if this game ends up looking like that ^ screenshot, ill eat my own hat.

And if they are insisting on people paying a monthly fee for this year long beta, then they should at least do it for like half price or something. $8 a month or whatever

lol gaf never forgets.

Oh. My. God. :o

Wow, hopefully this isn't some form over function bullshit.

I'll check it out though, with trepidation.

It being better still doesn't mean it's in a release state yet. So the "really good" part is most certainly a lie.

I've been wanting to jump back in and the changes thus far look awesome. I'm going to reinstall when I go home today and if I like it, I could see myself paying for at least a few months. I think I'm finally ready to throw in the towel for FFXI...Abyssea was great until the last few months where it became a convoluted time-sink yet again. I just don't have time for it and if there's no more compelling story-based content like the major expansions, now's a good time to be done with the game after so long.

FFXI's been slowly reverting to Tanaka-era junk recently which is why it's a convoluted time-sink. It's been happening since they finished Abyssea. I'm actually a bit tired of it myself and I may end up just throwing the towel for good, myself.

"Really good" is relative.
I think it's really good as well, then again, I'm a crazy person.

Sad but true, I was hoping all the great changes to FFXI were an indication of where the game was headed to separate it from XIV more, but I guess it was just a distraction while most of the team was busy fixing XIV.

I was hoping SE would be able to juggle both MMOs but if FFXI is turning back into what it once was, I guess it's time. Which is sad because it is still my favourite game of all time. FFXIV is gorgeous but it just doesn't have the charm and memories that XI has for me. I need my super-midget Tarutarus and Galkas with tails.

I think FFXIV has already received all the bashing it could, probably deservedly.

But this is IMPRESSIVE and will make for a fantastic FF in a bit more than a year if they do implement every of this.

-New races/classes
-Achievement system
-User-provided UI add-on
-A complete overhaul of maps/system/server/UI
-The new art looks amazing

And the game already added chocobo raising, airships, summon battles, quests, mission quests, etc.

I seriously can't wait to play the PS3 version, say what you will...

I don't think much of FFXI and found FFXIV's monumental failure of a launch very amusing, but I quite like what I seeing in that screenshot.

Is FF14 available via digital download anywhere? I'm intrigued by the 2.0 changes and am kinda considering looking into it now just so I can experience the before/after.

I'm amazed you're still playing, Shouta.

Anway... FFXIV: gonna be interesting to see the user numbers after the fee is restored next month.

2.0 screenshot: looks pretty, but that doesn't mean it will be fun to play.

Anyone thinking the game will look like that picture (unless you mean the UI, in which case, wow that's cluttered) is on some crack. Seek help. Seriously.

Ok. So here are the questions for current players.

1. how much was original sub fee?
2. if I get in and create the character now, and cancel the account, how long does SE keep my character alive before they totally delete it for good? I might just sign in now for a name registration purpose.

Not for digital download, but you can get a physical copy dirt cheap.

i feel the exact same way

Sort of amusing, decided to look @ XIV forums and the general feedback about the P2P is actually rather accepting if not positive.

From what I gathered off the terrible account management page: 10$ plus 3 per character, so minimum 13, maximum 34.

=\ I wouldn't go to that place to get an idea of how the general 14 population feels.

What is the average subscription fee for an MMO?
I think if they price XIV's fee comparatively lower than other MMO's it might stand a chance for a profitable future.

Well I realize that. ZAM and the other areas are in an uproar on the other hand. . . Like I said, I found it a bit amusing how dedicated some folks are.

Nowadays? Free. Star Wars, Final Fantasy and World of Warcraft will be the only big names charging a fee.

Guild Wars 1/2, Age of Conan, DC Universe Online, Star Trek, Champions Online, City of Heroes, etc all make money through micro transactions.

Which makes FFXIV charging for a beta all the more hilarious.

Wait you don't even play the game but still said I was lying? lmao

1. €13 a month
2. I don't even know if you can do that, why not just keep your account?

I wasn't even referring to you. I was talking to djplaeskool.

Anyway $13 is absurd.
Also I played FFXI die-hard, so I had fond memory of FF-online. So I thought I might just give it a shot when it reaches 2.0.

But then again the chances of it getting revivied to FF11-type glory is virtually slim to none by now since the real thing will happen 2013. -_-;

The new concept art tugs at my heartstrings. It embodies everything I want from a game when I'm misty-eyed. I'd be back on board if the new world is even a meager shadow of the artwork.

And when all of that has been added - THEN I'll pay. To expect people to pay for what we have currently is ridiculous.

I haven't played much recently. They've been Tanaka-ing it up and they still refuse to really fix jobs even though they're buffing them.

If tanaka is that bad (I mean he single hand-ly ruined FF14, and I recently learned he is the reason why Chain of Promathia was ass-suckingly bad) then why SE is still hiring him as a head of the team?

After FF14 disaster he and wada should have resigned.

I know for a fact that my LS (BG) will pay for current content. Patch 1.19 was an amazing update, and if they can pull that bullshot off, then they can pull off a profitable project.

Anyone who follows this more closely know if any of the people that worked on The Last Remnant were moved to the FFXIV team? Looking at the screenshot with its' modern and beautiful UI (While still remaining functional) reminded me a lot of TLR.

At first I thought that grid in the lower right was a raid frame of some sort but it really has too many data points for that. It's all really intriguing and seemingly functional, but the real proof will come in the responsiveness of the actual gameplay.

To be honest, I really can't see any way this game will ever be profitable in NA considering the current MMO market. Subscription wise you have WoW, Rift, and very soon SWTOR. Guild Wars 2 is coming with it's expansion pack (And probably cosmetic items if they aren't stupid) financial model. Throw in the countless microtransaction games available, almost all of which are better than the current iteration of FFXIV, and how do they plan on attracting any sort of player base? Besides 'final fantasy' what is their hook???

They don't have the design expertise/content pipeline to really bring in the hardcore raider crowd that Rift is trying to cater to nor the social effects that Wow's used to become as mainstream as an MMO can. And it's definitely not Star Wars (which always has mainstream/casual cachet)...who in that organization actually believes they can make money charging a subscription?

CoP has a good storyline and solid event battles. Tanaka knows how to do that sort of thing? His real problem is everything else.

I wonder what effect Dragon Quest X will have on this game. If the game comes out of the gate and is a hit while FFXIV struggles (which it will), what incentive would they have to keep throwing money at it?

Also, CoP did suck ass. Take off the rose glasses peoples. Pain in the ass, level capped bullshit filled with bullshit updates, topped with piss.

Oh I believe there ARE people to blame because of the massive failure that was FFXIV at launch (and some months after launch) but if you believe Tanaka is the sole responsible for this then you are sadly mistaken.

And CoP sucking ass? where do you get this, seriously.

And i think that's the way for the future of MMO's.
If you compare nowdays what a subscription fee MMO offers you with a F2P one,it does seem like a steal. We already have SP games that offer massive online worlds which are free of charge (other than the initial price you pay for the game of course) and i expect that in the next generation of consoles (which is around the corner),that anything that current subscription fee MMO's offer, will be freely available in regular SP games that will have MP elements implemented in their SP.
Subscription fees should be a thing of the past and i think many gamers are starting to realize this.

Man, I'd really like a hardcover version of that pdf. Echoing some earlier comments, I hope this art team is given the opportunity to work on another mainline FF game - would be nice to go back to the more traditional fantasy style after XIII and vsXIII.

Was going to jump into this soon since it would be free, but now I think I'll just wait and start paying when 2.0 launches. I recently purchased the LE since the available copies seem to be dwindling online and I love the cover art. I wonder if they will release new boxart and another LE when the game relaunches next year.

At least it'll probably have a lot of contents packed in when it's out.

The areas revamp is probably one of the greatest things they could do.
Btw is the game still using the market wards system? How useable is it now? Are they still not going to implement AH?

1.19 was a good update - there's no denying that. They fixed a tonne and added a lot of content - but is it enough to justify a full subscription? I'm glad some people will think so - but until late next year it doesn't look like it will be for me.

I'm strangely very curious to see how the game turns out. I really hope it ends up turning the game around, because I'm dying to play another online FF. It also helps that the art style is killer.

Will never play this but find it's on-going existence utterly fascinating.

...oh and wtf @ PS3 version in 2013 ....that's just ...wow

Wait if I'm reading this right, version 2.0 won't be implemented till April 2012. They are starting subscription fees in November 2011...

They want people to pay for the toke jopic that is the original FFXIV? (I understand they are adding content, but still full overhaul is needed.)

I'm guessing there will be a large drop in the population come November.
