Like clockwork in any game related thread you have first page posters just shit posting. It gets tiring having to wade through it all. I think the game looks great and will be even better when not viewed with shitty YouTube compression. If it wasn't a first party game you'd have less complaints about the look of it, and it happens regardless of whether it's MS, Sony, or Nintendo.

Tsushima had the same budget and that was before concord and fair games.

Different studios have different budgets it seems.

Am i supposed to be happy that concord got a 400 mil budget and yotei only 60? 60 were ok for the first game on a franchise on ps4 (and it still showed, other than art design it was the less advanced sony open world graphically), but after the tsushima success, using the same exact budget is retarded.

Sony hook as always been high budget single player games, not gaas turds, so i'm gonna call out their shift in priority.

I am a huge fan of the first game, and am theoretically excited for this one. I don't mind having a female lead and won't cancel the development team because 1 or 2 of them are blue haired anti-facists.....
but any time I watch footage of the game my mind always wanders. Like it isn't holding my attention, maybe because it just looks so similar to the first one. And I will definitely pay to play and beat more of that first game, but it really is not setting itself apart.
I guess it can't lose money since it seems like Sony limited their budget to almost nothing. But I think it will underperform compared to the first game.

The problem with Gaf is they don't realise developers don't give a fuck about their whining and bitching.
I'm glad this game has it's own stylised look. Don't want every game to look like UE5 core.
I'll wait for the end product. A game is more than just graphics. So far it looks like a good sequel.

Eh, textures were soup in GoT. It's art was great though. GoY just looks like PS4 pro title. It's an upgrade, but a generational upgrade? Nah

I wouldn't say it looks much better going from the footage we've seen thus far, whatever GI solution they are using is extremely lacklustre for 2025, plus the geometry looks near identicle to GoT. Going from the reactions ITT it seems most people are dissapointed with the visuals.

The draw distance alone makes it a huge upgrade over Tsushima. Tsushima had these huge open areas with that hard line where the grass and stuff disappeared, by far the biggest issue of that game's graphics. Here it not only has more detail, it goes on for much longer.

Not to mention that the game ran at 30fps on PS4 and PS4 Pro, this is 60fps, but of course people don't think about that. They see what they want to see.

Yea the draw distance is a nice improvement, but that's not what people expect from a generational upgrade considering the other issues, hence the reaction in the thread. If people saw what they wanted to see then GoY would have stunning visuals..but alas.

Perhaps some are just jumping on the bandwagon because of politics but others are genuinely dissapointed with the visuals, and have been long before the Charlie Kirk stuff. ChiefDada ChiefDada is even critical of the game, and if he isn't impressed with a Sony first party game you know you're in trouble :messenger_tongue:

I'm not buying this game. But it's a nice upgrade over the old game. Whether it does exactly what someone does or does not is irrelevant - it's an upgrade over the old game. People claiming it's not are just wrong.

You can make those jumps and still deliver next gen looking game (maybe not 1440p but with 1080p TAAU for sure). Texture quality doesn't require more power, just more memory - and they failed with that.

People saying it's not an upgrade are stupid, but the question is, is it an upgrade worthy of 5 years and an entirely new generation of hardware? I'm not so sure, but let's wait for release

It's not enough of an improvement to be considered a generational leap, especially since it's a first-party game. That's the whole point.

It would be ridiculous if it didn't have even the slightest improvement on a console with a GPU that's about five times more powerful.

What is a generational leap these days

five times more powerful is tiny compared to prior gens. We are in the era of diminishing returns.
 
I mean, the draw distance is very much improved, not doubt about it. But I am not a fan of the minimalist textures and generally minimalist assets.

I think Elden Ring looks much more impressive and varied graphically than Yotei. Elden ring has also impressive draw distance, combined with realistic textures and a polygon budget way higher like it's not even a contest.

Infamous Second Son is more impressive graphically than Yotei!

Is it some huge, jaw dropping step up? No, but what recent sequel has been? The only one that even comes to mind is Death Stranding 2? I never dug into comparisons, but I did hear people say that game looked amazing.

This seems like noticeable improvements for a studio that had the same budget and project timeline. Whether the game will be any good or not, I make no bets. But it looks like it will be pleasant to look at. I'll check it out on Steam when it eventually gets there.

AC Shadows is a huge, massive step up over the last gen ACs. Which is not the case at all for Yotei

By the way, a few years ago I pointed out the fact that single player games at Sony were not getting the budget increases they needed for next generation development. I posted Sony's own investor slides where they outlined all of this. I got pushback and denials from the same people you are arguing with today. And well, most who have already been banned and have since moved over to icon era. They maintained that the slides were wrong, and Sony was still heavily investing in single player games.

And now the same people are using the excuse that it's a low budget title for its garbage last gen graphics. The hypocrisy is what kills me. These people will make excuses, then make some more instead of just manning up and admitting that they got it wrong. That Sony did fuck up. That they missed all the signs and evidence. nah they chose to stay loyal, got banned and those lucky enough to be here continue to embarrass themselves today.
