Is Final Fantasy a rpg series anymore?
People have been saying this for two decades lol
Is Final Fantasy a rpg series anymore?
Big budget does not mean the game will play better. I've found that for the most part AA budget games tend to be more engaging and fun then AAA budget games. Probably has something to do with vision and having a passion to make that vision a reality.Like I said before, it's not the same thing.
Doesn't have the same budget, narrativelly does different things, not all turn based battle systems are the same, etc.
I think that a lot of games where bosses\enemies do area of effect attacks you have some sort of telling on where their attack is gonna land so you can avoid them...The ground lights up to show where powerful attacks will land, you have a few seconds to move to safety. Trials of Mana did this too, I think.
He also said with similar budget to the main entry.uh
Octopath Traveler? Bravely Default? Live A Live? Those do exist
I agree. But still, I would like a FF game with FF XVI graphics(or close enough) that was true to its roots.Big budget does not mean the game will play better. It's because the cutscenes in that games contained kingdom hearts level fanfiction changes to the original plot and they had to milk a 5 hours section into a 40 hours game.11+ hours of cinematics? Even if that's on top of the 35 hour playtime that seems excessive. I know modern ff has tons of cut scenes but that was one of my bigger complaints about ff7 remake.
After about 2/3s of that game I was getting pretty bored with them.
The closest you are gonna get is probably Dragon Quest. The old RPG style has long set sail. Action games have made sure of that. The popularity of action combat is simply too strong to ignore.I agree. But still, I would like a FF game with FF XVI graphics(or close enough) that was true to its roots.
But alas, probably a fool's dream at this point.

No offense but all these games you named are basically indies in production values.
35 hour mainstory sounds...short?
Nah, that's on par with classic FF. It's a good length and the story seems like it will be the best one since FFX.35 hour mainstory sounds...short?
Pretty average. Though if you came from say Xenoblade then yeah it'll feel pretty short.35 hour mainstory sounds...short?
Eh, that's not exactly true. There are plenty of games finding success, big success, being turn based, like Fire Emblem and Persona, without having nowhere near the brand name that FF has. Devs ignore the power of a good battle system has, specially in this day and age that gaming is more popular than ever. The closest you are gonna get is probably Dragon Quest. I can't think of a single game that NEEDS more than that. Most games that are longer do so through repetitive quests and trophy tasks masquerading as gameplay. I give up on most super long games at the 45-50 hour mark.35 hour mainstory sounds...short?
And yet FE Three Houses sold more than 4 million units, and that data is more than a year old.The reason you aren’t gonna get turn based games with this budget is the same reason midnight suns failed. The audience isn’t there for it
They didn't even tried with ff7, and instead we had that milking operation with an hybrid combat system that i hated. The reason you aren’t gonna get turn based games with this budget is the same reason midnight suns failed. The audience isn’t there for it
Pokémon is popular because of the brand, the games objectively suck.Oh yeah, because people simply hate DQ, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Persona, etc, and they sell soooo very little.
Thank god! lolKoji Fox told him that while the game was written in Japanese by a Japanese author, he then translated it into English
It's not because of the turn based battles. Moreso it's yet again another dating sim. Especially with the High School environment. And yet FE Three Houses sold more than 4 million units, and that data is more than a year old.

3.82 Million, and the data isn't renewed because nobody is gonna buy it anymore. And yet FE Three Houses sold more than 4 million units, and that data is more than a year old.
Fuck you and your 11+ hours of cinematics. Who wants this? Like folks can't both malign narrative heavy affairs from the "big studios" and then be okay with being sitting on your hands for 11 hours of non-interactivity. That's absurd and I sure as shit hope not accurate.
oh no 11 hours of cinematics out of a 35 hour game.... the horror....you'll be watching cutscenes for a fraction of the time you're actually playing the game...

One man's meat is another man's poison. I'm not a huge cinematics fan anyways, but there is no way i'm watching more than 11 hours in a GAME, no matter how big it is.oh no 11 hours of cinematics out of a 35 hour game.... the horror....you'll be watching cutscenes for a fraction of the time you're actually playing the game...
"CINEMATIC STRIKE!!"
Cinematic experience is confirmed!
Looks good, just hope combat is not overly simplistic.

I am just going to be blunt; what, the, Fuck, YoshiP
When has JRPG, ever, been a derogatory term when aimed at the japanese developer community around 2005ish?! I have some ideas but these kneejerk assumptions are immediately rebuffed with frank ideas of you reap what you sow.
Just this one boss fight puts the set pieces in God of War Ragnarock to shame. Not to forget Ragnarock itself which was a huge letdown."the game looks bad"

After XV, I want this to be as far from open-world as possible.so the combat looks amazing but like in the previews is said , there is very little option when it comes to exploration although they hope it was only in the area of the demo so they dont reveal to much
i really hope that is the case , as good as the combat is i dont want to just traverse a corridor from one boss to another
i dont think rpgs should be about as linear as Crash Bandicoot either... they're RPGsAfter XV, I want this to be as far from open-world as possible.
Maybe it's just me, but I have always seen and moved fina fantasy because it's a game that I think keeps re-inventing itself. It's sad that FF has largely walked away from it's roots, but if it manages to be a great game on it's own right, I'll be there.
But honestly, I wish that Square made a sub-series that would contain the games true to the franchise's roots and had a similar budget.
