The OP and ED are both awesome.

Doesn't feel like a series reboot cause of the way they just expect you to know things and characters without introductions and such. I'm hoping the Isaac stuff doesn't split this series off again making it the 3rd variation. I haven't read the manga and hope this series delivers a pretty faithful conversion so I don't have to :p

I really enjoyed that episode. But they sure do assume you have watched FMA before. I guess the next episode will be for newcomers...
More likely they assumed you've read the manga before, knowing Japan.

hmm...I don't really enjoy the OP at all, could be my wary against YUI......

Anyway awesome episode, Keiji fujiwara really play huges role awesomely :D
Was I not the only one who thought when Armstrong activated his alchemy, that sound it makes reminds me of the proton pack.

You can't expect everyone to spoiler mark their impressions, this is a discussion thread after all.

I'm not saying you shouldn't post stuff like "WTF THIS EPISODE FUCKING SUCKS", but that if you are gonna talk about specific plot details you should at least put the black bar over them.

But it's ducky's thread and he rules here.

Really did enjoy it. Was the Ice Alchemist in anything else though, I don't remember him? Even some obscure flashback maybe?

Eh, I thought the first ep was all over the place. Are we supposed to completely forget about the first movie and series while watching this? Or only from a certain point?

Go in clean, its a totally different story that has a few of the same events early on.

Yeah, they're starting over.

Wait, so uh what happened to the original story line? Where Ed and Al were trapped in different "worlds". Did i miss something there?

The first Anime's storyline has nothing to do with the new one. Consider it a reboot.

It was resolved in the movie.

Ed went back through a two-way gate, chasing after a villain, after the fight Ed went back to Germany to close the gate off, while Al was supposed to stay and destroy the gate on his side. In the end, Al snuck through the gate and both of them ended up in the real world. Movie ended with them looking into researchers of the atom bomb to close the gate since alchemy didn't work for them any more on this side.

I caved in.

That was an amazing first episode. So quickly paced, and I love how it doesn't look like they were cheap with the budget. Hopefully it continues to be so high-quality animation-wise throughout the series.

I'm watching this now and HOT DAMN the animation looks so damn clean.

The OP is nice also, will comment more upon finishing. :D

yeah, that was a great first episode. I'm glad they didn't start it the same way they did last time... though I loved the first series, watching new stuff is preferable :)

Enk

makes good threads.
Really liked the first episode. The new music score sounds ok so far, but I hope they have some stuff in the coming eps that competes with score from the original series. Can't wait to see what they do with the backstory in the next episode.

At long last, after months of grueling agony watching the shit that was Gundam 00, Fullmetal Alchemist returns to make me eagerly anticipate Sunday.

The first episode was simply amazing. It made me happy just to see all the characters back after all these years.

Although, I dunno if I'll get used to an episode starting without Al reciting "To obtain, something of equal value must be lost"

It might still happen when they start doing the origin story, which I think is starting next week.

Maybe it's not up yet? OP says they won't be streaming it till a couple of days after the Japan/Supanova: Brisbane simulcast. I'm guessing they'll start streaming around the same time the JP & US streams go live, around the 9th.

Was this the only episode involving new characters? I didn't like it that much as it did seem all over the place. I thought they'd start again from scratch but they seemed to just assume we'd seen the old show or manga before. I've seen the old anime, but still wanted it to be fresh so I could sort of forget the other series and just take this one as a standalone.

I'm fine with all the voices but Mustang's. His seems really different. Might be because I haven't heard the old Japanese Mustang in a while. Saw the dub only last year and his voice is still in my head.

Yeah, I almost don't wanna watch after this first ep. What "reboot" has ever been anywhere as good as the original?

A reboot that follows the far better and completely different original manga created by the original author who knows what theyre doing with all the characters, their development, the true villains and origins and many more original characters that the 1st anime adaption never touched on because it charged ahead and...

Actually, you know what. Fuck it. I am so sick of people on GAF not even reading the first page of a topic before bounding in with their irrelevant knowledgeless opinion its not even funny.

not really a reboot when they are going to use the original story this time and not make it up.

I tend to try to ignore them, outside of obvious stupidity. If they don't want to watch it then fine by me.

Hey it's Cloudy, so if he doesn't want to watch it, we might actually be spared from many painful posts in future. I'm all for it! :)

Yeah that was strange. Especially how they were walking a strange line between characters knowing each other and not knowing each other.

Too bad in terms of what actually came first, this storyline is the original. If anything is a reboot, it's the first anime series :lol

So sad so many people don't even know the real FMA to be whining here.

I've been re-reading the manga and there were so many details I've missed the first time around. I also realized I'm missing V. 11 in my collection, need to rectify that >.>

He is different. Haven't watched it yet, but I can't imagine Shinichiro Miki's voice coming out of Mustang's mouth :\

Wow, it was very epic first episode. As a fan of 1st FMA anime, this didn't disappoint.

It's nice to see Hughs and Armstrong again.

FMA is BACK!

Aren't most reboots as good, if not better, than the original? :lol

"The manga and first anime diverge around the halfway point of the first anime, which is around Chapter 20-ish of the manga"

If this is true...that I am in for a ride. =)

Just saw the episode, it was fantastic and I love the OP & ED. The animation is so fluid and I love that it's in HD. :D

It's funny but after being used to Roy's old voice, I'm actually a fan of the new voice, though he does seem to sound younger than Ed. Strangely, whenever I would read the manga, I always would imagine Roy's voice to be a bit more soft-spoken but have a lot of strength behind it.

And seeing Hughes again was awesome. Loved his greeting to Roy and the Elrics.

Can't wait to see the next episode.

slayn

needs to show more effort.
I was originally going to avoid this thinking it would feel to repetitive because I had already seen the first anime but I ended up liking it a lot.

My enjoyment of it will probably stem mostly from what is new vs what is the same/similar to things that I already saw in the first anime.

I didn't really care for the Issac storyline for the first episode, as I was looking more for a "faithful" manga anime adaption. But seeing some of the replies in this topic from people who don't want to read the manga, who don't know the differences between the manga and the first anime, and/or are writing the series off simply because it's a reboot, I think this was a good route to go.

Plus, they didn't really do anything this episode to mess up future "manga" storylines, in fact some of the things Issac did and caused actually hint and may possibly add to future manga storyline events. But I'm not saying anymore about that, as don't want to get "duck roasted".
