Are there actually people who watch the show because of the sexual content?

There are definitely people who do not watch the show because of it.

Yes....childrennn?

I can't imagine any adult saying "Too much boobs!"

Sure, I think its excessive, but I don't think any is quitting the show over it.

Loooool at the SNL skit being true to life.

She looks like she broke her nose at some point in her life in that photo. I always kind of pictured Shireen as being a bit older (say, Arya's age) although I can't recall what her age actually was. I have a feeling they won't go overboard with the greyscale thing and rather just make her scarred a bit.

I know one person who quit over it. And I know of people who won't give the show a chance because of it.

I'm not a child, and I say "too much" (but I'm not quitting)

I can't imagine anyone watching the show because there is that kind of content. And I can't imagine anyone who would quit watching the show if they stopped having such content. So to me, it just seems like it's hurting viewer numbers.

I knew there must have been some deal about the ridiculous nudity lol. I wish they'd just get better actresses to be nude; the foreign one with Bronn sounded so cheesy lol

The chick that was with Pycelle and later gets beaten by Ros is also a porn star.

Wow, they seriously couldn't find waitresses who were trying to get their foot in the door? I can imagine the meeting, "we need porn stars - as many as possible!".

EDIT: OH MY GOD:

200px-Maisie_Dee.jpg

She must have beaten the poor girl in the face IRL as well.

Is this her?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=-AA_7oahNnQ

They should let Shireen sing [series spoiler]
about how her dad ignores her and she has to live with a psycho clown.
This is a good casting choice.

I would say so, it looks just like her. I wonder if she'll get a bit more of a part in this.

Would be interesting to see if HBO has some (speculative) figures on the 'perv market'.

chart_presentation.jpg

And here we have projections for what would happen to ratings if Ros were to die.

They wouldn't worry about that - all the pervs pirate it.

I feel like all premium cable channels push for nudity in their shows. It's one of the main selling points over basic cable

Yep. I think GoT wouldn't get so many complaints if the nudity wasn't so one-sided. It definitely comes off as cheesy bro shit to me, unlike something like Spartacus where there is just tons of nudity featuring actors of both genders all the damn time.

They look so young here, all of them. This was only a short while before s2 was filmed I believe. I think they could have made them all look younger if they wanted

Dude I loved Hairy Podder. Ron looked so young in those days.

Hah, a girl introduced me to X-Art. The women are unreal. Not enough pooping on the chest for your preferences? ;)

The guy who owns X-Art lives near me. He has an insane beach house and a garage full of Ferraris. So I guess plenty of people don't find that style of porn to be too boring or delicate.

It's interesting because with all of the various levels if complaining, no one has actually admitted that they are quitting the show. I want to hear from one of them, but they don't exist on this forum I think.

The show doesn't suck so why would people quit? Thats like people saying they're done with THe Walking Dead. I don't think they exist.

I'm only curious because the complaints are so acidic, and the only logical thing would be to cut your losses and abandon it, but they won't. They get some perverse masochistic pleasure from not enjoying the show. Like I said, it's all very interesting.

GAF is one of the more... um... openly sexual (?) places I've seen on the internet. I don't know if the posters are as open about it offline as they are online. Here you have way more people defending the scenes than against it.

Of the three people I know offline who watch, one of them quit in the first season. The other two are still watching though.

As for me, I do not enjoy the scenes. They make me very uncomfortable. But I don't quit because that's not all that the show is. I dislike certain aspects of the show, but I like other things that keep me watching. I "deal with it".

Larry Williams was on the Podcast Of Ice and Fire this week and said he's not really looking forward to S3, and that so far the season hasn't met his expectations. I kind of wonder if viewers will start tuning out as the show piles more and more (underdeveloped) new characters on top of the existing ones. Sort of like how Lost got so large/complicated many people just began tuning out in later seasons.

Different strokes for different folks and all, but wow I envy your internet navigation skills if GAF is the most risque place you've managed to wander in to. This is probably one of the clearest forums I've ever seen.

Anyway, I know a guy who doesn't follow the plot at all (he thought Robb was the Mad King's son and didn't understand why Dany and Viserys even thought they had a claim to the throne until I corrected him and explained it) but he loves the show anyway because of hot girls and sword fights. So yeah, the perv audience is out there.

There are are least two Gaffers who have "quit" GoT..........yet come back every week :lol

If you're gonna quit, have some balls and go through with it. Otherwise, shut the hell up with incessant "I think I'm done" posts.

I'm certainly not gonna quit this show, but I've been kind of bored with it until last week's stellar episode. It's still more than entertaining enough to watch every week though.

Hell, I haven't quit Walking Dead yet.

Now Dexter on the other hand....fuck that. Though I heard I missed some comedy last season.

On NeoGAF, "I think I'm done" doesn't mean you're done watching/reading something: It means you're done pretending to be skeptical and going straight to outright bitching and derision.

I doubt any book reader that follows this thread will abandon the show simply because they clearly enjoy the story told within the source material else they wouldn't be here in the first place; to see it brought to life visually is impressive regardless of the shows quality as the story is so engaging. Having said that it's a good show [for the most part] as well it should be given the vast talent and budget they've acquired. There have been a few weaker episodes that have come as a result of poor direction, writing and problems adapting the source material but for the most part it's quality television.

You're mistaking criticizing the show for some weaker sections, and disliking specific episodes, as 'acidic' criticism that ensures the viewer cannot enjoy the show as a whole. Maybe I've missed it, and there has been doses of exaggerated criticism within this thread, but I don't believe what you're describing is a common reaction.

that woman's sole role was to get sexually humiliated and beaten right? I imagine this is easier to pitch to a porn actor.

Fuck me, now it's going to start up again.

Because now we have proof that the producers are insisting on more nudity.
Meh, sounds to me like it was already a nude scene, but the producer just told him he didn't need to hide the BEWBIES behind two water melons and bajingas with a leaf or something.

Off topic, but I've been curious for a while now.

What does the "news at 11" thing even mean? Is it an old GAF joke like the "I'm an expert" post?

You must be like 14 years old if you don't get that reference. Thanks for making the vast majority of GAF feel old.

It means that what I'm saying isn't new, bold or groundbreaking, but rather predictable. The news has always aired at 11, and sex always has sold.

Local American TV channels will frequently air short "tease" clips of stories the news stations will have later in the night.

"20-car pileup on the highway, the full story at 11."

I've seen some news stations air at 10, actually.

It's an old real life saying for "this is not news" or "so what else is new".

Edit - god damn I need to reply faster!

Network news promos come on during prime time with a quick blurb about what's going to be on that evening's news. Usually a vague or unhelpful or obvious single sentence, followed by "news at 11" or "tonight at 11".

Oh, thank you for the explanations everyone.

No, you should leave this thread if this is your intention.

Oh, I'm not going to spoil anything. No one should have this series spoiled! However, it's inevitable that it's going to happen for many fans. Best solution, short of internet abstinence, is to "Read a book, motherfucker".

I've seen some news stations air at 10, actually.

All the news stations air the news at 10 here, except for the Fox station, and that airs at 9 :p

Prime time for us is 7-10 so we stay locked in with the West Coast's airings of stuff (their 8-11).

I'm glad we have official confirmation that the SNL skit is actually what happens, any discussion regarding a deeper reasoning for the sex and nudity is just pointless now. It is what it is, they do it because they can and it's not going anywhere. Although I agree it wouldn't hurt the show if they were gone, I personally don't care and find it funny most of the time (just get the men naked too!).

EDIT:

Also a reminder that the S2 marathon starts tomorrow at 6pm ET on HBO Zone.

Please just do justice to [ACOK]
Qhorin. They got a great actor and everything and they end up butchering his story. Let him go out like a boss and please let him have some more important lines. House of Undying is whatever, just don't let it be cheesy. I'm going to be crying like a little girl if anything happens to Maester Luwin.
