This is probably one of the best Q interviews I've heard. He's really getting in depth with the album, and Ab-Soul being the only one in the TDE camp that knew about his Pill addiction. GREAT interview.

He released a fantastic project with HnC (it had it's problems sure but I still think it's parts make it the best TDE project). moooose was on the money when he said this whole project is just gangsta q when we should be getting swag rap q, gangsta rap, emotional tears in the rain rap like HnC
Is oxymoron a bad album? no i don't think so. it might even be good. undecided on that at the moment. certainly not a great one.
it starts off with an amazing opener in gangsta. this and break the bank can be top 5 for him possibly. esch loves it too. he's just hating on it because q raps on it. if it was kendrick track the eschscale would read
for those two tracks
then it's just wack boring stuff until studio. yeah i said studio. it sounded corny as hell in the snippet but i see what he's doing here. it's very money clothes hoes. i like it. and hell of a night straight to man of the year is alright too. grooveline as well minus suga free
the purge? lmao get the fuck off this album. prescription/oxymoron is nice. it goes from sacrilegious to tookie know. i love this one, especially the second half (much like maad city the second half of track is better)
then i youtube californication with asap rocky. another boring ass track. shit's 20 minutes long. why on earth are this and hoover street like 15 minutes combined. if they were each 3:30 it would make this album better (also getting the former song on the album would be nice)
give us druggies with hoes 3.
anyways......... sanctified is almost amazing. needs to keep it's momentum. it dies right after kanye's verse.
Mastermind is sounding good but Ross' verses are just..there. I'm in for the features and production. I forgot Sanctified was even a Rick Ross joint. Same goes for Devil is a Lie.

Oxymoron, as an album, is disappointing enough to make me not want to revisit even the good tracks. i don't know why I feel that way, but i do.

I think I got ahead of myself with Mastermind. Album isn't bad at all but I can see myself completely forgetting about it by next week.
It will go the way of all Ross albums, the bangers will be saved and put in party and workout playlists and the rest will be automatically ignored.
So thats what that genre was called. I've always liked that sound and googling spanish guitar music wasn't getting me good results.
Haven't seen 12 years yet. My list. Pacific Rim would be gone, but I haven't seen enough.
I think Q kinda goes in on What They Want. Great delivery, idk.

Sanctified is great. People are overrating the Ye verse a bit but the beat and they way they put together the song is great. One of the few instances in well, ever that Kanye put in logical transitions in his music instead of the bad abrupt beat changes that plague his music. The sample use and bells and whistles for the beat are tasteful as well.

awno if I like this departure for him. I wouldn't call it straight-up bad, but knowing he can throw out more twisting stuff like on Acid Rap and innanetape this feels less worthwhile.
actually my main problem is the beat, the bass and main synth line are booooring as hell, sound like an imitation of the style vic and smoko seem to be going for here. that synth melody is way overfamiliar. Which is odd become on top of all that substandard stuff therere weird accents I really like

Ended up listening to mastermind again while I was smoking. Ross won. The album is great. It sounds familiar but different enough to actually be an interesting rick ross project

if it isn't a Mutt rip (an album put together from various sources at random rip speeds) then it is going to be a transcode of the original mutt rip (the 320 you likely have in your possession). it's gunna sound pretty bad.

I really don't think that concept applies today for established artists, at least in rap. People know what they're going to get with Ross, and the lack of a single has killed his buzz. His "fanbase" tends to waver from trap rapper to trap rapper; Yo Gotti and Ace Hood sold over 100k albums iirc. I expect Ross to be on a diminishing returns trajectory for the rest of his career, barring some huge hit.
The people who buy trap albums aren't really asking if "artist x" has a good album, they're basing purchase decisions solely off the street, club, and radio singles. Ross hasn't delivered on any of those.
