I would like to see the magical melds that required 3 million. Control+3s are so cheap now, making the Control+4 option less appealing.

WELP. I READ THAT AS CRAFTING, NOT GATHERING. MY BAD.

Gathering materia isn't that expensive either if you skip out on the tier IVs.

Assuming we're not talking fishing, I don't think 3 mill is too crazy. I went through 1.8 on my right side one day without touching my offhand (which I think demands IVs?). I had so many failures I went through an entire stack of grade 3 carbonized matter and went through 35-40 Guerdon IIs.

Pentamelding is a bitch.

Dunno man, I mean the High Calibur, or whatever they're calling it, looks quite a bit different from the Curtana. So the Bard Relic might indeed be dropping the harp.

Is this another one of those Ramah type of things where you say something completely different than how it's said ingame? It's Excalibur and that's been it's model in FF games for years, no need to change the name of it yourself.

Oh man fuck this, fuck everything about this. I don't wanna go back to having to carry all kinds if resist gear.

If they really want to make materia useful they should just revamp the whole system, and make it more like Glyphs or the VII system. The fact that current materia is just boring stats is part of what is holding it back from being really relevant, it is just a way to make crafting gear more expensive than it needs to be right now.

Like I said, I don't think they'll take that route. It really wouldn't be casual friendly.

One thing I maybe could see them doing, is introducing new Materia types, that slightly boost the parameters of certain abilities, without actually changing core stats.

For example, Aetherflow II materia, to either slightly increase the rate at which Aetherflow could be used, or how much MP you could get back.

Would be a paaaaaain to balance it out though.

I spent like 3 million blowing up materia just to get my right side i55 gathering melded per the 2.4 guide. Crafting is way more insane than pony farming...wow. I now have to read guides on how to make money since I'm poor now.

What guide are you reading?

Crafting, though ... Command IVs just jumped in price and 8% melds for the Command Is if you go with III + I melds is still prohibitive. Competence IIs at were at 50k+ last night and like ... everything needs those as a 4th slot meld. It's still rather expensive to do basically any of the jewelry all the way through right now.

Yikes! Competence II on 4th slot? D:

I think all my crafting accessories melds are ordered in decreasing price and with current prices, it would be like...
Cunning IV, Competence II, Control III, Control I, Cunning II
I can't calculate the expected cost for these melds at work using the meld percentages and current MB prices, but I'm guessing anywhere from 200k-500k.

You can skip out on the Control I or Cunning II for another time on some of the right-side gear if you get and fully-meld the i60 Artisan's left-side gear. I like to hoard tier 1 and tier 2 gathering and crafting materia when they get to low prices for melding future gear.

I think that's what they were calling it in the Lil preview thing they did a few weeks back. If I am indeed remembering it correctly, yes, Excalibur would make a lot more sense.

Edit: Ah, re-read the Lil preview thing. High Calibur was just a pun it seems.

It was a case of the pun artist, WolvenOne, being bested by another pun artist, Bayohne.

I also melded some stuff on left side, too, but only like first 2 slots on most. Most the cost game from grasp IV materias and blowing up some of the various IIs and IIIs. However, my fisher can now catch Silver Sovereigns (315 gathering, 330 perception) and I caught 1 HQ and 3 NQ last night. The long trek to forager's has begun.

I also bought more materia than I needed, so I sold some of it back. If it all sells back, I'll recoup roughly 700K, putting me back over 1M GIL. Also people need to stop undercutting my crafting rings. I need to make some money.

If you're only doing FSH and not BTN and MIN, you melded out the wrong accessories. FSH go for any of the i70 accessories that battle classes use and stick Gathering+5 and Perception+5 on them, as these accessories provide more stats and GP is useless to FSH. The guide you linked does a poor job at explaining how to adjust meld order and materia choices based on market board prices, but I suppose that is outside the scope of that guide.

Gotcha. But for MIN/BTN, the right side is correct? I do want to be able to gather higher level stuff, too.

Meld caps seem correct and their suggested meld order is one way of reaching those caps. I would have suggested different meld orders, but that doesn't mean the guide is wrong.

Why would you pay for tier 1 materia? Go buy the craft/gathering gear in Black Brush for 100gil per set and spiritbond them in 2 minutes against the cactaurs a 1 min walk away. Spend an hour or two there and you'll have 40-50 of each type.

It might be so cheap it's not worth the trouble. Time is money after all.

Because then I don't have to do what you just said!

Dear diary:

Will I ever find a group for T9 that can even reach Heavensfall? Before SCoB becomes even more irrelevant? Ugh... I'm going to start Duty Finding it.

So after some members leaving my raid group finally started with FCoB this week, with two pugs to fill the slots. We managed to down T10 and T11 before reset, and I got dreadwyrm pants for my SCH. Not bad.

Personally relic upgrade can't come soon enough. I'm the only one in the raid that bothers with relic (since healers are last on queue for tomestones) and I'm finding myself a bit overwhelmed with regards to healing in FCoB. T11 adds phase is nightmare and more healing potency will be welcomed with open arms.

So what should a MNK be doing in T10? I was filling in for a group and one of them said my dps was on the low end? I was doing about 410 with the soldiery weapon...meh

Well you may have run out of time for that...

Do i need to post the flowchart again?

DF cannot save you now and there's a general dearth of learning whatever. Pray for nerfs or embrace stagnation.

Dear diary: Today I learned Dragon Kick is overpowered. There was a conversation a few pages back about how no one would bring a MNK just for DK, and all I gotta say is do t13.

Seriously, it's a bit ridiculous how much of a difference it makes. Maybe it's just that Optimus Prime has so much INT that since it's % based it scales really well.

They only purposely not release patch notes early when they are hiding something that will piss people off. Personal Housing is the best example of this.
Something always pisses someone off. I don't think they care at this point what people think about stuff like that.

Yoshida made DK OP on purpose. Gotta encourage that JP pride.

How is THAT a good idea? Is there nobody in the FC you're in to help you out? What's the difficulty? If it's the other people then that should help. If you're very desperate you can do what I did and literally write down what you're gonna be doing at what moment and at what circumstances.

Dear diary,

I have decided to teach Ifrit-egi how to Dragon Kick.

But it has no legs. Tell you what, I'll let you teach Selene how to dragon kick.

Is it actually significantly more than a 10% damage reduction? I'm curious.

How could reducing something by 10% have more than a 10% effect on it? :(

And don't say "magic!" because that would be a joke and I don't like jokes

Non-linear scaling, if that's a serious question. Also would depend on how multiple effects stack on whether an extra 10% reduction does anything differently.

Anyway, I could go through all my parses to get a more exact number but it looked to be around there. The bigger issue is that it means more breathing room and better syncing up with heal values.

Yes, I am asking if it reduces the turn 13 AoE damage by more than 10%.

w/e 10% int reduction in t13 amounts to in damage. As scy said, would have to check the actual parse/dmg out but it's significant enough if guides have hp requirements if you have dk and storms path

I'm not super great with numbers, but that 10% scales pretty well if the boss has a decent int stat. With the amount of damage it pumps out I wouldn't be too surprised if it cut the damage of the attack by ten percent. That's a pretty significant effect, to be sure. A couple hundred damage prevented can be pretty huge.
