Show Arya, and the audience, that not all Lannister foot soldiers are inhumane stormtroopers they have often been made out to be.

Yeah. There were multiple shots of her analyzing their setup and looking for where their weapons were - like she was calculating how many of them she could kill before they could reach their swords. But once she engaged them in conversation, she changed her mind.

Pretty good episode, I'm glad that plotlines are finally converging and it's becoming a bit more condensed.

Also, with Ed Sheeran, I now demand that Thom Yorke appear as a hippy priest.

I'm glad I have no idea who Ed Sheeran is, as it apparently ruins the episode.

I think the scene helped us see that Arya isn't completely gone, that she can still have empathy, even when it's for her "enemies".
Well we still don't know for sure if they make it out their encounter with Arya alive. :)

People are crazy, Ed Sheeran did nothing worthy of ruining the episode.

I wonder what the fuck Eurone Greyjoy is going to get for Cersei. The only thing I can think of is bringing her the head of one of her enemies or something.

My immediate thought was to kidnap Tyrion, but I really have no idea

I can't imagine a scenario where she would ever side with Cersei, but she's clearly not content with letting Jon take the lead.

Edit: Oh you probably mean indirectly help her I gotcha lol

That would be sooo out of character.

Cersei made her life a living hell, why would she join up with her?

Yeah I mean more indirectly lol....BUT I do think she'll see it benefits her and allow it to happen...whatever it is. Of course Littlefinger will encourage it....

At worst, she is going to accidentally undermine Jon's authority by doing something contrary to his plans.

She probably wont, because she says in the very same episode that Jon makes a good ruler. The point is that she's not going to be just a pretty face doing nothing. She literally saved Jon's ass (and the entire story book) by calling the Knights of Vale. She's not an inexperienced idiot schoolgirl she was in the first season.

Why are the maesters hiding so much stuff on the long night?

Sounds like they're just being cunts who value their rules over believing Sam. And even the one that maybe believes him, think it will all be fine because of The Wall, so fuck off lil' plebeian, go weight some more of my shit.

HBO Now worked without a hitch.

Damn they got good at making this show. Even the 'previously on' old footage edited now made it look fresh again.

Costume design👌
Returning faces👌

All the different view points end on great notes. Faith restored on expecting some dope battles.

He didn't do anything, it just broke the immersion having him suddenly there. At least for me.

Like I said earlier in the thread, to me it's no different than when Ian McShane showed up, or other actors that I recognize from other shows. For a split second he was the singer and the next he was a Lannister soldier in Westeros.

Pretty sure he was in the "Tully Cake" Arya made for Walder at the end of last season.

That cake was made from Walder's sons. The Tullys are Arya's relations on her mother's side.

Show Arya, and the audience, that not all Lannister foot soldiers are inhumane stormtroopers they have often been made out to be.

Fair point. I mean, season 7 might be a bit late to suddenly, not to mention briefly, go for that angle. Furthermore, it's a fact that should go without saying, so you could argue that it's a bit insulting to the audience's intelligence. So I'm still going to go with "gratuitious celebrity cameo," but at least I see the intent now.

Overall, this was a very solid "here's where everyone is now" episode.

Hopefully Littlefinger gets out of the picture soon.

No time for scheming and backstabbing when the army of the dead is marching on you.

While I can see how that would've played well in this season, we also needed a nice hook for her, and it was pretty balling seeing her again in Westeros.

Yeah, plus that open was fantastic and especially works because we know she's there. And they disguised it like it could have been a flashback.

I think they successfully got two glorious moments out of it.

She was there to murder them, but as soon as she started talking to them, she realized that they might be Lannister's but they weren't bad guys. They were there because they had to be, not because they wanted, and they didn't even give a shit for the faction they were fighting for.

I think the scene helped us see that Arya isn't completely gone, that she can still have empathy, even when it's for her "enemies".

Yeah.

Regardless of the positions, the main issue here is how Jon makes decisions.

That should not have been the first time his close advisors heard of his plans. If he is going to keep Sansa around and in his confidence, he needs to do a much better job handling her.

This is a good point. A discussion on something of this scale probably should have come up with his advisors prior to getting announced.

Oscan someone refresh my memory on how Arya is now able to do her face thing without consequence?

Because a lot of the rules of the faceless were basically bullshit and it turns out they're just killers for hire with a little bit of magic and she's Arya Fucking Stark.

I'm glad they finally decided to humanize some of the normal soldiers in that Ed Sheeran scene.

Pretty much the entire show has shown nothing but rapists and sadists as soldiers, but most of them are good people who just want to go home.

Yeah, plus some other good things about him.

She also took several digs at Littlefinger.

Bummer to see Jorah so far gone, I actually thought he would find a cure but it really doesn't seem he can come back from that...

Feels like the showrunners didn't know exactly what to do with Arya in Braavos, decided "fuck it, just send her home and have her know what do". Because Braavos was some boring ass shit.

Only thing I'm really not feeling is the whole Sansa vs Jon storyline. We wait all these years to get some Starks back together and the first thing they do is start fighting.

Disappointing episode, will consider not staying up anymore and just watching the rest of the season the morning after. The beginning was good but I lost interest during the 20 minute poop montage and the hound scene.

I already fear that the season is going to end with a shot of Daenerys going into battle, and all the 7 episodes are going to build into that moment. I'm tired her closing every episode and every season, implying that she is going to do something. There should have been a battle at the castle since the Lannisters leaving it unprotected and ready to be taken sounds like a stupid plot hole.

I thought the same thing about that scene.

It was nice to see soldiers who weren't complete assholes for once.

At least he's at the right place. I hope they're actually trying to help and not just studying it as it spreads.
