film.

thank you. multiple people want to physically fight me because I don't particularly care for a movie about people driving cars in the desert and killing eachother

It sounded a bit like you were trying to justify saying it in the past. Would have been fine if you left the last part out

I only meant that I was ignorant, not hateful

thank you

Lol, I don't want to fight you, not least because you'd probably win

I just want you to know that you're wrong c:

And it's just something to think about, I never thought it came from a hateful place. It's just one of those things you know? Like how you've told Hitler Nurse why some things she's said are shitty :p
