I don't completely disagree, I don't know it's a tough subject. Either way, I personally don't care but like I said many people do and it just makes things weird.

I really feel bad for those that have to watch it with others that are uncomfortable with it then. That always makes things awkward and then really tends to paint those scenes weirdly in your mind, I think. It's like introducing anything to someone that normally doesn't like that sort of thing or has a moral problem about it. You're going to be hyper sensitive, analyzing every bit of it, and hyper aware of the amount of time spent on it. It just ruins the thing for that person. That's why I'm glad it's just me and my wife that watch it, and she has absolutely not problem with sex/nudity and I don't either.

I do agree that it's being used as currency (mostly) in the show, and also to express certain relationships, but I still think some of them cross the line of over the top or pushing it or a tad pointless or could have easily been implied rather than explicitly done and so on.

But really, that's an artistic choice on whether to imply something or explicitly do it. If you think it was over the top or disgusting or something, then maybe that was part of the point in really putting the contrast between that world and the world we typically think of when we think of fantasy (or even just a typical TV show or movie).

2 seasons in and people are still complaining about the nudity. Sometimes I wonder what stories people are reading. The book works through various narrators, the TV show follows everyone so seeing people fuck is going to happen.

Well, quite. They could imply the violence, but chose to show it. While there have been some wince enduing acts shown, none of the violent scenes have been for titillation. You could argue that there was no need to show a boy getting his impaled in the throat. But it all fits into the world, so is completely fitting to be included. As with the rather colourful language.

It's just telling that some are uncomfortable with the boobs, and not the gore.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Don't have any problems with most of it when it's just me and some good friends, but other people I've watched it with, knowing how they fell about it, just makes it really awkward.

Especially when it's dead quiet and all you hear is dick slurping.

That wasn't even as bad as the 7 minute finger bang scene. Whenever the awkward silence happens I just try to break it by talking about the characters motivations and backstory from the books.

I just saw Natalie Dormer (Margaery) in Captain America. There is something about her, it's not even looks, just the way she speaks and moves.

I swear to god everytime I see Lord Balon Greyjoy I think of Jason Isaacs. They look so similar it is ridiculous.

Also they are doing certain characters much much better than in the books. Viserys and Theon are much better than their book counterparts.

I can 100% agree that some of the sex scenes waste time that could be better spent on more interesting storylines. The problem is that those sex scenes are wasting maybe 5% of a given episode's potential, but have dominated 70% of the conversation in the last two weeks.

That's true and I found nothing out of place with the scenes this week.

However, I disagree this is an American phenom. HBO shows have sex in them because Americans expect it. Heck regular station have sex because of it. So rather than basing the objections on a shallow knee jerk response that's not true I wish others would listen to what the actual objections are.

It's been repeated over and over why the scenes are not liked and not what's in the scene explicitly. In that sense it's not much different than other scenes/characters discussed.

I know that's the only time I'll bring it up at least.

When people say that buy putting too much sex in, it's "limiting" the audience, I think of three things:

1) maybe they shouldn't watch with their parents - you wouldn't watch Skinemax or porn with your parents, would you? If you want to watch fantasy with your parents, stick with Xena

2) this is probably their first HBO series - every series has a sex scene or three every episode and every one I enjoyed had contexual plot developments or story background during a sex scene - see Al getting a blowjob and telling his life story in Deadwood

3) they want this to be a bigger franchise (action figures, Fox Kids cartoon, coloring books) but obviously haven't read the books.

Or maybe they just don't want it used as a crutch every time the writers need to either repeat or dump a bunch of background info. This season has certainly been better though than season 1 so far though. We'll see if they can keep it up.

Speaking of Deadwood, I remember now that people said the show had too much swearing and some people thought it was juvenile and useless. I could easily say that the swears were there to try and "mature" up the story, as if the extremely dense prose and adult themes like colonial integration and territorial governments wasn't enough to turn the kids away.

I would probably also assume that Deadwood was shoehorned because of "it's genre". People treated it like a Western and expected singing cowboys and bloodless gun fights with the occasionally "dern" or "sumbitch" thrown in. But it wasn't, much like how this show is very low fantasy.

Better sex than two characters staring at each other and talking, or the cliched "walking tour info drop".

One of the best scenes in television history.

Whoa whoa whoa...you gotta stagecoach to catch or something? Slow. The fuck. Up.

Or a combination thereof. I can understand the 'watch with your parents' thing I guess, i wouldnt have wanted to when i was young and living at home. but then just don't watch it with them. It's just not that sort of show.

I guess I'm just surprised people didn't seem to know what they were getting into considering it was so prevalent in the story. As I've been saying, you have to expect things to change for an adaptation, and it has. But there was always the chance it wasn't going to go away. One of the reasons it has to be HBO.

And hey, HBO made some concessions. At least it's not all 14 and 16 year olds. Lol

No that was because they had to wait for the season to be over, even though they wanted to cancel it after the season 2 premiere where the explanation for everything was the dumbest thing ever aired.

Sometimes I'll just be walking around and I'll think about circus bears in the trenches and I'll laugh all over again.

I could actually see my family making me watch it with them as a teenager. My mom was very against anything rated R, though my stepfather thought it was funny to force me to watch violent movies. They were very against me taping something while they watched something else, because they frankly didn't trust me. I never caused trouble, but they didn't trust me to judge my own maturity.

But I was also in a much different household than many people.

:( Not cool.

Are you talking about (Carnivale season 2)
the nuke test explosion? because that was basically telegraphed at the very beginning of the show when Samson was talking about a false sun over Trinity...that was obviously going to be where the show was headed, I thought that scene was great

I was thinking of the flashback about the circus in like World War I or whatever.

How is a silence while watching a show awkward? Do you have friends/family that talk during the whole fucking thing and then stop during the sex scene or something? Tell them to shut the hell up for the rest of the show then! I'd be pissed if I had to watch this show with people that made even a peep. Seems to me like someone trying to talk over a sex scene about some motivations and stuff would be making things way more awkward. By doing that you're basically calling attention to you feeling awkward about the whole situation.

Rewatching the latest ep, I really don't like "Yara". I guess the namechange is appropriate because she's very little like Asha. :p

I really like the actress, I just wish she'd lighten up a bit. Some lines, especially the Seabitch one, could have worked a lot better with a smirk/sarcasm.

Agreed. She had that smirk and playfulness down pat in ep12, don't know where it went for ep13 though. Wonder if the change in directors had something to do with it?

See? Natalie Dormer duckface in pics confirmed.

I think she's still got that sarcasm, but she's also disappointed in Theon and isn't very happy where things are going from here. In the book she's more cocksure and dismissive of him, but in the series it makes you feel like he could actually be a threat to her.

Another is joining the watch...

Night gathers, and now my watch begins.

Honestly, when they revealed Brienne in the show, I saw some potential there. She isn't 'hot' or whatever, but she isn't exactly ugly. It's her height that would put me off.

Gives me the idea of a parody mashup of ASOIAF and Watch the Throne.
