This related article was posted earlier, regarding CinemaScore (usually a pretty useless metric) noting that Fantastic Four was the lowest score for a big budget superhero film from a major studio.

But it's the lowest CinemaScore for any superhero movie period - tied only with...

According to polled audience members on opening weekend, the two worst superhero movies ever made are these two:

The Spirit was so fucking different from it's ads that I couldn't help but love it.

There's no way.

"Everything I've heard would indicate that the studio will move forward with a Fantastic Four sequel," Drew McWeeny of HitFix reports. "It may not make that original 2017 date, but they're definitely planning to make it."

During this mess, sources from everywhere have been crawling out of the woodwork to provide details on what went wrong between the director and the studio. Trank claimed in his now-infamous tweet that he had a "fantastic" film at one time, but McWeeny heard much differently. "He may claim that his cut a year ago was amazing, but that opinion was not shared by the majority of the people working on the film," McWeeny wrote. "There were internal conversations at that point about potentially scrapping everything. That's how strong the concerns were."

Sony was still going to move forward with about a half dozen Spider-Man movies right after ASM2.

Not that this is going to send Fox to dealing with Marvel anytime soon, but the movie just opened literally a couple days ago. Their first move can't be to be seen running in the complete opposite direction, even if they end up doing it eventually.

X1 was far from trash. Low-budget, lacking in specatacle, sure. But for the first time, we had a superhero movie that was a step beyond just being a comic book movie. That had some social relevance, that had a conflict beyond megalomania and campy highjinks. Even Blade just a year earlier easily fell into that trap of "well, it's still a silly comic book movie".

...the plot was silly though, I'll turn the worlds leaders into mutants and lets see what they do NOW when 120- 200 people are now mutants after i use my ...magnetic powered mutant making (thats some crazy good tech) machine. Gee I dunno Mags...probably throw them under the bus and have the people just below them supplant most of them...oh yeah..

they also said there'd be Spider-man movies and a DBZ sequel

Fox isn't Sony... and I think they still see value because they have made comic movies that do well.

I mean Kingsman bucked expectations this year!

ASM 2 underperformed based on Sony's pie in the sky projections. Of course, Sony was practically in the hospital and needed something right away to stop the bleeding.

FF crashed before it even got out of the driveway. But Fox has plenty of cash, and don't need to meet with Marvel if they don't want to.

C'mon, link to the original article. It's not hard to find.

Drew McWeeny said:
Josh Trank may have fired off his disgruntled Tweet late Thursday night, but there are things about what he said that don't sit right with me. Trank had the studio's support on this film far longer than would seem justified because Fox was so very aware of how it would look if they pushed the young filmmaker off of his movie. They made him work for the greenlight before they decided to go ahead with the movie, and whatever Trank wants to say about how he was handled, he was the one who directed the film. The studio wasn't making daily changes or forcing him to shoot material he didn't help create. They were doing everything they could to keep him on schedule and on budget, and they surrounded him with crew that they trusted. They wanted this film to work. Even when things weren't working, the studio still worked to find a way to have Trank solve those problems. He may claim that his cut a year ago was amazing, but that opinion was not shared by the majority of the people working on the film. There were internal conversations at that point about potentially scrapping everything. That's how strong the concerns were. Even so, they decided to back Trank while looking for ways to fix the movie, and the end result is the film audiences largely didn't bother to see in theaters this weekend.

Everything I've heard would indicate that the studio will move forward with a "Fantastic Four" sequel. It may not make that original 2017 date, but they're definitely planning to make it. The next filmmaker in is going to start from a difficult position, and they're going to have to work hard to create their own movie while starting with some of Trank's choices intact. For better or worse, Trank was given room to define these characters, and his signature will remain on the next film no matter who writes and directs it. The next movie will be a reaction to this one. What remains to be seen is whether or not this incident overall will test Fox's resolve to try to support their filmmakers. It would be understandable if they suddenly reverted to the way things used to be, when you did what Fox said or they would just steamroll you.

Of course they're currently "committed to a sequel" ... what are they gonna tell people? That "Nope! All they're talking about is how they can break a deal with Marvel cause at this rate making more FF movies to keep the rights will just make them lose money to ultimately spite a competitor ..."?

Sony had everything ready to get going on an ASM 3 and even wanted to take on a Spidey-verse ... and ASM2 actually did WELL if looked at outside of the series.

There's territories the movie still hasn't opened yet. This is what they have to be saying at this point. If we ever start hearing rumblings about whether or not negotiations are going on, they aren't going to come for at least another month or two. Right now, while the movie is still in theaters, they have no choice but to appear strong. That being said, there's no way they're making a direct sequel to this movie. It'd almost be a better financial choice to just light the money on fire.

You probably have to wait at least a decade before trying another Fantastic Four movie at this point.

But knowing Fox, they'll get a different director and put another one out in 3 years.

I won't be surprised if this ends up as a "John Carter" situation, where studio execs' heads start rolling. I'd be gunning for Emma Watts to drop first, considering she was one of the people reportedly screwing with the script just before production began.

So what's the likelihood that discussion with Marvel are already underway? Kind of like how Marvel had a different scripts for Civil War way before it was announced Spiderman was joining the MCU

Well, as said above, Fox isn't in as bad of a situation as Sony, but then they ARE confirmed to be in talks with Marvel regarding an X-Men tv series and there's no way Marvel would approve without getting something in return.

I remember seeing Spirit over Gran Torino, I was a idiot.

Also, of course FOX is standing by FF2. they can't have a firesale yet.

Some one missed the point. Magneto intended to expose human hypocrisy.

Magneto's plan in X1 makes more sense than almost all villain plots in comic book movies. The plan itself isn't even actually super malicious, he's just a dick about it.

Actually it makes too much sense for most comic book movies nowadays, especially since it doesn't involve a city destroying senseless battle at the end.

yeah the whole point is they don't care about their hypocrisy , and magneto of all would know this, before hatching a plan that could be thwarted by a call to the authorities and an evacuation. Oh my God....really, the whole reason he's fighting is they are hypocritical. He's based his whole reasoning on the nature of the person , mutant shouldn't be under the authority of humans, and yet after changing the world leaders to mutants , suddenly they aren't going to be replaced? Since they aren't human but mutant. He can't have both , he's just adding to the mutant population not changing the human one.

Behold i will show you the hypocrisy and cause 200 more people to be victims of said hypocrisy, and be right back where he started. With the added bonus that you might create fucking Proteus or even worse the third Summers(such a terrible character) sibling since he is creating mutants at will .

Magneto's plan...was dumb, DoFP handled him much better, and was much truer to what is "left" of Magnus after the holocaust and his countries civil wars. Sympathy is a luxury he wants people to know capability and willingness to use them if threatened. He is also feels justified by his mutation to be in charge which i will say they have in the very least pulled that off in the xmen films.
